Various Happenings is a gothic-inspired fantasy webcomic by J.M. Havens about a young lady who meets another at a bus stop and is dragged rather unwillingly into a web of posturing and plotting by things much bigger than herself. With her new friend, she must now deal with trying to find her own answers while trying to survive the various happenings that occur as a result.

Comic updates generally on Fridays (though it stumbled with a bit of schedule slip early on.)


This comic provides examples of:

  • Alien Geometries: The corresponder's home is shown to be this way due to the sheer number and arrangement of magical artifacts present there.
  • Content Warnings: The Site has a section explaining each fetish the chapters will depict especially so folks who don’t like specific fetishes don’t get caught by surprise
  • Eaten Alive: Edwina does this to the leader of muggers who jumped her and Cass to show she's not to be fucked around especially to the audience who don’t receive a discretion shot.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Edwina, to a T, especially when you consider she moves around at lightning speed without actually apparently moving.
  • Expy: Graveworms are very similar to Sandworms, both being large worms with black and white stripes that inhabit a supernatural local, although the grave worms lack Nested Mouths.
  • Gigantic Moon: Used frequently in Chapter 3
  • Glowing Eyes: Everything in Hell seems to do this, even the cute things like Scooter and the graveworms.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: The first chapter opens with this.
  • Goth Spirals: They have a tendency to appear in the filigree that appears around the pages.
  • Hartman Hips: Edwina who's waistline is as thin as a pinched drinking straw, although most of the author's female seem to possess it, definitely an AuthorAppeal as every female draw possesses it.
  • Human Disguise: Edwina as she reveals in Chapter 03 to actually be a Demon
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: many of the females draw by the author have those but Cassandra takes the spotlight alongside Edwina in that area which they appear to have no ribcage, Justified In Edwina's case as she's not actually human.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: The Oracles. These striped, snakelike creatures have mouths full of sharp, pointy teeth. They seem to like to show them off as well.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Eddie, whenever she gets half a chance, with a example in page 59, where she explains who she is while posing emphasizing each word during a pose.
  • Mugging the Monster: A group of goons jump Edwina and Cass in an alleyway just as Cassandra recovers the letter with her destination's address on it. It doesn't go well, particularly for their leader...
  • Multiform Balance: Edwina seems have two forms of her demon one, one that is MsFanservice another that is very nightmare indulcing…
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Eddie is fond of lean-ins, nose booping and generally picking up and handling Cass due to their difference in stature.
  • Officially Shortened Title: Originally "The Various Happenings of Edwina Tucker" after the name of the blog it originated from, it was shortened to just "Various Happenings" sometime during the middle of the first chapter.
  • Right Behind Me: A graveworm sneaks up behind Scooter as he's listening in on the mysterious conversation in the graveyard, startling him and causing him to run right into the midst of it (and trouble.) In fact, both Oracles end up sneaking up on him shortly there after. At the third time, he's simply not having any of it.
  • Technically Naked Shapeshifter: Edwina when she reveals to be a demon in Chapter 03, it shows on pages 57-58: her hair acts as a black goo-slime-like which covers her entire body in her real form, but acts as a form of clothing-like material in her more friendly form of it.
