Tropes

  • Accentuate the Negative: In "Stets goes moon hunting", the song that was originally about peace and love on Earth is now about "death and death and death and death and death and death and war on the moon".
  • Adaptation Name Change: Steven to Stets, Ruby to Booby, the Cluster to the Clusterfuck, and possibly Sapphire to Fire. Downplayed as there are still some instances of the original names, like Steven's line in the Theme Tune Roll Call.
  • Alien Animals: In "Stets goes moon hunting", Amethyst finds what she thinks is a deer inside the Moon Base.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Defied in "Stets at the Gallery", wherein there's an entire sequence where Peridot makes sure Lapis is a lesbian.
Peridot: HEY LAPIS ARE YOU GAAAAY?!
    Lapis: Yeah.
    Peridot: Are you sure?
Lapis: (suddenly wearing flannel, surrounded by gay pride memorabilia and listening to "Girls Like Girls" by Hayley Kiyoko) Yeah!
  • Assurance Backfire:
    • Garnet's attempt at reassurance in "Stets gets arrested for space arson".
      Garnet: Stets, find the others.
Stets: But I don't know where they are!
Garnet: It's okay, Stets. (smiling) There's no time!
    • When Sapphire leaves her in "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", Stets reassures Ruby that he and Pearl will go and get snacks.
  • Author Appeal: Stets appears to be a Pearlmethyst shipper, considering the amount of Les Yay between Pearl and Amethyst she slips into her YTPs.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment
    • In "Grerg joins the marching band":
Grerg: See? What'd I tell ya? I may be losing my hair… (Beat. He never follows it up with "but…")
    • In "Stets Goes to Space Jail":
Crystal Gems: This won't be easy but we're not gonna do it
  • Be Yourself: Parodied in "Stets at the Gallery", where Amethyst realizes she wants to be dirt. Peridot is supportive, while for Stets it Makes Just as Much Sense in Context.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV" opens with some ribbing at the source material. The title card reads "Cry for Forever". Amethyst complains, "I don't get this cartoon, man" while watching Pearl cry on Stets' television. When the show cuts to static and Stets is mildly disappointed, she tells him "Why don't you cry about it?" as she gets up to try to fix it.
  • Black Comedy: In "Grerg joins the marching band", Greg casually states that Marty's dead.
  • The Blank: In "Stets at the Gallery", Amethyst's face is briefly edited out.
  • Blunt "No": In "Stets Goes Birdwatching", Stets refuses to "keep the harmony" between Amethyst and Pearl.
  • Butch Lesbian: Amethyst. Stets claims that she's "obsessed with gay sex", and Peridot questions why she's "pairing herself" with Pearl.
  • Calling Your Bathroom Breaks: Amethyst in "Stets at the Gallery".
Amethyst: (sigh) I'm gonna go poop.
  • Captain Obvious:
    • In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Garnet looks at a realistic leg of ham and sings "This is ham".
    • "Stets Goes Birdwatching" has a lot of this. It opens with the words "Amethyst is purple". Pearl announces "I'm gay" shortly afterward, prompting Amethyst to lampshade this trope. Amethyst then describes Opal as a stone.
    • In "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", after Rose Quartz claims that she and Pearl are "actually fucking", she tells her "I couldn't have done this on my own!"
  • Call a Smeerp a "Rabbit": Lapis and Peridot call their art installations "memes" and describe them thusly:
Peridot: You see, I have this idea. What if we made jokes, but instead of things, we used dicks?
  • Camera Abuse: In "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", the camera flies into Garnet's face and cracks.
  • Cardboard Prison: In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Pearl and Amethyst are being held in an open cell with no destabilizer field, and can probably just leave.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Everyone, but Peridot and Stets especially.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: In "Stets at the Gallery", Stets tries asking Lapis whether her "meme" of a Camp Pining Hearts character, looped to say "I feel so trapped", is referencing her imprisonment in a mirror. She firmly shuts him down before he can finish the question.
