Vlog After College is a YouTube channel revolving around Ryen Lung and his pet dog, Gatsby the corgi. The viewer can watch their daily routine which often involves dog walks, play dates, cooking, working out, and more.
This channel provides examples of:
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Gatsby has one in the form of Tater Tot. Unfortunately, he's too energetic for Gatsby's liking.
- Audience Participation: Giveaways, trivia and other games, hide-and-seek with Gatsby, guess-the-song, charades, etc. are popular segments of the channel.
- Asian and Nerdy: Ryen is Japanese-American (from Hawaii). His house is decorated with nerdy stuff (including his Amiibo collection), Gatsby has nerdy toys (a Yoda doll and BB-8 ball being among them), and sometimes Ryen would feature his shopping trips for Pokémon cards or other such items on the vlog. He also graduated with a degree in Marketing from Cornell University. (The diploma is visible, framed on his wall.)
- Birthday Episode: There's one for his 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th birthday. That would be Episode 464, Episode 527, Episode 582, and Episode 625 respectively.
- Canine Companion: Gatsby serves as this to Ryen.
- Cone of Shame: Gatsby sports one after licking off his fur too much. The trope is actually averted, as Gatsby doesn't mind the cone and he only wears it when Ryen can't watch him.
- Cover Version: Ryen will often play a popular song on his ukulele or simply sing it out loud, and sometimes have viewers guess the song.
- Friend to All Living Things: Ryen of course loves his pet dogs, as well as the fish in his aquarium.
- Halloween Episode: Notable examples include Episode 447, Episode 568, and Episode 614. The first example even has a corgi costume party!
- Holiday Episode: Multiple ones, like Episode 541 (Easter). Also see Halloween Episode above.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: In Episode 343, Ryen said that Gatsby just wanted to be so good. Smash cut to the puppy pooping on the floor.
- Nice Guy: Ryen and Gatsby are both generally friendly people.
- Precious Puppy: Gatsby was this until he got older. He's still cute, but no longer a puppy.
- Real Men Cook: Ryen regularly cooks for himself and his corgi. Makes sense, considering he lives alone.
- Shout-Out: "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!"
- Spell My Name With An S: It's Ryen, not Ryan.
- Supreme Chef: Meals feature extensively on the channel, ranging from protein shakes to full-blown feasts. Many episodes are dedicated to him cooking specific meals, sometimes even for Gatsby and himself.
- Surprise Party: Gatsby gets one for his 3rd birthday.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Ryen amusedly says that it's "So inappropriate for you!" upon noticing puppy Gatsby animatedly watching Gangs of New York.
