YMMV / Afterlife SMP

• Epileptic Trees:
  • There are plenty of fan theories about how Empires SMP Season 1 and the Afterlife SMP are connected, especially since most of the Afterlife content creators are returning members of Empires (10/15 of them, to be exact).
    • One of them is in relation to the Church of Saint Pearl, which is built by Sausage and decorated with sunflowers. In Empires Season 1, Pearl was the Queen of Gilded Helianthia and burnt alongside her country as her life force was tied to it, while Sausage was helpless to stop his friend from dying. As a result, it's often theorized that the Church is named for Queen Pearl of Gilded Helianthia for this reason. It's later canonized, given Lord Sausage of Mythland and Sausage of Afterlife are stated to be the same guy.
    • Oli ultimately induced Canon Welding between Afterlife and Season 2, establishing his character to be the same in both series.
  • Another goes hand in hand with the "Roseblings", or the Empires dynamic that Gem and fWhip were twins. Fan theory holds that this carries across to their Afterlife counterparts, either with fWhip being raised by Pillagers to become one of them while Gem was raised by Villagers, or jokes about Gem having the Cain instinct as she instantly saw fWhip as a threat upon his arrival (in-universe, it would be because of their respective origins).
• Fanon: As with the fan theories listed under Epileptic Trees, it's a common interpretation that the Afterlife SMP takes place in the same continuity as Empires, in an After the End sort of situation, mainly due to the Church of Saint Pearl and its decorating scheme, and likely the fact Afterlife started just weeks after Empires ended on a meta level.
  • This is possibly Ascended Fanon as of Sausage's 12th episode, where he names the turkey in his shop "Sir Gobbles Gobblington".
    Sausage: And yes, they're a long-long descendant of my boy Sir Carlos of Mythland — that's right. Are we crossing realities? Maybe we are.
  • Confirmed to be Ascended Fanon with a heavy dose of I Knew It! in Oli's perspective of Season 2, where he sails west from a "Far Side" Island after falling from Heaven in a meeting with Pearl, in order to settle the lands of the season.
• Friendly Fandoms: With Empires SMP, due to creator overlap (read: 10/15 of the ALSMP cast are returning members of Empires Season 1), ALSMP being the successor series to Empires Season 1 in terms of creator uploading schedules (for the overlapping creators), and the many Company Cross References in ALSMP to Empires. It helps that there's been canonically confirmed Character Overlap between the Empires characters and their ALSMP counterparts (read: e1!Sausage and e2!Oli).
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: After getting kicked out of the League of Villains she founded for "not being evil enough", Shelby considers doing a Heel–Face Turn to become "Sunshine Girl". In the ALSMP, she rejects it but immediately gets blown up by a Creeper, ending her life as "Shadow Girl". In the successor series over a year later, Shelby does get to become Sunshine Girl in the end.
• Ho Yay:
  • In his second life, Sausage is thoroughly endeared by Jimmy being a cat and feeds him milk. Then this exchange happens:
    Jimmy: Fill it up! Fill it up again! Fill it up!
    Sausage: Oh– Hold up. Sorry– Hold on!
    Jimmy: Fill it up!
    Sausage: (overlapping) I've got– Let me– Hold on…
    Jimmy: I've got some cows in there! Fill it up!
    Sausage: No, don't worry! Here, I filled it up with my own milk!
    Jimmy: Oh–
    (Music stops)
  • Jimmy and Joel had this conversation in the in-game chat in Jimmy's 11th episode:
    Smallishbeans: can we sleep babe
    Jimmy: (after reading the message) Joel has ruined my fun, everybody. (eats a steak to regenerate his hunger bar) And because he said "babe", I cannot resist but sleep. (returns to his storage room/bedroom) Come on, babe, let's sleep.
    (Jimmy hops into bed to skip the night)
    Smallishbeans: ty babygirl
    SolidarityGaming: no worries sugar
    (Cut to daytime)
    Jimmy: Me and Joel– are best buds. Best buds. Best buds call each other that.
• Squick: Three words: Angel Sausage bathwater. Look, maybe killing Elytrian Sausage was a bit overkill for a response, but Vampire Scott had a point in it being unsanitary.