  • Credits Gag: The end credits being "I fucking love bees~"
  • Cross-Referenced Titles
    • "Stets gets arrested for space arson" and "Stets Goes to Space Jail". The latter video's description reads "probably for space arson or something", confirming the connection.
    • "Stets goes moon hunting" and "Stets Goes Birdwatching".
  • Death by Adaptation: Marty, apparently, according to Grerg.
    Steven: Who's this old dick?
    Grerg: That's my pal, Marty.
Steven: You told me about him.
Grerg: Yeah, he's dead. (smiles, followed by a Beat)
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: In "Stets at the Gallery", Peridot thinks something looks different about Amethyst. Cut back and her face is missing.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Lampshaded in "Stets gets arrested for space arson". Amethyst has Peridot tied up in her whip and is stepping on her. Peridot yells, "Touch that! You clods know what you're doing!". The unedited line ("Don't touch that! …") was about the ship's control panel.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Holo-Rose propositions Pearl in "Stets Trips on a Swordfish".
Holo-Rose: Do you wish to engage in gay sex?
  • Dramatic Thunder: Parodied in "Stets Hits Up the 7-11". Lightning strikes in the distance after Rose Quartz solemnly says:
All this life that's been growing wild here on Earth… None of it will survive my behind.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In "Grerg joins the marching band" Steven's name wasn't yet changed to Stets. This changed as of "Stets gets arrested for space arson".
  • Expo Label: For the Self-Deprecation jokes in "Stets Goes Birdwatching", Stets' face is covered with the label "a stetsuninu video".
  • Failed a Spot Check
    • In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Stets tries to find his friends and runs right past Pearl and Amethyst while looking right at them.
    • In "Stets at the Gallery", Stets inexplicably asks if he's underwater.
  • Generic Name: In "Stets Goes to Space Jail", one of the writers and storyboards on the "Will That Be All" title card is named John Joeston.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: Yellow Diamond tries to invoke this in "Stets Goes to Space Jail", telling her Pearl to simply make Blue Diamond better to stop her mourning.
  • Humongous-Headed Hammer: In "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV", Greg smashes his son with a giant hammer the size of his body, causing the theme song to abruptly stop.
  • IKEA Erotica: Invoked in "Stets Goes Birdwatching", where Amethyst's description of Pearlmethyst is "the two of us, mashed together."
  • Inherently Funny Words: Words like "memes", "elephant", and "sexcellent" are treated as such, and are repeatedly sentence-mixed.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Garnet taunts Jasper by suggesting she can't hit her. Jasper immediately throws her across the room.
  • Kicking My Own Butt: At checkers. In "Stets Goes Birdwatching", Amethyst plays checkers against herself in a possible Shout-Out to Geri's Game. She apparently makes a good move by moving a checker to the same square.
  • LGBT Awakening: Peridot seems to have had one in "Stets goes moon hunting", which she confesses to immediately after calling the Crystal Gems "queer". She deflects that anybody would be if they were stuck on the moon.
  • Lipstick Lesbian:
    • Pearl announces that she's gay in "Stets Goes Birdwatching".
    • Garnet is referred to as "Gay" in the Theme Tune Roll Call for "Grerg joins the marching band".
  • Literal Metaphor: In "Stets Trips on a Swordfish", Pearl tells Connie to keep her eyes wide, and Pearl's own eyes stretch out.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: In "Stets Hits Up the 7-11":
Rose Quartz: Look at this, Pearl! We're creating nothing!
  • Musicalis Interruptus: From the end of "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV":
Rebecca Sugar: If I could begin to be—
    Jasper: STOP SINGING!
    (Beat)
    Rebecca Sugar: Fuck you.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Sardonyx's noblewoman laugh is consistently distorted with pitch shifting.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Lapis tells Stets to stop when he offers to break her out of her cell.
  • Non-Indicative Name: "Grerg joins the marching band." Either there is no marching band, or Grerg or his manager have a strange enough idea of what a marching band is that the trope applies to that.
  • Non Sequitur: It's a YouTube Poop, so these are probably more common than not.
