YMMV / Angelina Ballerina

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
  • Designated Hero: Despite being the main protagonist, Angelina could be very nasty and horrible at times, sometimes even meaner than Penelope and Priscilla. This is especially if she is jealous. This was heavily toned down in The Next Steps.
  • Fridge Brilliance: In the book version of Angelina's Baby Sister, Polly sneezes several times and the grownups worry that she's catching a cold, but she's fine. Sneezing is indeed very common among newborns and isn't a sign of a cold, or even allergies.
  • Funny Moments:
    • In "The Rose Fairy Princess", Angelina is afraid to be in the school play, since she's going to be suspended by a single wire. She pretends to pass out, but gives the game away because she winked at Alice directly beforehand.
    • In "Angelina's Surprise", Angelina, who is jealous of the attention the Pinkpaws twins are getting for their newborn brother, lies that Mrs. Mouseling is pregnant. Later, Miss Lily tells Mrs. Mouseling that she shouldn't be carrying a heavy bag of groceries in her "condition".
Mrs. Mouseling: My condition? What is she talking about?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In "Angelina's Opera", Gracie and A.Z. are absent. This turned out to be the last episode, so they weren't in any others afterwards. What's even more harsher is that they had room for two other background characters dancing with the other main characters in the end scene, but not them.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Angelina's relationship with Miss Lilly is especially touching when you know that their respective voice actresses, Finty Williams and Judi Dench, are mother and daughter in real life.
  • I Am Not Shazam: The titular character's real name is "Angelina Mouseling", though many parents and non-fans refer to her as "Angelina Ballerina". (In Angelina and the Royal Wedding, she carries a suitcase with the initials "A.B.", which doesn't help.) The sequel series The Next Steps gets this wrong too, with the titular character calling herself "Angelina Ballerina" in the introduction to every episode. That said, in the episode "Angelina's New School," the other characters do refer to her correctly as "Angelina Mouseling." Some of the books that began releasing in or around 2020 also have other characters refer to her this way, as well as the books themselves doing so in the narration.
  • Periphery Demographic: The original show has a good sized following among furries and people who grew up watching it, but The Next Steps also has its fans.
  • Popular with Furries: The show's Periphery Demographic has a lot of furries in it. The original show and The Next Steps have been the Gateway Series for many newer furries.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks! : Many fans of the original series disapprove of The Next Steps, especially its art style.
  • Toy Ship: William and Angelina is seen as pretty cute to some fans, as are Angelina and Marco in The Next Steps.
  • Wangst: Angelina can often go into this in the books and 2001 series. Whenever faced with a dilemma, she would cry and moan a lot, which could lead to some viewers to think that either she might have some sort of emotional disorder or is just being plain melodramatic. Thankfully, this is toned down in The Next Steps.
