Mani Mani People cover picture, the Maniman.

Mani Mani People is a YouTube manga anthology channel. Set in the fictional country known as "Manihon", it mostly stars Moroboshi, but other characters can have their stories. Unlike most manga dub channels, it usually portrays strange and fantasy stories rather than romance or poetic justice.

  • Absurdly Powerful Student Council: Shiina, the school president of Mani Mani High decided on a whim that all students must wear cheongsams just because he loves traditional Chinese clothing. The school didn't object to his decision and even enforced it.
  • Actor Allusion: Niko hums the opening to Etra chan saw it!. Trina Deuhart, who voices Niko, is the main female voice actress of the aforementioned series.*
  • Almighty Janitor: Shuji was fired from his company and he decided to become a janitor at a college. One day, he found a USB containing pictures of the professors having relations with his female students. He turned the USB to the authorities leading to the professor's arrest. Shuji revealed that he used to be a police officer working in the cyber crimes division.
  • Arranged Marriage: Kazuya's parents decide to make him marry Tsubaki so he'll stop being a playboy. It later turned out that the woman who he thought was Tsubaki was actually one of Tsubaki's conjoined sisters, Sumire and Yuri. He decided to marry the twins anyway since he's spent so much time with them.
  • Artificial Human: Nagisa may seem like a normal human, but she was in fact created by some scientists to breed the perfect child.
  • Ascended Extra: My brother asked me to take care of his dog although I'm allergic to dogs… focuses on Keito Midoriyama, one of Those Two Guys who at times appear as Yakobi's friends.
  • Batter Up!: Mitsuru fitted his baseball bat with nails to beat his gambling-addicted dad after he forced his older sister to work at a hostess bar and she ended up overworking herself. When he heard the door knocking, he rushed to beat the bastard up, only to find out the man he knocked out cold wasn't his dad, but a Yakuza leader.
  • Beautiful All Along:
    • Yuna wore Opaque Nerd Glasses and is plain-looking. When her boyfriend Rikuto's bullies dared her to strip, she stripped to her bikini and it revealed her beautiful body.
    • Riko came to a forced date with Kanata, in plain clothes and glasses. During their date, Riko is revealed to be the daughter of the CEO of Manidai and the company officials dressed them both in nice clothes revealing Riko to be beautiful.
    • When Yuuya tried to punch Karen after a botched filming for a romance movie, Taichi stood in front of her and took the hit instead knocking off his glasses and revealing his handsome face. Taichi then took over the lead role since Yuuya quit.
    • Yuki and Honoka appear to be a typical nerdy couple. But after a wave hits them, by moving the hair from their face (and Honoka removing her large glasses), they are revealed to have beautiful faces much to everyone's shock. In an ironic twist, Tatsuya's girlfriend Leona turns out to be an inversion as once her makeup is washed away, she is revealed to be not-so-beautiful all along.
    • Kiyoto and Sena are respectively a nerd and a dull girl. After Aika decides to tape them together with duct tape as a punishment for losing against her team in a tennis match, they are forced to remove their clothes in order to free themselves. Revealing their attractive looks to the class. As a bonus, Kiyoto is revealed to be the genius tennis player who disappeared, Kiyoto Shirai.
  • Becoming the Mask: Shiori only decided to pretend to be Kouji's girlfriend as he's the only guy in her class who hasn't fallen for her. Making it her mission to get him to do so in order for Jinjugi to become her boyfriend as promised, to the point of moving in with him. While it's implied that she started to fall for him before she eventually succeeded in her goal, it was Kouji traveling as far as he did from home to the place of the competition just to get her uniform to her that she had forgotten that sealed it.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing:
    • Shota's father appears to be a loving husband and father. However, Shota saw a bruised woman during a video call with his father. He told his mother but she didn't believe him so Shota decided to tell Keita. In turn he tells Moroboshi and has Keita, Shota and Kazemachi disguise as delivery guys and went to where Shota's father is. Kazemachi dropped the fake cargo and saw the tortured woman. It is revealed that Shota's father has been torturing women on his "business trips" and was arrested.
    • Mio appears to be well-mannered girl as the daughter of business partner of Yamato's father, but she soon reveals to be a narcissist who demands to be treated as a princess. Worse, when Yamato prioritizes helping a lost kid over her, she tears her clothes in order to frame him for assaulting her. This ends up backfiring as the reporters from the Manimani Magazine took pictures of her in the act, causing her father's company irreversible damage to their image. Even worse as she was both a model and poster girl of said company.
