Kingdumb Hearts, created by Roger van der Weide, is a Flash animation series which lampoons the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Despite poor animation and variable voice acting quality, the series is fairly well-liked due to its ironic and savvy sense of humor.

Tropes included:

  • Affectionate Parody: Sort of...In the first video Roger van der Weide said of Kingdom Hearts: "Fun game, great graphics, nice music... and retarded storyline and plot elements." Besides, if he disliked it, he wouldn't have gone to the trouble of buying the games that followed. A video he made in 2017 "dissecting" the Kingdom Hearts plot admits, "It's too fascinating and weird to hate."
  • April Fools' Day: On DeviantArt, Roger originally released Cheat Coded on April 2, 2010, and titled it as part 3 of 14 Days and 5 Min.
  • Argument of Contradictions: In the first installment of 14 Days and 5 Min, Xemnas has a brief argument of a contradictions with a couple of the other members of Organization XIII over how many members there are now in the Organization - he says 13 and they say 14. One of them tries to end the argument by calling in the The Count, but Xemnas ends it by killing one of them.
  • Art Shift: One Bored to Sleep video turns into a puppet show at the end. Another becomes a silent movie for its climax.
  • Asleep in Class: In Derp Dorp Derpence, Sora gets excited when Master Yen Sid says that he and Riku must go to sleep to complete their task, saying that this is how he completes all his exams. There's then a flashback of him in "Driver's class" where he is sleeping at his desk, then wakes up and says that he dreamt he got a license, so now he can drive, then hops in a car and wrecks it off-screen.
  • Autobots, Rock Out!: Let's Fighting Love plays during the fight against the Nobodies in Kingdumb Hearts II part 2.
  • Back from the Dead: Maleficent. Then Minnie squashed her under a door.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: "Hey Sora, we're just here, you know, chilling, looking at the landscape, and about to be battling in this huge war."
  • Butt-Monkey: Lexaeus in 14 Days and 15 Minutes. He gets killed by Xemnas so everyone will stop needling him about Organization XIII having 14 members, and later gets killed by Saix, believing Mickey Mouse is the real Lexaeus.
  • Catchphrase:
    • Sora - "Wheeee!"
    • Axel's "Eat your ice cream before it melts." which he uses to avoid certain topics of conversation. Or even when it doesn't make any sense.
  • Character Narrator: The story of "Bored to Sleep" is told by Xemnas to the Organization XIII.
  • Chirping Crickets: In the opening installment after Aladdin runs up to Sora, Donald and Goofy and rambles at them.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Sora, Axel (most of the time), and Xion when she starts taking on Sora's craziness.
  • Cut Away Gag: Some. Such as Axel trying to bond with Xemnas in the clock tower and failing spectacularly, or Xaldin's misadventures in Atlantica.
  • Dance Party Ending: Once an Episode
  • Disney Acid Sequence: One at the end of every episode. Also during load times for the proper videos, more recently.
  • Enforced Plug: Mickey delivers one during the aforementioned puppet show, interrupting his "happy song" to tell the viewers, "...if you buy all the Walt Disney Incorporated merchandise, you'll be just as happy as us!"
  • Evil Gloating: Parodied.
Haha, see Roxas, the heart is strong, but lightness can fade when darkness comes, and darkness does light and light and courage and then the heart has darkness, etc.
  • Face Palm: Donald, shortly following the chirping crickets described above
  • Fast-Forward Gag:
    • Kingdumb Hearts Final Mix bypasses the villains' speeches about darkness, courage, and light.
    • Bored to Sleep bypasses a lecture Aqua gives Venitus on friendship.
  • Faux Symbolism: Anytime a member of the Organization tries to explain something.
The heart is strong, but lightness can fade when darkness comes, and darkness brings light and courage and then the heart has darkness from the light. Do you understand now?
    No...
    Good!
