- Angel/Devil Shipping: Ebumi x Hanadate is an oddly inverted or subverted version of this trope, depending on how you look at it. While Ebumi is technically the Angel, he is taller and more muscular than Hanadate, who is supposed to be the Devil. It should also be noted that it is Hanadate who is afraid of Ebumi. To top it off, Ebumi is the one who had No Sense of Personal Space around Hanadate at one point during their first match (which is the reason why Hanadate developed his fear of Ebumi in the first place). At this point, it is more accurate to call it Ascended Devil/Regular Devil Shipping.
- Audience-Alienating Premise: Not a lot of people are familiar with rugby in Japan (which was part of the reason why it got an anime adaptation— to raise interest in the sport), so it already doesn't have as much star power as other sports series. Add that to the fact that the boys aren't all conventionally attractive and the designs are very strange, and you've got yourself an isolated series.
- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Ebumi, the resident Crazy Is Cool Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
- Miyuki Atsushi is definitely another one.
- Zanba Ryūjin, the ace of Ryōin Academy Rugby Club. In spite of his intimidating appearance and incredible strength, he is also such an unbelievably Adorkable Big Eater outside of the field that one would have to see to believe it.
- The Kirishima brothers Sekito and Kokuto seem to be close to fully becoming this.
- Hachi, Ebumi, and Ise, which the show continues to show throughout the second half of the series.
- Estrogen Brigade: It's a shounen sports series. Despite the unconventional designs, you should know the formula by now.
- Ho Yay: All over the place!
- Ise's brother mockingly asks whether Ise and Hachi are a couple, asking what many in the audience are thinking.
- Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Ebumi and Sekizan.
- LGBT Fanbase: In general, the sport and cast of muscular guys appealed greatly to gay men, but Sekizan takes the cake for most. Some of the other characters also count.
- Love to Hate: Hanadate Mitsuo. In spite of being a rather unpleasant person, the sheer Catharsis Factor after Ebumi humiliated him and his subsequently developed fear of Ebumi really sat well for the viewers.
- Moe: Almost any character in the series could be considered as this, for different reasons.
- Iwaishimizu for being a Gentle Giant, a Shrinking Violet and his backstory.
- Kifune Isao, after his Day in the Limelight.
- Yumi-chan, tempered a bit when a few episodes previous revealed that she and Komori were infertile.
- Tough Act to Follow: Had the misfortune of airing in the fall of 2016 (read: alongside the Sleeper Hit Yuri!!! on Ice), which undoubtedly contributed to its obscurity, even though All Out!! had more episodes.
