YMMV / Balto III: Wings of Change

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Much like Aleu before him, Kodi is either seen as a likeable and compelling main character, especially with him also serving as a Hero Antagonist, or nothing more than an immature and selfish brat.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Stella's song, "Come Fly With Me" certainly qualifies. Including sudden change in lighting and even background singers and dancers coming out of nowhere! Most of the songs are portrayed realistically (except Muru's in Wolf Quest, but he's a spirit so its justified), but hers... not so much...
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Despite Word of God saying they wanted Dusty and Ralph to be the Official Couple, most fans prefer to pair Dusty with Kodi instead.
  • Fetish Retardant: Most viewers are very uncomfortable with Stella’s overly sexual characteristics. The fact she is supposed to be a goose designed with a prominent bust and shapely hips contrasts with all the other characters who are mostly designed looking like their normal animal counterparts.
  • Ho Yay: Blink and you miss it shots in the third sequel suggest that Kodi has a thing for Kirby. Pretty one-sided, but still.
  • Popular with Furries: The film caught on a bit with dog furries.
  • The Scrappy: Stella isn't all that well liked. Doesn't help she has the only song in the series that counts as a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment. The fact that her character design is so sexually over-the-top doesn't help her case with the majority of the fandom either, at least in the mid-2000's when most of the fanbase was more conservative. Nowadays, she is considered hilarious and over-the-top, in the few fandom pockets that remain.
  • Sequelitis: The film has its fans but it's overall seen as the weakest installment in the Balto trilogy.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Dear God, the fight between those who pair Balto's son Kodi with Dusty (who already has a love interest, according to the director of the second sequel and to her interactions with Ralph) or with Kirby is still going on!
  • Squick: In Wings of Change, Stella's Tears of Remorse are YELLOW (as opposed to the other characters who cry blue tears), which somewhat resemble URINE.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The film seemed like it wanted to feature Kodi in a role akin to Aleu from the second film, with Balto's fear of letting him down and Kodi wanting to make his father proud, but this plotline is sidelined by the other subplots in the film and isn't fully explored.
