YMMV / Bert Diaries

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The resident school bully Klimpen in the 90s' TV series is extremely popular with viewers as he has many of the funniest scenes in the show, no small part thanks to his actor Martin Lindqvist's impeccable comedic timing. His Iconic Outfit in the form of a spiky leather jacket with the word "BLÄ" ("bleh") written on the back also makes him instantly recognizable.
  • Funny Moments: At one point, Bert is hanging around outside the girls' locker room trying to sneak a peek of them undressing. One of the girls gets fed up and runs out, pulls out the strap of his gym shorts, looks down on his junk and yells, "HIYA! ANYONE HOME?" ("there was no one home. Charlie Tjenis got a shock and rolled up into a strawberry chord.") Bert flees pursued by raging laughter from all the girls, feeling sorry for himself because "they have no right to look at my intimate parts!"
  • Harsher in Hindsight: It's pretty easy when reading the books to draw the conlusion that Åke has some sort of mental illness (most likely trauma caused by his mother dying of cancer when he was 7, if the way he sometimes calls out for her when he is sad, drunk or sick is anything to by) as well as some undiagnosed disorder like ADHD. While the books or adaptations never go into any details of Åke's mental state as they are told from Bert's limited perspective, Åke's eccentric behaviour is almost always Played for Laughs, if not outright Gallows Humour at times. All of this becomes much, much less humorous following the death of his actor from the 90s' TV series who also suffered severe mental illness for decades before he passed away in 2021 from drug use complications.
