Web Animation / Unguru Bulan

Unguru' Bulan is a Romanian Radio and Webseries consisting of audioclips (which can be found on YouTube). The series follows the life of 4 characters:

• Frătzică^{translation note} from "Frate", brother: A man with No Indoor Voice from the northern Transylvanian county of Maramureș, who lives on Electrolizei ("Electrolysis") Street.
• Unguru'Bulan^{translation note} "The Hungarian Bulan", as a multilingual spot said: A Hungarian from Debrecen who immigrated to Romania. He is Frătzică's closest friend and a drunkard.
• Gușteru^{translation note} "the Lizard", a slightly archaic and regional term for it instead of "șopârlă": A blond-haired man and Frătzică's friend. He is also a snarky Casanova Wannabe.
• C8ilu' ^{translation note} "c-opt-ilu'": "copilu'", "the kid": A kid whose real name is Ionuț. He is mentored by Fratzică (their relationship is unclear). He is also a good troublemaker.

The series is a satire of Romanian politics, society, and current events. On December 20th, 2011 the Youtube channel also launched a series of animated clips called Luzării de pe Electrolizei ("The Losers of the Electrolizei Street", "luzăr" being a phonetic spelling of English "loser").

Unguru'Bulan contains examples of:

• A Degree in Useless: Frătzică apparently has a degree in "Music and Good Manners".
• A Dog Named "Dog": Unguru' literally means "The Hungarian" and C8ilu' is a pun on "Coptil" which is "Copil" (child) pronounced in a Transylvanian accent.
• The Alcoholic: Unguru'. He loves to drink a lot, so much so that in an episode of Luzării he ordered 2 kegs of beer, and he once used Moldovan Vodka and wine as a reason for why Romania and Moldova should reunite.
  • Frătzică and Gușteru too to a lesser extent.
• The Alleged Car: Frătzică's East German Trabant. Everyone laughs at it, its registration was more expensive than the car itself, it has to be pushed constantly, gets set on fire on a regular basis, is made out of cardboard, and requires tar instead of gas. Frătzică loves it and calls it his "White Fury".
• All Just a Dream: Jiji și străjerii lui ("Jiji [Becali] and his watchmen") starts with Frătzică watching the game between Sevilla and his favourite team, Steaua ("The Star"). As he is rejoicing, Unguru' wakes him up and tells him Steaua lost 3-1. Frătzică laments that he can't ever be happy.
• Ambiguously Related: It is unclear if "uncle" Frătzică is really C8ilu's father or not. He does not really have a good relationship with C8ilu's mother.
• Applied Mathematics: Pălincă + Caltabosh + Cremesh = Q7 ("Palinka + Haggis + Cremeschnitte = Q7"). The episode is about a man who received sausages and meat as bribes and the equation given to C8ilu' by Gușteru is a device for setting up a call to that man.
• April Fools' Plot: The seasonal April Fools episodes, which usually feature Fratzică's Trabant actually catching on fire.
• As Long as It Sounds Foreign: C8ilu's idea of Turkish is stapling "-cioglu" to every other word.
• Been There, Shaped History: In Boc vs. Frătzică, a real-life conversation between a man and then-prime minister Emil Boc is dubbed so it seems that Frătzică was that man, and that Boc was responding to what he said.
• Bestiality Is Depraved: In the episode which parodies the Bosphorus incident, the Togolese captain is asked by the news reporter why he was transporting sheep to Jordan. His answer was that since he was transporting them to Jordan, he doesn't even want to think about it.
• Big Eater: Besides drink, Unguru' also loves food. And once again, he used food as a reason for why Romania and Moldova should reunite.
• Big "NO!": Fratzică shrieks this near the end of the episode Colebilul de Paște ("The Easter Colebil").
• Boot Camp Episode: În armată ("In the army") is about Unguru' being sad that his mother sent him to the army and talking to Frătzică about it. This situation remains for a few episodes.
• Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Happens in Ambulantza cu manele ("The [sic!] ambulanse with manele"). Frătzică's old neighbour collapsed at his door, so he has called an ambulance. Sadly, none are available, as the last one left to film a (real) music video for singer Nicolae Guță. Gușteru and Unguru' are partying in said ambulance.
  Gușteru: Frătzică, man, these are fiddlers, mate, they play whatever! At weddings, baptisms, pork cuttings, grape harvests, curettages and Windows installations, mate.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens in the Nu mai râdeți, copii! ("Stop laughing, kids!") episode. After telling a few jokes despite being forbidden to, a woman calls the crew to complain. When she says that everyone can hear them on Kiss Fm on the radio, Frătzică is confused, but otherwise doesn't care.
