• Moment of Awesome:
  • Charles's blistering "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Mattie Fae after she throws one too many insults at Little Charles.
  • Johnna bashing Steve with a frying pan when he tries to molest Jean.
• Moral Event Horizon: Violet reveals that she knew which motel Beverly stayed at before he drowned himself, meaning she was in a position to save her husband but chose not to. This persuades Barbara to leave her mother behind for good.
• The Woobie: Even the most well adjusted characters, Johnna and Sheriff Gilbeau, have had to deal with loss and family dysfunction.
