A 1930 Talkartoons cartoon created by Max and Dave Fleischer and animated by Grim Natwick. This short marked the second appearance of Bimbo and the first appearance of Betty Boop, albeit in a much smaller role and in a prototype design as a poodle instead of a human.

Not to be confused with the 1955 Little Audrey short of the same name.

Bimbo works in a club as a waiter/chef.

Tropes Used In This Short:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Dizzy Dishes.
  • Ascended Extra: Betty only had a small role in this short, but still won audiences over and kept making appearances in future cartoons until eventually upstaging Bimbo and becoming Fleshier Studio's first big cartoon star.
  • Bones Do Not Belong There: While eating the table leg, Gus Gorilla finds a giant bone in it as if it were a leg of meat.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Betty Boop of course is shown as an anthropomorphized poodle. In later cartoons, her design would be changed into a human by turning her dog nose into a button nose and her dog ears into hoop earrings. Her wardrobe still consists of a Little Black Dress except that it has a large bow in the back and she's wearing visible stockings.
    • Bimbo's design also looks much different then the final design that would eventually be seen in Bimbo's Initiation.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Gus Gorilla while waiting for his meal eats his silverware sandwiched between plates and later a table leg.
  • The Flapper: Betty of course but also the dancing cat girls.
  • The Flapping Dickey: Bimbo's dicky shoots straight out while watching Betty Boop.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When the skirt of Betty's dress rises, for a split second it's shown that she's not actually wearing any underwear.
  • Going Commando: See Freeze-Frame Bonus.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: While escaping Gus Gorilla, Bimbo ends up pulling off his pants and revealing his polka dotted underwear.
  • Heart Beats out of Chest: While watching Betty perform, Bimbo's heart bulges out of his chest and as he pushes it down it keeps bulging out of different parts of his body. He hits it with a hammer to calm it down.
  • Killer Gorilla: Gus Gorilla becomes very impatient when Bimbo doesn't serve him his roast duck.
  • Let's Meet the Meat: The roast duck that Bimbo serves starts moving and dancing on it's own.
  • No Name Given: Gus Gorilla's name isn't mentioned in this or any future Betty Boop cartoon.
  • Sexy Cat Person: The club features dancing cat girls.
  • Something Else Also Rises: See The Flapping Dickey.
  • Split Hair: Bimbo uses a hair to test the sharpness of a knife, but instead the hair cleanly cuts straight through the knife.
