Webcomic / Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gleaming Hearts

Go To

A Fan Webcomic based on the core premise of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, but with an original plot.

One day, Jake wakes up to find that he has become a Riolu, and a Diancie named Nirvana needs his help. Before he can ask her to explain she stabs him in the shoulder with a crystal and tells him to run from the Slowking coming after her.

From there, Jake meets a hotheaded Fennekin named Kiln who's trying to join an Explorer's Guild, and a Sandslash named Claude who was Nirvana's guardian. Together, they must fight a darkness spreading across the land.

Was originally hosted on Smackjeeves, now found on thecomicseries and Tumblr.

This comic provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Adventure Guild: The Guild of Flowers, which Kiln has been trying to join for years and which admits the three main characters join after the first couple arcs.
  • Balloon Belly: Jake, Kiln, and Claude after a feast.
  • The Corruption: The darkness the Slowking uses Nirvana's crystals to spread. Fortunately the crystal she embedded in Jake's shoulder seems to have some ability to cleanse them, though he's not sure how to make it work.
  • Crystal Prison: Where Jake and Kiln find Claude.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: The first time Jake uses Force Palm he blasts the practice dummy off its' stand.
  • Eye Color Change: Jake's eyes change from brown to solid pink as he's absorbing the dark crystal energy from corrupted Gretchen, and his irises remain pink afterwards.
  • Hammerspace: How did Drex fit that hoagie into his collar?
  • Help Mistaken for Attack: When Jake and Kiln free Claude he initially assumes they were with Nirvana's enemies and attacks them. Forcing them to pin him down and explain.
  • Intrepid Merchant: Bramble, a Mimikyu first seen lurking outside Drybone's walls and who keeps his wares in a dimensional pocket under his rag.
  • Level-Up at Intimacy 5: Ambiguously platonic example, Jake and Kiln evolve after Jake decides to make the most of his time in the Pokemon world adventuring with Kiln.note
  • Master of Illusion: Gretchen the Zoroark and her Zorua gang, in addition to disguises they can make fake bridges appear or toy with Pokemon's insecurities.
  • Meaningful Name: A kiln is a type of high-temperature oven usually used for pottery, appropriate for a fire-type with Kiln.
  • Trapped in Another World: Jake, though his former human status isn't confirmed until the end of the second chapter.
