Just a goth gal and her magic hair.
Evelyne and the Occult is a Horror Webcomic by InksOwl comics published as a Webtoon Original.

Evelyne is a university student turned paranormal investigator who must hide her interests from her parents, who are scared for her safety. After heading out with her friends to investigate a haunted house, she is attacked by an evil spirit. Evelyne's hair absorbs it, and thus begins Evelyne's foray towards seeking out forces that are best left in the dark.

It was first published in Spanish under the name La tenebrosa Evelyne which can be found here.

Evelyne and the Occult provides examples of the following:

  • Abusive Parents: Leo's father used to beat him before Leo was sent to live with his grandparents. Leo still deals with the trauma, which is revealed to be why he can't control his Nahual.
  • Animesque: The author's art style is very reminiscent of anime and manga, especially with facial expressions.
  • Battle Couple: Leo and Evelyne fight alongside each other quite often.
  • Bond Creatures: Every human has a Nahual assigned to them at birth. Only through proper training and meditation can most humans harness their power, with the sole exception being Evelyne, who unleashes hers out of pure instinct. The downside to using their power, is that the human can lose their sanity if they use too much without being in the correct mental state.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • An owl for Lucía, a villain, and Evelyne, a goth.
    • A crow for Leo, who has severe trauma from being abused, and is prone to losing control of his Nahual.
    • An ant for Sam, who is extremely strong for his size, even lifting concrete chunks.
  • Cursed Item: Vanessa, the neighbour's daughter, loves collecting dolls. She took a doll from the Island of Dolls, which had a malevolent spirit that possessed her even after the doll was disposed of.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Most of the main cast has this.
    • Sam has black irises and black hair.
    • Evelyne has black irses and black hair.
    • Downplayed with Ana. She has yellow irises and is blonde, but her eyes are a shade darker than her hair.
    • Averted with Leo. He has black irises and white hair.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Seems to run in Evelyne's family.
    • Evelyne's grandmother, Lucía, was nearly killed by an angry mob, her father was murdered, and her house was burnt down. The townspeople saw her hanging around Moon's Blade and assumed that she was responsible for the dead livestock and missing children. Lucía murdered the ones who beat her as she lay dying, and cursed the townspeople, causing the town to become abandoned.
    • Evelyne's mother also has this. Her mother (Lucía) never loved her, and she apparently treated her like "an animal guarding its food" instead. Evelyne's mother assumed that was just the way her mother was, until one night, she saw Lucía in her monstrous form and was nearly killed, only saved by her father sacrificing himself so that she could run away. No wonder she doesn't want to talk about it...
  • Dark Is Evil: Moon Blade is associated with the colour black and is an evil cult trying to summon a demon. Lucía also has black feathers in her owl form.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Evelyne is goth, her partially owl form has black feathers, and her magical hair is black. She is the heroic main protagonist.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog:
    • Evelyne's dog, Taquito, can see spirits. He is visibly shaken after a spirit tries to attack Evelyne in her sleep.
    • The horses in episode 55 are this. They start running away and whining once they detect spirits that the humans can't see.
  • Feather Flechettes: Lucía sends sharp black feathers towards Sara during her fight with her.
  • Game Face: Lucía's true form is a woman with a mouth that resembles a break made of flesh (think Momo) and blank eyes. To conceal this, she uses magic to put on the appearance of a normal young woman.
  • Goth Girls Know Magic: Evelyne is goth and can partially turn into an owl.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Leo's grandfather gets stabbed through by a demon to protect Leo.
    • Evelyne's grandfather was murdered by Lucía while trying to hold her off to give his daughter a chance to escape.
  • Identical Granddaughter: Evelyne looks just like her grandmother Lucía. Discussed, when Eveylne asks her mother if she is scared of her for looking like her grandmother. Her mother responds that even though they may look almost the same, the look in Evelyne's eyes is different from the one in Lucía's, as hers are "filled with warmth and sparkle" while her grandmother's are cold and monstrous.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Leo's grandfather is impaled through the chest by a demon's talon with the talon coming out thorugh the back.
  • Ironic Name: Lucía means "light" and is derived from the Latin root "lux." The bearer of this name commands the forces of darkness.
  • Latino Is Brown: Inverted. Despite ostensibly being set somewhere near Mexico City, everyone is as pale as the moon.
  • Light Is Good:
    • Sara, Leo's kindly grandmother, wears bright yellow clothing and can turn into an owl with golden feathers.
    • Sun's Edge, a benevolent association of magic users, who Sara is a part of, is associated with the sun and wears yellow robes.
  • Living Toys: Sofía is a heroic variant of this. Her spirit was put in a doll because Moon Blade is using her physical body as a conduit for something. She is actually helpful and means no harm, though she does nearly give people heart attacks on accident because she forgets that they think she is a normal doll.
  • Mood Whiplash: Episode 55. It goes from a heartwarming mother-daughter scene between Evelyne and her mom to a fight with Lucía.
  • Muggle–Mage Romance: Evelyne's mother can use magic and her father is a totally normal human, who doesn't even know about magic until he gets kidnapped by his evil mother, Lucía.
  • My Nayme Is: Downplayed. Though Evelyne's name is spelled unusually, "Evelyn" is a fairly common name and "Evelyne" isn't exactly The Unpronounceable.
  • Mystical White Hair: Leo has stark white hair and can see the supernatural, in contrast to most of the other characters in this setting, who have normal hair colours.
  • Ominous Owl: Zig-Zagged. While Lucía, a villain, takes the form of a black owl, Sara, a Granny Classic, takes the form of a golden owl. The main character, Evelyne, partially takes the form of a black owl as well.
  • Parental Substitute: Leo's grandfather is this to Leo because Leo's biological father was physically abusive towards him.
  • Prehensile Hair: Evelyne can grab things with her hair and use it to fight due to a protection spell placed on her as a baby.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Lucía murdered all those who kicked her as she lay dying, and cursed the entire town after an angry mob nearly killed her, killed her father, and burnt down their house.
  • Solar and Lunar: Moon's Blade is the evil organization and is associated with the moon, while the good Sun's Edge are associated with the Sun.
  • Start of Darkness: Episode 31 - Broken Ties is about Lucía's Dark and Troubled Past, as recounted by Sara.
  • Super Window Jump: Deconstructed. After Evelyne jumps through a window in Episode 88, she is left with tons of nasty cuts all over her body.
  • Villainous Lineage: Subverted. Even though Lucía is irredeemably evil, her daughter and granddaughter are heroic and want nothing to do with her.
