The Fantasy Book Club is a Fantasy Webcomic created by TheEvilNae in 2020.

Fiona, a feisty young student librarian, finds a mysterious book, which mind controls her into freeing an ancient Mesopotamian magician, who gives her fire powers and nearly kills her. Soon after, apparitions of monsters start appearing. Fiona and the Fantasy Book Club, must stop the monsters, who are very much not just apparitions, and find a way to control Fiona's powers.

This webcomic provides examples of:

  • Abuse Discretion Shot: You never actually see Fiona's father hurting her, only the injuries left after the fact. Later averted, as there is a panel of him choking her in a flashback.
  • Abusive Parents: Fiona's father physically abused Fiona and her mother to the point where Fiona tried to kill him in middle school.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Fiona has red hair and can control fire.
  • Berserk Button: Don't call Fiona "Fi" if you want to live. Even the AU version of her isn't fond of it.
  • Blind Seer: Eremis' mother could see the future and wore a blindfold. Averted, with Eremis, who is also a seer and her vision is perfectly fine.
  • Brainy Brunette: Tristan has brown hair and is a pre-med student.
  • Breaking the Bonds: Werewolf!Fiona breaks the chains binding her to the floor after Dain attacks her for shooting down his advances during the ball.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Gender-inverted with Tristan and Fiona. Fiona is rude and antisocial, while he takes her insults and tries to help her the best he can.
  • Butch Lesbian: Brie works at her family's auto shop, is a blacksmith, built like a brick, and has a traditionally men's undercut; and she loves girls.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Fiona is aromantic, Tristan is asexual, Brie is sapphic, Eremis is lesbian, and Drew is transmasc and pansexual.
  • Celibate Hero: Justified, Fiona doesn't date because she is aromantic.
  • Content Warning: The Webtoon description contains a warning that the series has "swearing, scenes of violence/blood, and portrayals of mental health disorders."
    • Uncertain Sights-Page 16 has an additional one that states "This episode of The Fantasy Book Club contains references to child abuse, violence, and potentially disturbing images that may be upsetting to some readers. While the character involved feels trapped with no way out, there are people who can help. In the USA you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. You are not alone."
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Fiona did not have an excellent home life growing up. Her father physically abused her and her mother, and authority figures ignored Fiona's reports as her father was a "pillar of the community." Feeling she had no other way out, she decided to stab her father to death in middle school. Tristan ratted her out before she could kill him, and she was arrested for attempted murder.
    • Eremis lost her parents to a car crash when she was only a few years old and ended up in foster care because she had no other living relatives. She was abused by several families, and developed mental health issues that led to her being institutionalized for several years as a teenager and that she still fights as an adult.
  • Flaming Hair: Fiona's superpowered dragon form, Fire, has flames as hair.
  • Fiery Redhead: Fiona has bright red hair and a Hair-Trigger Temper.
  • First-Name Basis: Fiona calls her boss, Ms. Morgan, by her first name.
  • Foreshadowing: In Episode 1, the three things that Fiona lists as not being real are magic, dragons, and monsters. Fiona accidentally frees an ancient magician, drinks dragon blood and becomes a dragon; and fights monsters.
  • Foster Kid: Eremis was one, as part of her Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Everyone assumes that Fiona set her house on fire. Fiona keeps to herself, is surly, and her Antisocial Personality Disorder certainly doesn't help matters.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Eremis is a Lipstick Lesbian and Brie is a Butch Lesbian. It doesn't stop them from dating.
  • Playing with Fire: Fiona's dragon powers.
  • Patricide: In response to years of abuse, Fiona attempted to kill her father.
  • Rebellious Spirit: Fiona hates being told what to do.
If my life was going to be destroyed regardless ... I was going to be the one to do it! Because nobody tells me what to fucking do.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Fiona, the main character, has red hair and green eyes, and can turn into a dragon.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Tristan, a pre-med student, has a pair.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Social services finally get involved when Fiona broke and tried to murder her father in middle school.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Tristan and Fiona were friends in middle school before he ratted out Fiona to the guidance counselor.
