“Society Dog Show” is a 1939 Classic Disney Short directed by Bill Roberts, starring Mickey Mouse.
Mickey enters Pluto on a fancy dog show. Pluto's unrefined manners don't endear him to the judges, but when disaster strikes, he proves to be the noblest, bravest dog of them all.
- Big Damn Heroes: Pluto rushes into the burning building to rescue Fifi as he hears her cry for help. The floor beneath Fifi collapses and Pluto catches her at the last second.
- Butt Biter: After the judge rudely pushes him aside, Pluto reacts by biting off the back of his pants.
- By Wall That Is Holey: As Pluto enters the burning stage, a wall drops on him and breaks through the floor. He is saved from being crushed by an open window, but it leaves a small patch of flooring around him supported by a thin beam, which soon gives way and drops him down a railing that he rides like a roller coaster.
- Damsel in Distress: Fifi is trapped in the building when it catches on fire. Pluto rushes in to rescue her.
- End of an Era: This is the final screen appearance of Mickey's classic design with the solid black eyes.
- Furry Confusion: This being a cartoon about a dog show, there are plenty of regular four-legged dogs. This also being a typical Mickey Mouse cartoon of the 1930s, most of the people attending the dog show, including the judge, are anthropomorphic dogs.
- Heroic Dog: Pluto rescues Fifi from the burning building and is awarded with a “Public Hero Number 1” medal.
- Literal Ass-Kicking: Mickey and Pluto are booted out of the dog show after the latter attacks the judge.
- Oh Snap: Pluto when he sees the building on fire and realizes that Fifi is in it.
- Pet Contest Episode: This episode is about a dog show. Hence, the title!
- Rollerblade Good: Mickey puts roller skates on Pluto's feet so he can compete in the trick dog portion of the show. Then a fire breaks out and Pluto uses the skates to rush in and rescue Fifi.
- Slobs Versus Snobs: Mickey and Pluto are the slobs to the snobby judge and the other dog show contestants. The valet dismisses Mickey and Pluto as "riffraff" when he sees them arrive by wooden scooter. Pluto proves his mettle by saving Fifi from a fire.
- Tempting Fate: When Pluto attacks the judge, Mickey assures the judge, “He won’t bite!” The next moment, Pluto tears off the seat of the judge’s trousers.
