Bashurverse, real name Brandon Ashur, was an American YouTuber who resided in Australia. His Youtube channel was started on April 1st of 2010.
On his old channel, he would post various scripted Minecraft series such as "Legend of the Hobo" and "Bashpack", plus other series such as "Magical Modded Minecraft Morning". His avatar was represented by a humanoid watermelon, with his online persona being an eccentric-voiced and hammy individual. He would then collaborate with Sky Does Minecraft after the latter admits to liking his videos, with many other collaboration videos with Sky and many others to follow.
Controversy would arise in mid-2015 when rumors of pedophilia started cropping up, with Brandon receiving a torrent of accusing tweets and message, including of dares for Brandon to kill themself, impacting their mental health, estranging his relationship with his now-former girlfriend, and slowing down his activity on Youtube. By April 27th 2017, he would black out his YouTube account, deleting all of the videos that have been posted, along with changing the name to "—". And for a long while, that was considered the end of Bashur...
...Until September 19th 2019, where he would post a tweet on his old Twitter profile, encouraging fans to follow his new account T0astyTime. His YouTube channel revived/rebranded, along with subsequently streaming on Twitch as TOASTY. Tragically, this return would not last, as Brandon would lose his life to both pneumonia and COVID-19 on September 12th 2021.
The channel's contents feature the following tropes:
- Added Alliterative Appeal: Magical Modded Minecraft Morning.
- Black Comedy: Bashur is a watermelon man, and once you add in the fact that Minecraft features watermelon blocks (plus watermelon slices as food), you get instances such as the Watermelon Massacre video, where Bashur has to murder his own children to either get to the inmates or survive starvation.
- Black Comedy Cannibalism: Anytime Bashur has to eat his own children — that being slices of watermelon — with him being once forced to do so while starving in the depths of hell.
- Character Catchphrase: "What the balls?"
- Distinction Without a Difference: Warden Bashur's threat toward Sky after escaping his imprisonment in the Watermelon Massacre video:Bashur: I'm not gonna hurt ya! I'm just gonna beat ya till you can't breath no more!
- Plant Person: Bashur's avatar is a watermelon person, which gets played for all its worth in the various role-playing series, from treating watermelons as his own children, to vomiting up watermelon slices.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for Laughs when, in the Watermelon Massacre video, he had to mine through his own children to escape, thus dropping his abusive warden persona.Bashur: I'm not even in character anymore, cause this is traumatizing...!
- Snarky Non-Human Sidekick: Pewface plays this role to the wacky Bashur.
- Shout-Out: The Villager Innkeeper featured in Summer Bashpack, courtesy of being a mob compared to Squidward, has the same "honking" laugh as the latter.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Played as a skit in Summer Bashpack, where Bashur's usage of the Experience Potions (which in-game are "used" by throwing them, breaking on impact to spawn XP orbs) leads to Bashur crying out in pain at the glass shards ending up in his feet.
- Too Dumb to Live: Because of the Minecraft wolf's Artificial Stupidity, Pewface is prone to running into open fires unprompted to the point of being a Running Gag, subsequently getting caught on fire and suffering from the burns.
- Unfortunate Names: He names his wolf companion "Pewface", which naturally gets questioned by the animal himself at points.
- Zerg Rush: Bashur's strategy against Sky in the Pixelmon Cops-And-Robbers video is to sick a full team of Squirtle against them. They all fall one by one to Sky's Pikachu, which prompts him to blow up the wall behind him to reveal a whole room full of chests, which holds even more Squirtle.
