Easter Sunday is a 2022 American comedy film starring Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy as a struggling actor, comedian, and single father who attends a gathering of his loud and dysfunctional Filipino-American family on the titular Easter Sunday in Daly City, California, with most aspects of it based on his life.

Joe Valencia (Jo Koy) has been busy with his work to even be there for his son Junior (Brandon Wardell), on top of his agent Nick (Jay Chandrasekhar, who also directs the movie) repeatedly bugging him to go with a role he was helping Joe win, to his annoyance due to his role being stereotypical. To compensate, Joe resolves to take Junior with him to his family's Easter Sunday celebration in Daly City for the weekend. However, because of how his family acts, especially his mother Susan (Lydia Gaston) having a feud with his aunt Teresa (Tia Carrere), and his cousin Eugene (Eugene Cordero) having a run-in with a gangster named Dev (Asif Ali) for something he stole from him, things just gone big for Joe to handle on that day...

"Let's get this trope started, baby!":

  • Adam Westing: Lou Diamond Phillips playing himself, but as a actor who lives in Daly City, right down to playing Manny Pacquiao in an upcoming fictional biopic. He ends up being his co-star in the sitcom Joe ends up getting.
  • Beer Commercials: Made fun of, especially Joe's Budweiser ad, which his line kept being uttered around to his face.
  • Berserk Button: Apparently Joe's family (and Tala) don't take it too well when Dev says that Manny is "The man who can't beat Mayweather" after they explain why they have the same pin number to Dev. (In this case, Manny Pacquiao's birthday.)
  • Bilingual Bonus: Some short lines in the movie are not translated, but longer lines are, as a subversion.
  • Easter Episode
  • Embarrassing Ad Gig: Joe is only known to be "the beer ad guy" with the catchphrase "Let's get this party started, baby!", much to his chagrin.
  • Inspiring Sermon: Joe pulls one for the Easter sermon combined with his trademark comedy. See Let's See YOU Do Better!.
  • Let's See YOU Do Better!: After Joe unintentionally interrupts the Easter sermon one too many times, the priest dared Joe to go to the pulpit and deliver a sermon.
  • My Beloved Smother: Susan is this to Joe.
  • Road Trip Plot: A part of the movie in the beginning starts like this. They do make it to Daly City a short amount of time.
  • Unaccustomed as I Am to Public Speaking...: Of a sort. Joe is used to speaking in a stand-up context. He is not used to public speaking in a religious context.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: The reason the plot kicks off was because of Joe not being there for his son Junior, with Joe being late to showing up to his school being the final straw, and leading to Joe taking Junior with him to Daly City to see his family being his attempt to spend time with him to make up for it.
