• Awesome Music:
  • "Pirate Island" is very impressive for a Game Boy Color game released quite late into the console's life. Listening to it feels like you're in for a really epic pirate adventure.
  • "Boss Fight" is a great high-energy track that makes impressive use of the sound hardware.
• Memetic Mutation: As The Omoriboy Chronicles was getting popular, a YTPMV of it set to "Pirate Island" was made and subsequently also got popular. Because of that, "Pirate Island" would start being remixed frequently by the YTPMV and SiIvaGunner communities (it helps that the composer Alberto Gonzolas is also responsible for two staples of YTPMV). It was also featured in item asylum.
• The Problem with Licensed Games: On one hand, the game looks and sounds nice and is perfectly playable, but the actual gameplay is rather mediocre. It's a shallow, extremely repetitive and slow-paced yet extremely short and easy platformer—you can complete the entire game in just a half hour. There isn't even a final boss for you to encounter.