    • Takefumi seemed like a nice businessman but he was in fact an deranged delinquent and he tried to hit his girlfriend Sakura with a baseball bat only to be stopped by Yuu.
    • Nanami Tazaki was known for her kindness at Mani University, but in reality she is a selfish social climber who only decided to date Keita to get close to Moroboshi. To get closer to Keita, she asked Goro to teach her how to play videogames, only for her true personality to show. After she finds out that Goro was a famous streamer, she unceremoniously dumps Keita to ask him out, but he wants nothing to do with her. Even telling Keita in the end that he dodged a bullet.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Yurios is frequently a brat who causes problems for his parents.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Kazuya had a Precocious Crush on Yuri, the lady from the flower shop. However, while she did turn him down gently, it wasn't until he overhead her mocking him in a Tuna Shop when he saw "Big Sis Yuri's" true colors. As soon as she finds out that Kazuya belonged to the Tennouji group, she tries to make amends, but the damage has already been done.
    • Kouji was in love the idol Himena. But after overhearing her referring to her fans as freaks and stating that she wished she was only around hot guys like those in her entourage, he was completely devastated to the point of tears.
  • Bullying the Disabled: Gin bullied Minato because the latter had a prosthetic arm.
  • Child Prodigy:
    • Sakuya is a genius that can memorize everything he learns and knows a lot of languages. He was able to even run a business with his father after he got fired because his boss's daughter stole his work and pull all the employees from said company.
    • Iroha is a genius from birth and felt bored in school. When Ikuya took her to the hospital, they gave her an IQ test and she passed. Akari spoiled Iroha much to Ikuya's dismay and she looked down on Ikuya because she thought he was a loser due to always wearing a tracksuit to work. Iroha was able to manipulate her mother into divorcing Ikuya and marry another man who she thought was worthy.
  • Credit Card Plot:
    • Yurios gets his hands on his dad's credit card. Thinking it was a magic card, he spends money on the card eventually getting his parents into debt.
    • Kazunari's sisters got a hold of a black card in their house. Thinking that it was Kazunari's credit card they begin to spend a lot of money on various things such as going on a vacation. Oshima came for the card, but when he saw the sisters with it, the three decided to continue spending money. Eventually the real owner of the card found out about the charges and had Sera investigate them which soon revealed them as the culprits. The police came and arrested all three at the end.
  • Conjoined Twins: Sumire and Yuri are conjoined twins. Kazuya decided to marry them both. Their father objected at first but he saw how Kazuya was serious about the marriage and relented.
  • Cyborg: Alisa lost her arms and legs in a truck accident. A company later contacted and they were replaced with cyborg parts.
  • Distinguishing Mark: Ken Oyama was born with a congenital scar, which made him nearly unapproachable in his school life. When the highschooler Yuzu gave birth to her baby, the baby was born with a scar similar to Ken's. Moriboshi hypothesized that children born with scars have a special talent, which is proven correct when Ken is gifted with an excellent swimming ability. At the end of the episode, it turned out that Yuzu cheated on her boyfriend with Ken, and the baby's scar was hereditary.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: A young boy was disowned by his parents, who were raising him to become a pilot, because "Convenience Store Worker" was visualized as his perfect job. Luckily, Moroboshi took him in afterwards.
  • Downer Ending:
    • Sano discovered a women-only island but it is led by a man. When he was captured, he was turned into a girl against his will.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: A random guy suffers this fate after King Enma of Hell sees a 60% in his forehead.
  • Fictional Country: The series is set in a fictional country named Manihon, though everything is identical to Japan except for the name.
  • Formerly Fat:
    • Mami was fat because her mother fed her 2kg of rice since she was five years old. She and her friends decided to go to the mountains to lose weight. Mami managed to lose the weight in 3 months and was able to win in the dieting competition.
    • Taka was fat and loved to eat snacks. When Miho forced him to carry her everywhere after she broke her legs, and as a result, he didn't eat any snacks as a result and became muscular.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Hinano swapped bodies with the introverted protagonist by casting a spell by running with him. At first, the protagonist hated being in Hinano's body and Hinano changed the protagonist's body look much to his dismay. With time, they got to know each other and they tried to cast the spell again to reverse it but they were not successful.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why Mako and Mao mistreat part-time workers is because of their trauma caused by their unemployed father, who often abused their mother.
