YMMV / AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline

Go To

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: The show ends with the New Japan Cooperation Organization being fully established by the AFTE, Oceania and the FGE, but the "actual" Japanese government is under NAC control. Yet the Yatagarasu acknowledges that there are two governments. Even with Spears taken down for being a Rogue Soldier and forced NAC to make peace and withdraw their troops because of what he did, who's to say that someone worse can just turn the tensions and force both Japans to fight in order to determine which one is the legitimate government.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The biggest draw of the show is the all 2D Mecha animation, a vanishing rarity in the anime industry (and even they aren't usually beyond the occasional CGI shot, making it all the more special). It's also the first such show in 2D by Sunrise since Gundam Build Divers.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Did you really think Amou would have kicked the bucket that easily at the end of the first half? Not helping much is that the opening clearly shows him once again taking center stage.:
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?:
    • As noted under Crapsack World on the main page, Japan is conquered and divided in this world. Whether intended by the creators or not, the overall result is a frightening combo of a lot of Japan's right wing political bugaboos. Not just modern fears (Economic and population decline, immigration), but also the fears of the early Showa (That Japan would be Subjugated), Meiji (That Japan would fall to Western Colonization) and Tokugawa (Japan divided again into Warring states) eras! This has led a few to cast a bit of side-eye at the show, including being Banned in China as mentioned in Trivia.
    • The entire Enemy Mine situation, which pits Yatagarasu and the other three powers (the Oceanians, Chinese dominated Asians, and obviously Russian dominated third power) vs North America and a technically-still-there Japanese Government, has drawn criticism from conservative Japanese critics/viewers, claiming the show as "Anti-American/Japanese" (though mind that there are conservatives who also dislike America) while at the same time "Pro-Russian/Chinese". This is in spite of the aforementioned Banned in China situation and the Asian Free Trade Entente still being portrayed as Eviler than Thou than the other foreign nations (though this doesn't stop the main characters from siding with them regardless).