• Captain Ersatz: Giovani Fecali is obviously a stand-in for "mafioso" Giovanni (really Ioan, "John") Becali.
• Catchphrase: Frătzică has "Am fost campion pe sate la X" ("I was village champion at X").
• Curb-Stomp Battle: Romania-Luxembourg, 100-0.
• Christmas Episode: One every year. Santa Becali with his sheep-drawn sleigh appeared at one point.
• Creator Provincialism: The creator is from Maramureș and proud of it. All of the characters use regionalisms instead of more usual swears. Examples incude "beteșig", "mețeală", and "corhaz".
• Drives Like Crazy: The truck driver in Cu Tarzan pe autostradă ("With Tarzan on the highway"), based on a real man who danced with his feet on the seat while driving in Germany.
• Early-Installment Weirdness: There is a longer edit of the first episode Erdeesh which features heavy swearing instead of the regionalisms present in virtually all other episodes.
• Eyes Out of Sight: Gușteru's hair is always covering his eyes.
• Gag Dub: The "Unguru' Dublan" series. It features Home Alone and Home Alone 2, Avatar and others.
• The Ghost: C8ilu's mother is mentioned as labouring in Italy. She is occasionally mentioned to have come to visit, but never appears in voice.
• Goofy Suit: In the Luzării episode Națl Frătzică gets a job where he has to advertise hotdogs in a hotdog suit. At the end of the episode he gets promoted and now he has to advertise shampoo in a shampoo suit.
• Gainax Ending: The episode Ignat 2: Răzbunarea ("Ignat 2: The Revenge") ends with Frătzică waking up, realizing the fact that the entire episode was, in fact, a dream, while Unguru' revealed, without saying it, the fact that the planet they live on, is really invaded by anthropomorphic pigs instead of humans, who all died, because of COVID-19, of course.^note Also because, unlike many other episodes, its setting is more different there.
• Gratuitous English: Frătzică's use of "skin of the dick".
  • Many other instances as well. A lot of the jokes consist of writing English words using Romanian letters and groups of letters that reproduce the sound in English. One example is the title itself "Luzăr" being pronounced "Loser". What adds to the humor is that, unlike English, Romanian has very strict spelling rules with very few exceptions.
• Halloween Episode: Seasonal and fairly varied.
• Haunted House: Inexplicably happens to Frătzică's house in Tzara bântuită ("The haunted country"). Lights flicker, the TV turns on its own, Frătzică's Bruce Lee painting falls to the ground etc.
• Hero's Classic Car: Frătzică's Trabant. At least that is what he wishes it to be.
• Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Frătzică sings absolutely atrociously due to the debilitating tinnitus he received after listening to Oana Zăvoranu. Thankfully, some heavy metal was enough to cure him.
• Improbably Cool Car: The eponymous Logan Police Edition. It has xenon headlamps, cobra-skin seats, a teleporter, and... it was just the representative lady taking the piss.
• Improbable Weapon User: The joke of the Atentatul cu surubelnita ("The screwdriver attack") episode, where everyone at a bank is scared shitless by a man with a screwdriver (really Gușteru).
• Ironic Juxtaposition: The premise of the "Free Gigi!" special after the man's arrest. Pious quotes about Christ are followed by extremely raunchy language:
  "Come and pray to Christ, our Emperor and God..."
  "'Cause she blows me in the morning!"
• La Résistance: The Libyan rebels from Fregata ("The Frigate").
• Licensed Game: "Elodia: The Game" is mentioned in the eponymous episode, a game about (defunct) OTV presenter Dan Diaconescu's investigations into the disappearance of Elodia.
• Luke, I Am Your Father: In one of the audio episodes Frătzică, believing that the world will end soon starts doing bad stuff thinking he won't have to suffer the consequences, one of those things including telling C8ilu' that he is actually the latter's father. After this it turns out the Apocalypse wasn't really coming and Frătzică tells C8ilu to forget what he heard. However, given the Negative Continuity of the series, it's hard to tell if Frătzică being the father apllies to any other episode.
• Metalhead: All of the 4 main characters, oddly enough.
• Musical Episode: Pepe pilotul ("Pepe the pilot"), a cover of one of Pepe's songs, about driving really fast and being stopped by the police, sang by an off-key Frătzică.
• Names to Run Away from Really Fast:
  "I am Dr. Cioclu [Undertaker], I am a surgeon."
• Negative Continuity: Nothing is really set in stone in the show.