    • In "Stets gets arrested for space arson", Jasper tells Peridot to stop singing, even though she wasn't.
    • In "Stets goes moon hunting", the lyrics "Life and death and death and death and death and death and death and war on the moon", and "Anybody would be [queer] if they were stuck on the moon".
  • Noodle Incident: According to the Crystal Gems in "Stets Goes to Space Jail", Eazy-E is against them.
  • Opening Shout-Out: A can in "Stets at the Gallery" repeatedly his Peridot, playing the melody of the Steven Universe Theme Tune.
  • Overly Long Gag: In "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", the awkward silence between Pink Diamond and Pearl is extended to thirty seconds, with ample dead air between Grerg appearing on the screen, Pink saying "cock", and Pearl suddenly replying "Yes."
  • Potty Failure: In "Grerg joins the marching band", a young Grerg mentions this in one of his song lyrics.
But the moment that I shit myself
  • Rage Against the Author: In The Stinger of "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV", Jasper yells at Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar to stop singing.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: In "Stets Goes to Space Jail", the writers and storyboarders credited on the "Will That Be All" title card are all over the place: Coward, John Joeston, and Gengar.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Parodied. Marty was somehow Grerg's and Steven's mom, if Grerg's dialogue before starting the song is anything to go by.
  • Running Gag:
    • Editing characters to sing "I fucking love bees". While this is mainly a Credits Gag, mentions of "bees" occasionally show up elsewhere.
    • Jasper's "Stop singing!" line.
    • The Sickening "Crunch!" sound effect.
    • Replacing uses of the word "elegant" with "elephant", and "great" with "Greg".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Implied in "Stets Trips on a Swordfish" when Connie eventually closes Stets' door after breaking it, but the scene then cuts.
  • Self-Deprecation: In "Stets goes moon hunting", Stets sings, "We're making shitty music".
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: "Stets Hits Up the 7-11" suggests this about the argument between Garnet's components when Pearl says "Garnet changed nothing."
  • Shaped Like Itself: Lapis Lazuli's meme in "Stets at the Gallery".
Lapis: This is Steven. It reminds me of Steven.
Steven: (with the same face) Hey, yeah!
  • Sickening "Crunch!": A crunching sound effect is used in "Stets gets arrested for space arson" when Ruby and Sapphire embrace, and again in several later videos.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Sapphire leaves her in "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", Stets reassures Ruby that he and Pearl will go and get snacks. In the next scene, he offers Sapphire some yogurt.
  • Slow Clap: Parodied and exaggerated. Rose Quartz's reaction to Grerg's performance of "Like a Cock" is to give him a "[single evil clap]".
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Garnet takes up most of the Theme Tune Roll Call in "Stets Trips on a Swordfish".
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: In "Stets Hits Up the 7-11", Pearl calms Sapphire down by telling her:
Pearl: Garnet changed nothing. Rose wanted to fight for herself. She wanted shellfish.
Sapphire: That's just how I felt when I came here with… (gasps) Booby!
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The Moon Base's throne in "Stets goes moon hunting" is remotely detonated.
  • Sudden Anatomy: In "Stets Goes to Space Jail", Pearl pokes Holly Blue with three hands.
  • Tempting Fate: In "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV", Sardonyx is about to say it would not be hard to squish Stets between her hands. Cue Sickening "Crunch!"
  • Theme Tune Roll Call: The roll call from Steven Universe is parodied in videos such as "Greg joins the marching band" and "Stets Trips on a Swordfish".
  • Tradesnark™: "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV" has some Fun with Subtitles for "the soon-to-be Fornication Hub™."
  • Unusual Euphemism: "Stets at the Gallery" uses "exit marks" for anuses.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Garnet throws Pearl into the air and she doesn't come back down. The first time it happens, Garnet doesn't seem all that perturbed.
  • Word-Salad Humor: Constantly, in true YouTube Poop tradition. For example, in "Stets Fights Colin Firth on TV", Peridot's message consists of "SEX! — This is shit", and Sardonyx caps off a nonsensical ramble with "CORKS!"
