Go To

22 vs. Earth is a 2021 short film from Pixar, based on their feature film Soul.

Set some time before the events from the movie, the short focusses on 22 as she attempts to convince other souls to never go to Earth, but stay in the Great Before with her.

22 vs. Earth provides examples of:

  • Cool Mask: The 5 Souls in Apocalypse all wear black masks to distinguish themselves from the other souls in the Great Before.
  • Fun with Acronyms: 22 names the group of Souls she collects APOCALYPSE; Anonymous Provocateurs and Other Culprits that are Against Leaving Your friends to go to Pathetic Stupid Earth.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: 22's main motivation for trying to keep more souls in the Great Before, since every soul she befriends eventually ends up getting an Earth Pass and going to Earth, leaving her behind.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: All the souls 22 recruits eventually end up getting their Earth pass, all because of the things 22 makes them do in her attempt to keep them in the Great Beyond.
  • Man Bites Man: Moonbeam bites Jerry B to emphasize that she doesn't want to go to Earth. Jerry is just mildly annoyed by it however, and this act ends up getting Moonbeam her Earth Pass with the strong implication that she will become a dog on Earth.
  • Meet My Good Friends Lefty and Righty: 22 apparently names her fists Cheese and Crackers.
  • The Nicknamer: 22 nicknames the 5 souls in Apocalypse: Macaroni, Zimmy, Peanut, D-Pac and Moonbeam. She also nicknames her own fists Cheese and Crackers.
  • Running Gag: The 5 souls keep mispronouncing their group name, Apocalypse.
  • Shout-Out: 22's battle cry for her team is Apocalypse Now
  • Take That!: When one of the souls discovers that he's good at lying, and thus gains his Earth Pass, Jerry B snarks that Earth is about to get another politician.
  • The Unreveal: Near the end of the story, two Jerrys begin to discuss the meaning of life. Jerry A is about to reveal what it is, but the short cuts to the credits before the viewer gets to hear it. If viewers wanted to find out what it was, they are welcome to watch the actual film that took place after the short, where Joe Gardner learns more about himself.
