Magical Island is a webcomic on DeviantArt created by Aaron Brawnstone. It tells the story of a young woman named Angel. She finds out she's a princess and future queen of an unknown kingdom. She goes to the titular island in order to claim it. With the help of her younger sister Blossom and her guardian Aaron, they battle bizarre creatures while trying to stop an evil force corrupting their home.


Magical Island Tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: The characters last names are never said in the series. The only way to find their last names is through their character bio.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Aaron and Aki, its never clear if they got their tan from being in the sun too long or if this is their natural skin color.
  • Ambiguously Human: There's some confusion on some characters that makes the audience wonder if they're human. Doll is confirmed to be an alien and Kireina-Chan is a succubus. The Colonel, Nebula, Raven, and other humanoids just make people confused of what they are. Special mention goes to the vampire. He has blue skin and six fingers.
  • Ax-Crazy: Aaron, the reason why he's calm is because Angel and Blossom are there to keep his anger in check, if they're not around, just leave him alone, because he has killed people with one little pinky.
    • The Chaotic Army's admins count, especially Ash.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Mai, Blossom and Melantha. Mai is the youngest of her team and family. Melantha act like the baby on the villains' side (even though she's more than one thousand years old.)and Blossom is the shortest and youngest of the entire cast.
  • Baby Talk: Blossom talks like this. She replaces her "R"s with "W"s.
  • Bad Boss: Lord Maurice sends General Mitch and Rosie to do all the work while he just stays in his fort lookinh at himself.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: The heroes have so many adversaries. First being Lord Maurice from volume one. But he is actually a pawn of Nebula, who is the real mastermind of planning the tournament. Volume 2 reveals President Jupiter who is xenophobic to anyone different from him. But the true dangerous threat isn't him or Nebula, but Raven, the real head of the Chaotic Army.
  • Big Eater: Mi, Aki, Angel, Blossom and Aaron really love to eat.
  • Blush Sticker: All the female characters have these to highlight their beauty or cuteness.
  • Cain and Abel: Lord Maurice is selfish and a jerk while his brother Thomas is nice and friendly.
  • Cute and Psycho: Melantha is still cute even if she's trying to stab you with her spear.
  • Darker and Edgier: The creator's first series "Angel and Blossom Adventure Comics" was more lighthearted and has slice of life adventures. Word of God says this series was intended to be much darker. The later volumes is intended to be much darker.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Aaron does have a monstrous appearance but he's one of the good guys.
  • Dork Knight: Thomas dosen't how to hold a sword and shield right.
  • Everything's Deader with Zombies: In one area on the island, there's a barren where zombies roam.
  • Eviler than Thou: Lord Maurice is just an utter jerk but Nebula is more eviler than him.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Melantha's eyes are either beautiful or unsettling for some people.
  • Fluffy Tamer: Blossom loves all of Aaron's animal and monster forms. She even loves the night predators and the magma dragon.
  • Four-Fingered Hands: Some animals and mythical creatures have these. All humans have five fingered except for the Colonel who is implied to be inhuman. In episode 19 of the A&BA Comics, the vampire has six fingers.
  • The Giant: Aaron is the tallest of the human cast.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Even the villains get to join in on the fun with the Q&As.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Angel and Blossom have blond hair and they're charming.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Some fans don't blame Aaron for snapping at people. Come on now, he is just minding his business but people make him mad for their amusement.
  • Modest Royalty: Angel is future queen but she wears a tank-top, skirt and biker shorts. Something a casual girl wears.
  • Modesty Shorts: The female cast wear leggings under their skirts. Except Kireina
  • Ms. Fanservice: Angel, Nebula, Aki, Rosie, Doll, Venus, and Kireina. They have athletic figures and wear tight clothing.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: Damien is the most goofiest drawn character in this series.
  • Only One Name: Angel and Blossom's last names are never revealed.
  • Otaku: Betty and Jeff are this. The only difference is that Jeff enjoys being one, while Betty is ashamed of being one.
  • The Quiet One: Blossom and Betty. They don't talk much.
  • "Rashomon"-Style: In the second volume, each of the main characters tell the story from their point of view.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Raven has ruby red eyes and she's one of the villains.
  • Religion of Evil: The Chaotic Army is this, it is a cult dedicated to black magic. They summoned an ancient deity called The Beast King to corrupted any living thing into mindless monsters.
  • Rollerblade Good: Angel travels and fights while rollerblading.
  • Royal Blood: Angel and Blossom are both princesses and since Angel is the eldest sibling, she is future queen.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Angel may be a princess and future queen but she's not a famous athlete for nothing.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Betty, the reason why she's shy is because she thinks people wouldn't like her if she just talks about anime and video games.
  • Sir Swears Alot: Well, this is a family-friendly series so there is no actual cursing. But the words "dumb" "idiot" "stupid" and "moron" are the closest things to bad words. Aaron, Aki and Venus are the most fouled mouthed.(Especially Venus)
  • Stalker with a Crush: Damien falls for any girls he sees, just for them to kick his butt.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Angel is the most athletic of the entire cast and also the tallest of the female cast.
    • However, its revealed Kireina is the true tallest female of the cast.
  • Sweet Tooth: Mi and Blossom. Mi loves cookies, and Blossom loves chocolate cake (and cookies).
  • Third-Person Person: Blossom talks like this. But she does say "I" "my" and "me" sometimes.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Aki and Angel are the tomboy older siblings while Mi and Blossom are the girly younger siblings.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Jeff is trying his best to please his neglectful father.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Blossom, for a child she seems to how how to deceive her enemies and know a lot about animals subspecies and the environments they live in.