  • Gamer Chick:
    • Kaho, Maki and Mina are addicted to playing a VR game called Mani Quest. They became underweight because they kept forgetting to eat. Daisuke talked to them and it is revealed that the girls had been betrayed by men and found comfort in playing video games.
    • Yuki Tanabe is addicted to playing games on her phone. When she got 1 million yen from her husband, she spent it all on gacha games. However it turns out the money was not sent by her husband but was meant for child care. Yuki refused to return the money and she was nearly arrested, but Keita paid the money and got her a job at a crab fishing boat. Yuki no longer played games after that.
  • Gender Bender: Keita gave Ritsuki and Haru pills that supposedly turns men into women. Haru took the pill and it transformed him into a woman. Ritsuki even managed to get Haru pregnant with his child. They became Happily Married and they are trying for a second child.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Mr. Suzuki was insanely jealous of Keita's popularity and later tried to kill him. He was luckily stopped and arrested due to Moroboshi's app alerting him of his intent.
  • Humiliation Conga: Two weeks after abandoning Minato in the mountains during a blizzard, Minato's mother and stepfather head back to find him after learning that he has been accepted by Moroboshi's cram school. However, when they find Minato, they are confronted by the two snow fairies who took care of him. Angered that they didn't report that he was missing or call a rescue team, the snow fairies unleash a blizzard on them. While trying to escape, Minato's mother and stepfather get caught in an avalanche and end up in the hospital after being badly injured. Later, after leaving the hospital, they both get arrested for child abandonment.
  • I Know Karate: Minami's mother was an ex-judo champion and her Establishing Character Moment is defeating several delinquents harassing a boy by tossing them.
  • Ironic Echo: At the start of "My sister, who is a genius, joined the company without knowing I was the president and.." [sic], when Yuri lost to Satomi at a game of Yakyukennote , she tried to quit but Satomi refuses and says, "You can't stop something just because you're losing. The grown-up world doesn't work that way." Later on, when Satomi is the one who keeps losing and tries to quit, the head office director of Wiper Agent retorts the same phrase at her and keeps playing until Masaya shows up to put him in his place.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude:
    • Dan was raised to be a boy in her family who lives in a patriarchal society. When her family gave birth to her brother, she was discarded and was adopted by Sonoka. Sonoka didn't realize that she was a girl until she revealed it to him.
    • Yuzuki was taken in by Shota's family after his parents left him. When Shota discovered women's underwear in Yuzuki's room, he was revealed to be a girl.
    • Yuki dressed up like a boy to practice baseball with the guys.
    • Kei was initially mistaken for a man, because of her shaggy long hair and wearing a jacket and pants. When Kazuyoshi cut her hair, she looked like a woman again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Kazuki sold the orphaned Kotaro at a second-hand market on the internet for 10 yen For the Evulz only to be adopted by seven beautiful teachers. After seeing him interviewed on TV as a genius elementary student who has just completed the 3rd grade High School curriculum, Kazuki tries to meet with them to take advantage of Kotoro's newfound fortune. However the women, seeing right through him, quickly became Sadistic Teachers towards him. Ending up breaking him completely.
    • Sakagami unfairly places Hayato on cleaning duty just because his parents' bonuses isn't high. When his parents and Moroboshi found out about this, she was fired and was forced to work for a terrible cleaning company. Essentially being on cleaning duty forever as she originally intended for Hayato.
    • As a child Satomi Ikeda used to force the other children to play Yakyuken, using her genius as justification. Upon getting a job at Wiper Agent, she is forced to play Yakyuken by the head office director knowing that her career could be affected if she refused.
      • The head office director himself has gained the nickname "Mr. Yakyuken" for using his position to force others to do what he wanted, including Satomi. After Masaya showed up and put a stop to it, "Mr. Yakyuken" would soon be demoted to regular worker as he would find himself working under Satomi, who was promoted to his old position.
    • The chef Kinoshita killed an angel simply because he was curious about hamburger steak made from an angel. After eating it, he suffered stomach pains that no doctor could figure out why because the angel's physical body was made from materials not found in this world. He eventually finds himself trapped within a hamburger steak that is destined to be eaten by one of his customers.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Shinji and his friends were put in Moroboshi's machine that puts them in a scenario where all schools disappear. The kids found it fun at first but they soon needed jobs but couldn't get any due to their lack of education. The kids appreciated schools by the end of the episode.
  • Mafia Princess: Kaede revealed that she was the mafia boss's daughter to Yuto.
  • Maid Corps: Moroboshi has several maids and they even have ranks.
