"Now I gotta be honest with the people watching this, some of you might think it's cool to go to foreign countries and break petty vagrancy laws, but at the end of the day... it's also very fun".

Vagrant Holiday is a travel YouTube channel consisting of a nameless/faceless YouTuber who travels the world. While on paper it sounds like a typical travel channel, as the name suggests, it's anything but. Instead, the unknown traveler decides to spend as little as possible, from sleeping outside (or finding locations to either trespass in) all while exploring the locations they go to in the cheapest way possible, all while retaining a Deadpan Snarker attitude throughout their adventures.

His channel is right there.

Tropes found in Vagrant Holiday videos:

  • Chick Magnet: Has a habit of having random local women start following him around from time to time, and then end up "staying the night" with them. Some of them, like the French girl, will even invite him back when he's in town.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The man is somehow able to be prepared for anything despite literally just being a cheap tourist in foreign countries, consisting of his stuff just being a black and white book tablet, a phone specifically set to just help with mapping and bus routes, the usual items for bathing, his sleeping bag for outside locations, and just black clothing.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The crux of the channel consists of a young man traveling Europe in a very apathetic and bored tone all also mocking certain things and tropes. And it's pretty funny.
  • Determinator: Vagrant will suffer a lot throughout, with the third video III - Third Time's Not the Charm having his stuff stolen and being forced to find more indoor locations. When discussing how some would probably ask him to go to a hostel, his response:
Vagrant: ...But then it wouldn't be "Vagrant Holiday", it'd just be "Holiday", and what's the fun in that?
  • The Faceless: Vagrant has never shown himself on camera, and one can only ever see his hands and legs, and that's about it. That being said, snippets of his appearance have been seen throughout is video, notably in the unlisted "Elevator Man" video.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode:
    • "Forbidden Island". In comparison to his Holiday videos, Vagrant instead decides, for the hell of it, to visit the McNeil Island, despite it being illegal for citizens to even be there.
    • This also applies to V - Train Hopping, where he just jumps on trains and sees where it leads him too.
    • "Riot Holiday", which is more of a darker showing of his town of Seattle being destroyed during the George Floyd Riots. For most of the video, Vagrant's silent and observing the chaos and recording as he goes along.
  • House Squatting: Vagrant is really, really good at finding abandoned houses and apartments for temporary lodging.
  • No Name Given: Nor any nickname or name at that, so at best for this page (and for the fans), he's just called "Vagrant".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's a bit of a rude dick, but Vagrant does tend to be rather kind when encountering harmless locals and will at times be pleasant. He just hides it with a snarky façade.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Despite his abrasive personality, he never tries to be too disrespectful to the locals unless provoked. At most, he'll try to be respectful, all retaining his usual snark charm.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: During the "Forbidden Island" video, he comes across a garage and sees a series of crystals on the table...then recoils silently upon realizing what it is truly is.
Vagrant: Is this seriously a bunch of crystal meth on this fucking table!?
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Vagrant's snarky and very dry with his commentary... however he never gets angry. But it has happened on two occasions:
    • The first one being on his third video III - Third Times Not the Charm where he shows a bit of concern during his stay in Portugal when cornered by drug dealers for simply sitting in a plaza and eating (although this was not helped with him trolling another drug dealer with his baking powder he uses as toothpaste). And much later afterwards, he's clearly irritated when not only was he sucker punched by a dealer (leading to his glasses being broken in half) but his sleeping bag that he hid was stolen, forcing him to sneak into a hotel for the night.
    • The unlisted CHAZ video had him being eerily silent as he was being accused and yelled at by two SJW citizens of CHAZ when all he was doing as recording. Even with the Riot Holiday video, he was making some snark and dry commentary, but here, he absolutely doesn't say a single word as he's being yelled at.
    • After being noticed by the conductor in V - Train Hopping, Vagrant gets notably very scared. Understandably so, because this kicks off one of his closest calls with law enforcement in the whole series, which he later recounts with his usual jokey, snarky commentary.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Throughout the series, Vagrant shares knowledge of very specific historical events that took place in the locations he visits (particularly in Europe). VH shows his photography chops with some breathtaking photos of an abandoned train station in the second episode. He also tells overzealous deer to fuck off and thinks most art "sucks ass".
  • Take That!:
    • "II - For a Few More Bushes More" and "III - Third Time's Not the Charm...", he will snark about political ideologies, and both sides mind you, notably making snide remarks about Antifa and Nazis, calling Nazis who still think they're relevant and anarchists who think they're fighting Nazis "idiots".
    • "Forbidden Island" had him poking fun at the US Government for forcing the citizens off of McNeil Island.
    • Surprisingly enough averted with the "Riot Holiday' and the unlisted CHAZ video. While he does poke fun at how CHAZ is structured in the beginning, all the snark fades when he begins to get yelled at by the citizens despite being a casual observer. He is never shown initiating conversation with residents of the failed state, perhaps recalling the laconic filmmaking technique perfected from Vagrant Holiday's (rumored) former repute.
  • "Ugly American" Stereotype: Leans into this for comedic effect by digging into a bag of pretzels while explaining that Japanese etiquette frowns upon eating while walking. During his European travels, he gets out of trouble with local authorities by acting like a stupid American. Vagrant expresses his dislike for the living embodiment of this trope by telling a story about a "retarded redneck" who tried to fight him while hitchhiking in Indiana.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Any strangeness or surrealness that he comes across will be met with indifference, although there are times that he does show genuine amusement, such as in "II - For a Few Bushes More" where he's puzzled but chuckling at a food packaging for spaghetti.
