They grow up so fast... and in her case, immensely.

(A little oni girl is lovingly clinging to a little human boy's arm)
Kirika: Hey, Billy. Will you always protect me? Even when we get older?
Billy: (rubbing the back of his head) Of course! Leave it to me!
Kirika: Yaay!
Billy: (internally) She's so cute!
Caption: 10 years later
Kirika: (now older, taller and more muscular, holding a now older Billy's hand, in a threatening tone while holding a kanabō with her other hand) HUH?! WHAT ARE YA LOOKIN' AT?!
Billy: (looking down, blushing in embarrassment) ....

Oni GFnote  is an Slice of Life/Romantic Comedy/Urban Fantasy Webcomic written and illustrated by PeaCh88 and is part of a series of webcomics titled "Tomboy Girlfriends", which include Tomboy GF, Demon King GF and Sadist Junior.

The comic is about a pair of childhood friends, Billy and Kirika; Billy is a human boy while Kirika is an oni girl. Their parents made an agreement that they would get married to each other once they reached adulthood. Of course, as the pair entered their high school years, Kirika had grown from a sweet, lovable little girl to an aloof, tough-as-nails tomboy and, because of that, it's quite difficult for Billy to finally advance their relationship after 10 years of knowing each other. Of course, what he doesn't really know is that Kirika is still that little girl deep down and clearly still likes Billy, but is too shy and insecure about being an oni to reciprocate. Will these two ever develop the romance they both very much desire?

The comic can be read on the artist's Twitter page here. Merryweatherey also dubs the comics in Japanese in his YouTube page here.

Tropes:

  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: In one strip, Kirika shoots down Billy's suggestion that they should hold hands while they walk to school because she's scared that she might hurt him with her superhuman strength. Naturally, she doesn't come out and say this, so Billy assumes she just doesn't like the idea of holding hands, period.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In every flashback to Billy and Kirika's childhood, there's been a dark-haired little girl seething with jealousy over their relationship in the background. A later strip reintroduces this girl in the present day, showing that she's become Billy's Stalker with a Crush and hinting that she'll have a larger presence in the plot going forward.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Kirika and Billy have known each other since elementary school, and the flashbacks show they used to be very close. While they've become slightly more distant once they reach high school (mostly on Kirika's side), they still stick together, though the both of them also carry a stronger torch for each other.
  • Crossover: A pinup has Kirika meeting Demon King Alvida from Demon King GF. A continuation of that pic has Kirika not really noticing her and wondering where the Demon King is, much to Alvida's annoyance.
  • Fee Fi Faux Pas: Billy innocently asks Kirika if he can touch her horns, unaware that Oni culture views touching a woman's horns as an intimate act to be done only by her lover. Kirika gets mad and calls him a disgusting pervert for this, though deep down she does want him to touch her horns.
  • The Gadfly: Kirika's younger sister loves teasing her over her feelings for Billy.
  • Horned Humanoid: Kirika has two horns growing from her forehead, while her younger sister Churuka only has one horn.
  • Interspecies Romance: Billy the human and Kirika the oni were betrothed when they were children and have romantic feelings for each other in the present day.
  • Oni: Kirika is an oni and fits the typical description of one, being a muscular, red-skinned, Horned Humanoid giantess who occasionally lugs around a kanabo.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: They haven't gotten married yet, but Billy and Kirika are each other fiancees due to the fact that, when they were younger, their parents had arranged for them to get married in the future. The fact that the two have genuine romantic feelings toward one another is really a bonus in their families' favor.
  • Snake People: A lamia girl appears in most of the flashbacks to Billy and Kirika's childhood, where she's usually trying her damnedest to keep the jealous dark-haired girl from attacking Kirika.
  • Stalker Shrine: Billy's stalker has covered at least one wall of her bedroom with blown-up photos of him, so that he's the first thing she sees when she wakes up in the morning.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: By virtue of being an oni, present day Kirika completely towers over Billy.