  • The Matchmaker: Seira set up her father with her teacher Ms. Ayumi by drawing a disturbing picture of her father's face which prompted them to talk.
  • Meido: Niko is frequently a class A maid working for Moroboshi.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Nishizaki sees Keito and Mel note  walking arm and arm, mistaking the siblings as a couple.
  • Negative Continuity: For the most part, each story is self contained, however a few reference previous stories.
  • Not Actually His Child: In the end of this episode, Yuya discovers that his girlfriend Yuzu's baby wasn't fathered by him, but by her lover, Ken.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Tsumugi may seem dumb but she is more aware than she lets on. She pretends to be the damsel in distress to keep her younger brothers close to her. Moroboshi warned her not to interfere with their education as they are attending his elite school.
  • Otaku: Yuto was an anime and video game otaku. He was bullied for it. When the bullies forced him to go to a matchmaking party, he met Kaede who is nerdy and into the same things as him and they began to date each other even when they are revealed to be the yakuza and mafia children respectively.
  • Panty Thief: The girls' underwear kept disappearing from their room. The gym teacher was determined to find out the culprit and the class soon began to suspect each other. It turned out that the gym teacher was the culprit, after Minami caught him fiddling with something while watching the girls. He was beaten up by Minami's mother.
  • Papa Wolf: When Kenji saw his daughter Asuka coming home with a ruined backpack, he angrily went to the school to confront her bully, only to stop when he finds out that the bully was his CEO's grandson.
  • Parental Abandonment:
    • Leo was given away to a temple by his single father so he can play around with girls without Leo interfering. The priest there adopted and raised him as his own son.
    • Minato was abandoned in a snow blizzard by his mother and stepfather. They did not bother to call a rescue team for two weeks until they found out that Minato was accepted by Moroboshi's cram school. They were arrested soon after, and Minato was taken in by twin snow fairies.
    • Yuji was kicked out of the house by his mother, in favor of her new younger boyfriend.
  • Parental Neglect: Keisuke was neglected by his mother when she got back together with his father to the point where he was forced to find food from trash to survive.
  • Promotion to Parent: Kaede worked hard at her job to provide for her younger brother Mitsuru, after their father left them.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Yamato gives Mio the riot act after she begs him to marry her as a ploy to improve her family's company's image right after she tried to set him up for assault,which caused said company's downfall in the first place.:
    "Aren't you incapable of being with a guy belonging to a small-time company? You threatened an innocent guy to the point of getting him arrested, and now you're asking him to help because you're in trouble?! And to be engaged for that!? Who'd want a miserable daughter from a company that just had its stock prices crash?!
    ...
    "Our company isn't shameless enough to ask for help from a piece of scum who doesn't even apologizes for the harassment she inflicted! Don't you dare show your face in front of me again!"
  • Really Gets Around:
    • Hatsuko appears to be a sophisticated classy girl, but she secretly sleeps around. However, her secret is exposed when numbers suddenly appeared over peoples' forehead indicating the number of sexual partners one had, with hers being 27.
    • Hinano is an attractive girl and sleeps around with a lot of guys, and brags about it to her classmates.
  • Recursive Canon: Morihito and Satomi bond over watching the anime "Mani Mani People."
  • Same Character, But Different: An In-Universe example with Sasaki's little sister Yukina. The picture he shows while bragging about her depicts her with fair skin, a long Hime Cut, and an innocent smile. Come the little sister contest, when she appears she has tanned skin, dyed blonde hair in a ponytail, a lot of makeup, and a scowl. Much to everyone's shock.
  • Scars Are Ugly: Haruaki was thought of as ugly and even called a "zombie" because of the scar on his cheek, which he got as a child when his baby brother cut him with a fork in a temper tantrum.
  • Sins of the Father: Ryotaro was bullied at his school due to his father having a criminal record after being arrested for running over a drunk old man in a snowstorm.
  • Sore Loser: Sho tries to embarass Ayato by recommending him as a participant in the handsome guy contest during the school festival. However, his plans completely backfire when Ayato turned out to be really handsome and many girls who were cheering for him turned their attention to Ayato instead. After losing the contest, Sho tries to accuse Ayato of cheating, only for the girls to call him out for being such a sore loser.
  • Slumming It:
    • Aoi was forced to spend time as a homeless for a year after she lost a bet with Moroboshi and the other maids.
    • This seems to be a Running Gag in regards to friendly bets involving Moroboshi, whether it's the loser forced to live as a bum or living homeless.
