YMMV / America Says

Go To

  • Fandom Rivalry: With Family Feud, predictably. Feud fans tend to criticize this show for being a clear derivative with a nigh-Unwinnable Bonus Round, and its format seemingly going out of its way to encourage contestants to give increasingly stupid guesses until time runs out once they run out of ideas. Says fans see the changes as a fresh take on the survey format and find the silly guesses endearing. They also criticize Feud for increasingly going out of its way to be deliberately risqué, while naughty answers are almost completely unheard of on Says.
  • Funny Moments: This moment from The Ohio Alums vs The Firefighters. The prompt? "Be careful handling that (BLANK), it could poke your eye out!" The Firefighters state the P____ O____ S____ is a "piece of stick". When the Ohio Alums get a chance to steal points, they answer back with a "piece of sharp". Cue a "What did that person just say?!” look from John Michael Higgins and the team clapping along like it was a good answer.note
John: (after the Piece of Sharp answer) It’s gotta be up there.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Very few people find the Skip to be any kind of help in the already tough-as-nails Bonus Round, since it does absolutely nothing to help a team that’s stuck on an answer. Many have suggested replacing it with something that adds additional letters to any given answer to help nudge teams in the right direction when they’re stuck; while the Skip remained unchanged through five seasons of Says, the later GSN original Hey Yahoo! would implement the additional letter idea throughout its format.
  • Spiritual Successor: The 2023 GSN original Hey Yahoo!, with nearly identical mechanics and Tom Cavanagh as the host. Instead of guessing survey answers for points, here you guess popular searches on Yahoo! for dollars.