  • The crew's wealth fluctuates between being too poor to buy salami to having enough money for plasma TVs.
  • There are episodes where Frătzică and Gușteru act as sports-commentators. They are seemingly outside normal continuity.
  • C8ilu's age is between 10 and 15 years.
  • Supernatural or science-fiction events happen at random, like the Haunted House or Unguru' being escorted by his alien friends.
  • Taken to an extreme in Electrolizei - ascunzătoare mondială ("Electrolizei - global hiding spot"). C8ilu' finds stolen weapons, ammo and explosives in the basement. Believing they are toys, he manages to make them blow up. Frătzică's house is completely destroyed, only the telephone remaining intact. Everyone somehow survives. This event is ignored in all subsequent episodes.
• Not Allowed to Grow Up: While C8ilu's age is inconsistent (it ranges from 10 to about 15), he is perpetually a child in middle or primary school.
• Not a Mask: In an episode of Luzării the main characters meet a bear. However, Frătzică thinks that the bear is just Unguru' in disguise and tries to take his mask off.
• No Indoor Voice: Frătzică is almost unable to speak at a normal volume. Lampshaded in Justițiarul zgomutului ("The vigilante of noise"):
  "I DON'T SCREAM, MAN!!!!"
• Only Known by Their Nickname: All characters are known only by their nicknames and their real names are never revealed, except for C8ilu' who's real name is Ionuț.
• Phony Degree: State institutions refuse to recognise Unguru's licentiate, which he got from the titular Spirtu Haret^note The real (phony) university's name is Spiru Haret, taken from an important Romanian mathematician and pedagogue. Possibly to avoid either a lawsuit or associations with the prestigious figure, or maybe for the sake of a Pun, Spirtu (rubbing alcohol) Haret was chosen., as it is unaccredited (and he failed his bacchalaureate). He laments that he wasted 8000 euros for his degree, and everyone calls him a sucker.
• Police Are Useless: In Viața bate bancul ("Reality beats the joke") the police get prank-called to a ludicrous degree, continuing with the protagonists' jokes for way too long. The police commander asks for the location of the invisible man and for directions to the planet Pluto.
• Prison Rape: Alluded to in the episode about Gigi Becali being sent to prison. His TV station, Becali TV, mentions a soap-picking up championship. When C8ilu' asks "What kind of sport is this?", Frătzică tells him to ignore it.
• Promotion to Parent: Frătzică is C8ilu's guardian, who calls him 'nenea', which is a polite term for uncle or a polite way to adress a much older friend in Romanian. However, it's possible that Frătzică is actually C8ilu's father.
• Running Gag: "Bus seat skin seats".
  • The blonde woman on a bike (really then-Minister of Tourism Elenea Udrea) in Balgarija - Explore the Carpathian comunism.
• Skewed Priorities: Frătzică is relieved to know that, even though his TV, computer and money were stolen, the receipts were not. This happened in Goana după bonuri ("The chase for receipts"), where new tax policies relating to receipts were parodied.
• The Slacker: Unguru's laziness is constantly mentioned by Frătzică. He doesn't want a job and is content with sitting on the couch and drinking beer all day.
• Spoof Aesop: The narration at the end of Autocarul furat ("The stolen bus"), which also counts as an example of Self-Deprecation/Boomerang Bigot:
  "The moral: Dear Romanians, the foreigner won't rob you like a Romanian does."
• Take That!: Done often towards politicians and celebrities.
• This Is My Name on Foreign: George W. Bush's name is translated in the episode about his visit to Romania: "George Tufiș".
• Trademark Favorite Food: Unguru's favorite drinks are beer, palinka (spirit made from fruit, usually plums) and vodka. Although he seems to like palinka the most he claims that his favorite drink is beer.
  • C8ilu' adores chocolate.
• Trauma Conga Line: Happens in episodes about excessive taxation or general bad luck, like Vineri 13 din nou ("Friday the 13th again"), where Frătzică's paranoia leads to not responding to those who are about to tell him that he had won the lotto.
• Unnamed Parent: C8ilu's mother (and father, unless he is "uncle" Frătzică).
• Valentine's Day Episode: The times when Unguru's girlfrined Ilonka is mentioned.
• What a Piece of Junk: Frătzică's Trabant fluctuates between needing to be pushed constantly to being amphibious or capable of reaching 300 km/h using its special palinka-fuelled engine.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: An episode features Frătzică's friend from the army who came to live with him for a while. He is never mentioned again.
