Series creators Charles Johnston and Daniel Bryan Franklin have revealed a few things about the Detentionaire characters online through questions from the fans.

  • With Radcircles' obsession with knock-knock jokes, they said, "I imagine he had a book of knock-knock jokes when he was a kid that never got laughs. So he got obsessed with finding one that would."
  • Lee skipped a grade because he was often bored in school from not finding his classes challenging enough when he was younger. However, this also falls under Writers Cannot Do Math, as if Lee had skipped a grade he would have been in the Eleventh Grade rather than the Tenth, as him turning fifteen indicates, as Tenth graders are either fifteen already or will be fifteen before December. However, it is possible Lee has both skipped and repeated a grade.
  • The 15th graders all live together in a loft apartment at an old factory.
  • The Serpent was raised in Coral Grove's garbage pit, which was a small undersea cave that acted partially as a dungeon - a background that explains quite a number of things about him that we see in the show.
  • When asked what the big secret behind Lee's dad Alfred was, they said "Lee's father's secret is that he likes pudding".
  • When asked regarding Lee's birthday, Charles Johnston said he believed it to be approximately September 22, which while never officialized, can be deduced in the show from how it was celebrated in episode 11 and how every episode is approximately one school day.
  • In a conversation with a fan on Instagram, Lee's voice actor Jonathan Tan confirmed him to be bisexual.
  • Ed McFeeney come from a football family, Ed became the water boy because he's a hardcore football lover while not having the right build and stamina to play the game himself.
  • According to a Q&A session with Detentionaire co-creator Charles Johnson, the Tree Huggers have avoided punishment for their actions in "Welcome to Factory Island" due to having influential parents.
    • In the same Q&A session, it is mentioned that the students of A. Nigma are used to the Tree Huggers staging protests and that they [the Tree Huggers] are always looking for trouble.
