The Altered Adventure is a Minecraft roleplay created by the Youtuber Gizzy Gazza. The first episode was uploaded on April 27, 2014. The series originally started out as a Minecraft modded survival Let's Play. However, more fictional characters were added into the series and the series evolved into a Minecraft roleplay. Altered Adventure contains 3 volumes, which have 12 episodes each.

In 2017, The Altered Adventure: Secrets of the Cyclone was published by Gizzy Gazza. It is based on the first volume of Altered Adventure without the Minecraft elements. Two more books (and possible more) are planned to be published as well.

Altered Adventure contains examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Woof wears a sash in "The Final Betrayal"
  • Action Girl: Elizabeth, who is part of King Alpha's army.
    • Gail and Jen, when they get more involved in the plot.
  • Aloof Ally: Voice in volume one. He barely interacts with Gizzy, even though he is his only companion at the time.
  • Anti-Villain: Voice has betrayed Gizzy and became his enemy. However, he has been blackmailed into betraying him and did not mean any harm.
    • Later in the series, it is revealed that Voice has been lying and indirectly harming many people. However, he has lied for his plan to slay the Demon and to save Altered, which is a heroic deed. He is also willing to die for his heroic cause, which is a virtue.
  • Artistic License: Even though it has started the story, a tornado cannot occur in the ocean.
    • Justified because it is later revealed that the tornado has been created by a Powerborn instead of by nature.
      • Or the tornado's a waterspout.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning:
    • Gail's story arc ends with her becoming Queen of Altered.
      • Downplayed because there was no formal event of her crowning.
    • When Gizzy is given the other three elements, a crown forms on his head. He becomes King of Altered.
  • Badass Normal: In a world where some characters wield magic, some characters without magic have shown impressive skills.
    • Tayren. He has formed and led an army that successfully destroyed two kingdoms. Although, there is doubt on how strong he is physically, since he has cheated in his duel against Inferno
    • Sensei. He has trained people to control their split personality and is a professional at fighting.
  • Big Bad: The Demon, who is imprisoned in the Prophecy
  • The Big Guy: The Canine, Gizzy's split personality, becomes this. In the Finale, the Canine has also grown bigger than an average-sized player.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • When Gizzy asks him how to use the morph ability, Jekyll tells him to just use the bracket keys.
    • Gizzy does this at first by talking directly to the audience in the first half of Volume 1. He stops interacting with the audience at "Jekyll and Hyde."
      • But just when you think the fourth wall has been sealed for good, Gizzy destroys it in "Friends with the Enemy"
Gizzy: It's been a long day. It's been a long couple of weeks. Maybe two years. [to himself] Two years this series has been going on...We're almost at the end. That's exciting.
  • Brought Down to Normal: If a Guardian is dethroned, they also lose their elemental powers.
    • The exception to this is Witch, who still has magic after being dethroned.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Brayden gets killed before he can tell Gizzy about the Prophecy
  • The Chessmaster: Witch, who tricks Gizzy into helping him and also manipulates other people and events for his plans.
  • The Chosen One: Gizzy, the protagonist, is frequently and explicitly referred to as "The Chosen One" destined to defeat Altered's greatest foe.
  • Classical Elements Ensemble: The Four Guardians of Altered, who each wield the elemental abilities of Air, Earth, Water, or Fire.
  • Dressed to Plunder: Bash, Cib, and Yoshi adopt the pirate fashion when they decide to play as such.
  • Elemental Nation: The Guardian's kingdoms. However, the Guardians are the only inhabitants of the kingdom, which is why they each only represent one element.
  • Elemental Powers: The Guardians of Altered wield and control the elements. If there is not a Guardian controlling an element, it will cause unbalance, or even destruction, in the universe.
    • The Guardian of Air
    • The Guardian of Earth
    • The Guardian of Water
    • The Guardian of Fire
  • Elemental Punch: Letvia in self-defense against the Package.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot:
    • Inferno. Especially during Volume 2 and Volume 3. However, this is averted when Inferno joins the heroes in the finale.
    • The Demon, who is able to shoot fire balls.
  • Evil Laugh:
    • Witch has an impressive one.
    • The Demon, although he does not laugh as much as Witch.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • The Rebellion hates powerborns.
    • Greenbloods are hunted for their skin.
    • According to Divine, calling a cyborg a "robot" is offensive
  • Figure It Out Yourself: Voice, regarding the Prophecy and Gizzy's purpose in Altered.
  • Flashback Cut: "Yandere Crypt" shows a pleasant flashback of Alpha and Jen bonding with each other.
  • The Hero: Gizzy, the protagonist, is destined to save Altered.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: The son of the king is Brayden, who was given away at birth to Divine because Alpha wanted him to have a happier life.
  • Hollywood Genetics: Letvia's family. Letvia has light blue hair, blue eyes, and pale skin, while Jekyll has brown hair, purple eyes, and tan skin. Vantor has pale skin, brown eyes, and brown hair, while Gail has pale skin, blue eyes, and brown hair. How did Vantor inherit his brown eyes, assuming that blue eyes and purple eyes are recessive genes? Why did Gail and Vantor not inherit their mother's blue hair?
    • Vantor and Gail did inherit their pale skin from their mother and brown hair from their father though. Same thing with Gail's blue eyes.
    • Letvia and Elizabeth both have blue hair, presumably because they are biologically sisters.
  • In-Series Nickname:
    • Benjamin prefers being called Benji for short.
    • Pluto calls Gail "Princess," although Gail is not fond of the name.
  • Kick the Dog: Inferno kills Cib as an additional warning towards Ratchet.
    • Voice and Alpha who ditch Ratchet after he helped them. This leads to Ratchet getting kidnapped and weakened by Shadow, which is another example of this trope.
    • Witch. He tricks Ratchet into stealing his shield, fully aware the Guardian would be caught for it. He also kills Rascal and attempts to kill Gail front of Letvia after Gail revealed that she was Letvia's daughter.
    • The Demon
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: The Demon is Inferno's father. This realization has brought conflict to Inferno
  • Modest Royalty: Although Jen is the Queen of Altered, she wears extremely casual clothes, unlike her husband.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Benji the Fairy, Divine the Cyborg
  • The Nth Doctor:
    • Gail's voice has changed when she was bitten by the Bludder Shark. Even so, her voice still changed after that bite.
    • Ratchet's voice changed when he was turned into just a voice. Only disembodied Guardians have their voices unchanged.
  • Offered the Crown: After Alpha declines becoming king again in the finale, Gizzy gives the position of Altered's rule to Gail.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Benji, whose full name is Benjamin.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Witch wears a suit, making him stand out from the rest of the characters.
  • Ship Tease: Voice and Letvia have some moments where they show a close connection towards each other.
  • The Stoic:
    • Alpha speaks in a pretty calm manner most of the time.
    • Inferno's deadpan tone to dramatic events creates some comic relief. However, he does express anger and amusement every now and then.
  • Trapped in Another World: Gizzy, Cib, Bash, and Yoshi are taken from Earth and sent to Altered. Gizzy wanting to return home is his motivation throughout the series.
  • Useless Without Powers: Letvia becomes this in the finale because she lost her water powers two episodes before it.
  • We Used to Be Friends:
    • Gizzy loses his trust of Voice when the Air Guardian betrayed him in order to get his body back
    • Witch and Voice. Although, their friendship was a bit rough even before they parted ways.
    • Alpha and Divine become this in the finale
  • Whole Episode Flashback: "Origin" takes place in the past. It shows the origin of the Guardians and the Prophecy and other events that lead to Gizzy's arrival to Altered.
