Heartwarming Moments: Right after almost running her over, Ruby makes sure Weiss is okay, and upon hearing her declare today’sher birthday, Ruby runs back into her ship and offers her a slice of birthday cake. Weiss is described as struggling not to cry. However, this also overlaps with TearJerker, since it’s evident this is the nicest thing someone has done for her in quite some time.
Ruby in this story showcases the ability to dematerialize herself and others to carry them across narrow spaces and gaps. Volume 8 of the main show would reveal that this is exactly how her Semblance works.
The story has Bandits as humans mutated into Grimm, even morphing into Grimm amalgamations. Cut to Volume 8 much later, where we're introduced to the Hound. A Grimm that was once a Silver-eyed human and is capable of shapeshifting like said amalgamations.
Blake. She gets forced onto an island in the middle of nowhere on a Death World, and its made clear that all of this has taken a massive toll on her psyche.
Weiss. Poor girl loses her family, her home, and pretty much everythingon her birthday.
Willow, Weiss' mother, has had it really rough in life. Her father dies and her controlling husband is named successor to the company, she remains trapped in a controlling, abusive relationship with her only method of coping being drinking alcohol to the point of needing surgery to replace her liver, she loses everything and learns that her middle daughter is trapped on Pandora, and that's before getting into her strained relationships with the rest of her children because of her aforementioned alcoholism.
In her introduction chapter, Pyrrha is shown to have been surgically torn open and augmented against her will before being forced to fight in death tournaments to entertain the masses. All of it really messed her up, as despite outward appearances, she's constantly on the verge of having a nervous breakdown from the stress her life has caused her.
