Izzy Fisher is an angry, thoroughly-traumatized superhuman desperately trying to live a normal life. Which would be bad enough if she didn't just enroll herself into Bloodbath, the world's largest illegal murder competition, by defending a contestant who was nearly killed in the parking lot! Izzy's first thought is to give the referee a detailed lesson on how she used a pipe she pulled from Hammerspace to slice a cyborg killer in half, but then they offer her first opponent - the cult-leader / high-school-of-horrors principal who ruined her life.
One dead child-soldier principal later, she's agreed to help the other contestant - Ingrid, a shapeshifter who has fought in Bloodbath since she was six - to kill their opponents until they can kill the referees and dismantle Bloodbath itself.