  • The Starscream: Michi wants to take Azume's place as the Queen Bee of Mani Mani High and sees making her brother Moroboshi her pet as the way to do so. However, just as she thinks she's won, she soon learns what a real sadist is like compared to her as she ends up becoming a masochist. Just as Asume wanted.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: Went to a class reunion, but then…: What started as a reunion between classmates and Takeru and his friends having the last laugh over Shuto ends with Mel consoling Keita crying over their missing sister Sara.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: In a rare example where the adulterer is the protagonist in a YouTube manga channel, Yuzu cheated on her boyfriend Yuya with her lover Ken, because she couldn't tolerate her boyfriend's controlling nature and didn't have the courage to break up with him out of fear of retaliation. She hoped to break up with him by going to the same high school as Ken, only for Yuya to go to the same high school as well. She eventually breaks up with him after a paternity test that confirmed that she gave birth to Ken's child, not Yuya's.
  • Teen Pregnancy: In this episode, Yuya's girlfriend, Yuzu, is pregnant while still attending highschool.
  • Title Drop: The name "Mani" is occasionally mentioned as a company or brand.

  • Too Clever by Half: Child Prodigy Iroha thought that her father Ikuya was a loser simply because he wore a tracksuit all the time and manipulated her mother Akari to divorce him for a man she believed was better because of it. This comes back to bite her on both accounts. Turns out that Ikuya was a CEO who had being allowed to wear tracksuits to work as a condition of his accepting the promotion. And Makita, the man Iroha thought was better? Turned out to be a womanizer who showed no remorse for cheating on Akari.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: My Gym Partner is a Nerd and The prettiest girl in school had burns, but she had to wear a swimsuit both focus on the Underwater Jousting competition at S-Mani High.
  • Typecasting: Suzune Ooshima is an In-Universe example as she expresses annoyance of being cast as bad women after her role in Tasuya's movie about Reika being an elitist nurse.
  • Ugly All Along: After Yuki and Honoka were revealed to be attractive, Tatsuya and his girlfriend Leona set off into the water and much to his horror, her makeup washes away and reveals her unattractive face. After the trip to the beach ended, his buddies made fun of him for it.
  • The Un-Favourite:
    • Michiru was neglected by his parents in favor of his older brother. He tried working hard but it wasn't working and the parents decide to fully focus on Michiru's brother. He tried to buy his parent's love using money borrowed from Moroboshi, but he soon stopped and realized that his parents weren't going to change and decided to cut all ties with them.
    • Daichi was neglected by his parents in favor of his older brother Kaito because of the latter's good looks and fame. They even forced Daichi to live in the shed.
    • Leo was favored more than his younger brother Daigo because of the former's good grades by their father. Daigo was sent off to live with his grandmother by his father after he caught Daigo trying to make an anime. Daigo became successful due to sending the anime to Moroboshi's company while Leo became a shut-in due to not finding a job after graduation.
    • Masaya was given up on by his parents in favor of his sister Satomi. Much to the former's surprise, his classmate Jinguji shows up and decides to act as his coach to help him get back at her. However, when Satomi got into a top company, the boss challenges her to a game of Yakyuken, which she kept losing until Masaya showed up and revealed he was the President of the company.
  • Vandalism Backfire: Yukino and friends tried to drive Takuya away from his camping site by burning his tent. However the tent they burned turned out to be Moroboshi's, and he was inside when they did it, resulting in him going into a coma. When he woke up, Takuya told him about who started the fire, and after some investigation, Moroboshi had Yukino and her friends arrested.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In the bonus clip of this story, Keita brags to Moroboshi and Niko that he gave Ritsuko and Haru pills that turn men into women and the events that happened after. They called him out for it, since he could've ruined both of their lives.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Mafumi is afraid of blood due to an grisly accident that she witnessed.
  • Yakuza:
    • When the bullies poured beer down his shirt, it revealed Yuto's tatoos that show that he is the son of a yakuza boss. The yakuza threatened to beat up the bullies, but Yuto called them off and they ran off.
    • Junya's father is a yakuza boss pretending to be a regular factory worker. Junya found out his secret when he found him yelling at his subordinates.
  • You Have Failed Me: After failing to win the cute sister contest, Sasaki disowns Yukina for losing. However his girlfriend Iori, who is already unhappy that Sasaki didn't invite her be the MC as she is an aspiring announcer, chews him out for disowning his sister for such a petty reason and dumps him on the spot.
