  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • Some Everything Everywhere All at Once fans have also expressed an interest in this show, since all of the movie's leading Asian actors play either major characters (Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan) or recurring roles (Stephanie Hsu and James Hong).
    • With Turning Red due to both works being Disney properties involving teens dealing with their Chinese heritage conflicting with their North American lifestyles with fantasy elements. Also, Rosalie Chiang and James Hong play characters in both works; Meilin Lee/Suzy Nakamura and Mr. Gao/Jade Emperor respectively.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • After several episodes of tension, Simon stands up for his wife against a rude restaurant manager and a principal implying she's a stereotypical Asian Education Mama.
    • Jin TP-ing the statue of Wei-Chen and inviting him to join in a selfie of their work. After keeping Wei-Chen at arm's length this is the first time Jin really bonds with him.
    • Before the final confrontation with Bull Demon, Jin has a dream on the "Beyond Repair" set and gets a pep talk from his parents.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • A number of audiences cried foul at Wei Chen's human identity implicitly being from mainland China rather than Taiwan. In addition to the obvious political implicationsnote , many people felt that removing Wei Chen's Taiwanese background ignored the substantial cultural differences between the two places, with these differences and American society's ignorance of them forming a key part of his dynamics with Jin and his white peers in the graphic novel. There was even a petition by Taiwanese fans to undo the alteration.
    • Some fans of the original graphic novel have criticized the show for being an Actionized Adaptation with more focus on martial arts and Chinese mythology when the original novel was much more introspective and had very little action.
