Go To

Sonic's Quest for Power is a series that follows Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, X, and Zero as they try to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds, Super Emeralds, and Master Emerald from the clutches of Sigma. The best way to describe the series? Dragon Ball Z on crack. Lots of yelling, flashy action, fists flying everywhere, and tons of swords and beams. This series isn't for the faint of heart. The whole series can be found here.

Tropes blown up by Sonic and friends:

  • Art Evolution: True Super Knuckles and Shadow look much different between Episodes 2 and 3.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Cyber Metal Sonic has instruments that give him comprehensive information in battle. He steps in when Metagen defeats Knuckles, after realizing that each time their battlefield changed, all his wounds were healed while Knuckles remained injured. Afterwards he actively stops Metagen when he tries to keep switching dimensions.
  • Big Bad: Sigma lures Eggman into his dimension to offer an evil alliance. Even when Eggman backs out, Sigma stays the course.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Tails falls under Sigma's control and becomes The Dragon.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Usually only in the logo presentations, but Episode 1 has one point where a conversation derails, because the characters realize the colors of their text keep changing.
  • Came Back Strong: The Maverick trio can't even hurt an upgraded Sonic in his base form. Once they're rebuilt by Sigma, they can go toe-to-toe with True Super Sonic and Shadow, and even force Sonic into his first advanced transformation.
  • Crossover: It's a crossover of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man X.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Dr. Light says unlocking Sonic's true potential with the upgrade capsule may have some side effects, since Sonic isn't a robot or even a cyborg. After a little experimentation, Sonic discovers the ominous-sounding "side effects" are a new ability.
  • Degraded Boss: Most of Episode 1 is spent fighting Mecha Sonic, with Sonic needing to go Hyper and use his last rings to finish him. Mecha Sonic copies are then used for The Worf Effect, with normal ones destroyed in groups and tougher ones taken out with some effort but no real trouble.
  • Demonic Possession: Sigma's intention for Sonic. Sonic is able to force him out, so he settles for trying it once he's finished killing Sonic. In the meantime, he manages to take Shadow instead, though the heroes quickly beat Sigma out of him.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Episodes 1 and 2 do not have voice acting and the dialogue is considerably sloppier.
    • However, this only applies to the Newgrounds versions. The version of Episode 2 on the now-defunct website Mobius-X did have voice acting. It ended up being removed for NG, possibly due to it being..."less than stellar".
  • Epileptic Flashing Lights: So much in the later episodes that the creator had to put a seizure warning in the description.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: When X asks why they should trust Eggman...
Sonic: Because Sigma wants world destruction. Eggman wants world domination.
  • For the Evulz: Sigma's only motivation seems to be this. He wants to destroy the world and make everyone suffer along the way for no reason other than because he is evil.
  • Hypocrite: Metagen chastises Cyber Metal Sonic for interfering in his duel with Knuckles, knowing that the fight wasn't fair in the first place. Cyber calls him out.
  • Instant Runes: The most powerful characters' most powerful attacks have these.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Sonic can summon any kind of sword he wants, but naturally goes straight for the katana, because of course he does.
  • Magic Feather: According to Dr. Light, Sonic would have naturally outgrown the need for rings or Emeralds to access his super forms in about twenty years, but circumstances force him to throw away his crutch early using the capsule.
  • Obligatory Swearing: Everyone has a much fouler mouth than in canon.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Sigma. When he thinks he's won, he happily gloats to Sonic about how he will kill everyone on Earth.
  • Out of Focus: X and Zero don't get any cool transformations and while the Sonic cast is off fighting plot-related battles, they're stuck cleaning up a bomb threat that Sigma later claims is just a distraction.
  • Power Armor: The possessed Tails fights in a suit of robot armor (represented by a Gundam).
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: True Hyper Sonic has quills as long as his entire body.
  • Rule of Cool: It's a series where Sonic crosses over with Megaman X to fight Dragon Ball Z-inspired battles while wielding swords and guns and rocking sunglasses, because why not?
  • Serial Escalation: The action gets louder, more frantic, and more dangerous for individuals with epilepsy with every episode.
  • Shout-Out: Metagen's original form is pretty clearly designed in "Sonic Character Designer", also hosted on Newgrounds.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Once his potential is unlocked by the upgrade capsule, Sonic gains an ability called "Mechanical Summon", which lets him create any metal object from thin air. These include superpowered guns, swords, and Cool Shades.
  • Super Mode: The Sonic cast has their potentials unlocked by Dr. Light, giving them "True Super" forms that don't need Emeralds or rings and are far more powerful than their standard Super forms. Sonic has the most potential of all, and gains three successively powerful forms on top of that.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Sonic's advanced transformations. He doesn't do anything particularly evil while in them, but he loses control of his anger and becomes much more ruthless in battle, to the point where he scares himself after the first time.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Metagen's Sledgehammer is a great weapon for hitting things, is an Upgrade Artifact, gives the wielder lightning powers, and lets the wielder pilot Angel Island like a flying saucer.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: When Metagen offers Knuckles his Sledgehammer after being defeated...
Knuckles: My fists will do just fine... Bitch.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: Metagen forged the Chaos and Master Emeralds in the ancient past.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: Eggman's final fate is unknown, he just vanishes from the plot. This is even lampshaded by the Where Are They Now narration.
