- Such despair! All I wanted was to see hope shine brightly once more. Now I have to star in a crappy parody of that time when I got stuck on an island with a bunch of idiots who fancied themselves as 'Ultimates'. But now's not the time to despair! Just sit back, relax, enjoy the story and stay hopeful! All Praise Hope Jesus!
Danganronpa 2 Parody 2 is an Affectionate Parody of the Visual Novel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, made by True Review as a continuation of his previous work, Danganronpa Parody.
The work can be summed up as an Abridged Series of the original novel, but based directly on the game instead of an anime, with the use ofsprite editing and fake text boxes. The parody is mostly dedicated to the lampshading of the many plot holes in thestory, as well as exaggerating most character archetypes and making fun of the plot's oddness. This installment is noticeably longer than its antecessor, with 24 parts to the previous one's six: the series's total duration is eight hours.
Spoilers for the source material will be unmarked, but spoilers for the parody itself won't.
This parody showcases examples of:
- Animal Motif: Hiyoko is commonly associated with a pig.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: After her wish for a building in fire to have sprinklers becomes true, Akane thinks that she can make things happen with her mind. Then she wishes for Nagito to be dead. Cue Nagito's corpse.
- Bait-and-Switch: Monokuma lets out an "A body has been discovered!" in Part 8 before withdrawing it with a "Nah, just kidding". Mahiru's corpse isn't discovered until the next episode.
- Bilingual Bonus: As a Bookend gag, both narrators get Hajime's name wrong and call him "Hajimemashite". In actuality, gozou hajimemashite is Japanese for "nice to meet you".
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Constantly. In fact, the first time it happens is half a minute into the story.Hajime: You know what? I think we've started too far into the story. No one's gonna understand what's going on, so let's rewind this to the beginning.
- Book Ends: The narrator calls Hajime "Hajimemashite".
- Brown Note: Sonia's attempts at singing.
- Call-Back: A lot are made to the first parody.
- Byakuya's introduction is nearly the same as before.Hajime: And you are?
Byakuya: (looks away)
Hajime: The fuck's everyone's problem? - When Nagito announces the password for the old building (11037), Hajime is tempted to shout "AN UPSIDE-DOWN NUMBER!". The best part? It's completely unprompted in its context.
- Hajime's explanation for his voice suddenly changing between episodes is "Yeah, that's because of stuff... and junk... and stuff".
- Hajime uses paperballs as physical Truth Bullets in the fifth trial. He misses twice, though, with one of them stopping dead in the air after hitting the white noise.
- Hajime forgets the names of his classmates during the final trial's climax, and the narrator (the one from the first parody, even) tells him to make up some. As a bonus, he nicknames Kazuichi "Whatsyourface", exactly as Makoto did to Byakuya.
- Byakuya's introduction is nearly the same as before.
- Comically Missing the Point: The protagonist being smarter than last time around does not mean he's not an idiot.Fuyuhiko: You know how Monomi works for the Future Foundation, and she's always fighting Monokuma? Well, maybe the enemy of our enemy is our friend.Hajime: So... we should team up with Monokuma?
- At one point, the Class Rep gets in the act.
Sonia: Wow, Gundham! Your balls of fur are amazing!Class Rep: Right! And his hamsters are pretty impressive too! - Dropped a Bridge on Him: Justified by the parody's limitations, but the Class Rep is killed offscreen by a Ctrl+Alt+Delete command.
- Epic Fail: The Class Rep somehow manages to mess up his first line.
- Evil All Along: The Class Rep.
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Mahiru's Corpse Discovery Announcement rings.Kazuichi: Yeah, no kidding! I think we've discovered a few "bodies", if you know what I mean? Ha ha. Right, Hajime? ...Wait! What!?
- Foreshadowing:
- Two endgame twists are hinted at in the message "Chiaki.exe has stopped functioning".
- The Class Rep dismisses Monomi's Rousing Speech, hinting at the fact that he's on the side of despair.
- Forgotten Fallen Friend: Monokuma acusses Sonia of masturbating the day after her boyfriend's execution.
- Funny Background Event: Several times, someone can be heard in the background saying funny things as the other characters talk.
- Man of a Thousand Voices: At least half the cast are voiced by True Review, which includes nearly all the male students and Mahiru.note
- Mythology Gag: Upon finding a bottle clearly labeled as poison, Hajime says "Well I'm betting it's not protein powder okay?", referencing the poison bottle misguidingly labeled as protein powder in the original Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.
- Nekomaru: You know, when you *CENSORED* six liters of custard *CENSORED* large handfuls of gravel *CENSORED* bus conductor *CENSORED* in an anti-clockwise motion? ...Yeah, that pretty much covers it.
- After that, the Class Rep clarifies that it's actually just a back massage.
- Plot Hole: The series goes to great lengths to point them out, and ironically enough creates a few of its own thanks to the limits of its condensed pacing: for example, Kazuichi still being in the diner during Mahiru's Corpse Discovery Announcement, when in the game he was the one who found it.
- The Reveal: Class Rep is part of AI Junko.
- Rewatch Bonus: After the series finished, True Review called for a "treasure hunt", prompting the audience to find the clues that foreshadow the Class Rep being Junko's mole throughout the series.
- Running Gag:
- "Who the fuck are you?" "Who the fuck are you?"
- Nagito's obsession with hope gets taken to new levels. "All praise Hope Jesus!" Also, the gag doesn't die with him.Hajime: [in Nagito's room] I see the words "Hope Jesus" written on the bathroom wall in shit!
- Every Monokuma File mentions "no poisons" in the COD, even in cases where that is obvious just by looking at people's wounds. When Nagito's doesn't say it, Hajime immediately assumes the cause of death is poisoning.
- A short one in parts 20-21 where everything seems to come from the supermarket.
- The Stinger: Part 5 (Hajime spending a Free Time Event with Teruteru, who tells him how cooking is similar to making love to a beautiful woman) and Part 7 (where Nagito complains about people not praying to Hope Jesus).
- Suddenly Shouting: Akane does it in the first trial.
- Tempting Fate: A lot of times, bad things happen right after someone wishes them not to happen.Hajime: What's up with this door? Well, I suppose it's nothing to take too much notice of. I mean, it's not like I'll lose three years' worth of memories if I go through it, right?
- This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: Hajime lets out a "Where's Hope Jesus now bitch!?" at Nagito's corpse.
