YMMV / Battle B-Daman

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Cain and his original B-Daman, Knight Cavalry.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The anime is big in New Zealand, according to Yamato's English voice actor, Brian Beacock.
  • Ho Yay: Joshua for Cain. He even was willing to throw himself off a cliff for him.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Enjyu, after his Freudian Excuse was revealed in a flashback (in both the anime and manga).
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Cornell is hated for his petty betrayal of Enjyu. It's quite telling that nobody shed a tear or felt any sympathy for him when Enjyu took his revenge and outright rooted for it.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Being the only Action Girl in the show, Liena fills this role.
  • Narm: On MULTIPLE occasions, there are plenty of situations where a loss could have easily been avoided if the player in question just dodged the killing shot in question. This especially gets bad later on when there's a special attack clash or a called out special attack, as there's PLENTY of time for the target player to get out of the way.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Proto-1 is the only B-Daman toy that is not used by the main character. All we see of it in the show is Battle Crow crushing it after defeating its owner, who is never shown. If you blinked, you might have missed it.
  • Superlative Dubbing: The English dub of the first season might be the most underrated English dubs. With some comedic script and superb voice acting, it makes you wish that the obscure studio behind it, Howling Cat Enterprises, continued dubbing more anime's. The same cannot be said however for the second season, Fire Spirits.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • After the reveal of Cain's betrayal, he destroys Cobalt Blade. This leaves Yamato crying out for the loss of his B-Daman.
    • Enjyu's backstory about his "friend's" betrayal is very chilling and sad for an otherwise lighthearted show.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The change in cast for the English Dub for the second season, Battle B-Daman: Fire Spirits has been universally panned by fans. Its main criticism goes towards the characters sounding nothing like they did in the first season (especially Yamato and Terry) as well as the laughably bad voice acting.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Grey's motivation for joining the Shadow Alliance because he wanted to save his sister, Liena had a lot of potential for his character. Unfortunately, it was quickly skimmed over and what makes this a bit more disappointing for fans is that Yamato was the one who set her free from being brainwashed, not Grey which made the stakes feel unimpressive.