  • Fusion Dance:
    • Kairi and Namine fuse in order for Kairi to escape a cage. Kairi only gains one Defense Point, but the fusion sequence does somehow pass her through the bars.
    • Sora and Roxas fuse in order for Sora to slay a crowd of Heartless. Sora gains one Magic Point, but the fusion sequence takes so long to complete, his friends manage to slay all but one Heartless.
  • Gag Sub:
    • The song that begins 14 Days and 5 Minutes is "Kingdom of Rock" by Dave Rodgers. The lyrics are made to read "Welcome to the music in Kingdumb Hearts ROCK!"
    • Bored to Sleep applies this treatment to "Moonlight Shadow," such as changing "Stars move slowly in a silvery night" to "Donalds floating in the silvery night."
  • Heroic Sacrifice / Senseless Sacrifice:
  • Honor Before Reason: In 14 Days and 5 Minutes, Demyx suggests to Saix that he should read Roxas' diary if he wants to know whether his loyalty is wavering. Saix says he can't because the pink unicorns would be ashamed of him.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Throughout "Bored to Sleep," Ventus basically just flies around from world to world asking people "Do you want to be my friend?"
  • Improbable Weapon User: Sora at one point uses an actual house key because he left the Keyblade in the Gummi Ship.
  • Knight Templar: Aqua burns with insane rage whenever she thinks someone associated with darkness is nearby.
  • Large Ham: Marluxia and Xemnas.
  • Magnetic Hero: Sora manages to have Aladdin give him his credit card within the first 10 seconds of their meeting.
  • Message in a Bottle: Selphie suggests it to Kairi. Kairi doubts it'll work, partly due to the Fridge Logic of doing it when Sora isn't even in her world, but also because of the statistical unlikeliness of him finding it even if he was. All Selphie has to (repeatedly) say is "So?"
  • Mind Screw: Part 3 of the 358/2 Days parody, oh so much. Still an hilarious Mind Screw.
  • No-Sell: In "Derp Dorp Dorpence," when Sora first encounters young Xehanort, he uses dream power to drop coconuts on him. Later, when he encounters young Xehanort again, Xehanort tries to no sell him, telling him that this won't work on him again. Sora uses dream power to turn him into a coconut.
  • Out-of-Character Moment:
    • Sora is oddly sober during the second video of Kingdumb Hearts II. Might have had something to do with The Other Darrin.
    • Same goes for Axel during the later half of the 358/2 Days parody, where he acts like the Only Sane Man who's weirded out by what's happening around him.
  • Overt Operative: In 14 Days and 5 Minutes, Roxas asks why the Organization doesn't wear more discreet clothes on missions instead of the very conspicuous black coats if they're supposed to be secret. Axel replies with another inscrutable "Darkness, light, hearts" phrase.
  • Puff of Logic: In the first parody, Riku boasts about having no heart. Goofy wonders how people with no heart can be alive. Riku, Maleficent and Kairi immediately drop dead and the Heartless puff away.
    • In Port Royal, Will defeats an undead pirate skeleton by telling it that it can't do anything without muscles. It clatters to the floor.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Saix gives Roxas a diary with a pink unicorn on the cover.
  • Running Gag:
    • 14 Days and 5 Minutes:
      • All members of Organization XIII tripping over themselves whenever Saix calls them to attention.
      • An old janitor appears whenever there's dead people to clean up, backed by sad violin music.
  • Schrödinger's Butterfly: Xehanort monologues about this in Derper Dorper Derpencer. At the end, he realizes he's a butterfly dreaming he's a man.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Saix and Larxene, of all the people, get this in the 358/2 Days parodies.
Larxene: Proposing to you for marriage, SIR!
    • Also in the 358/2 Days parodies, the Part 2 pre-loader animation hints at a pairing between Xion and a banana! This has not gone un-noticed by people who have the track for the pre-loader uploaded on YouTube.
    • Demyx composing a song for Saix.
  • Sleepyhead: As a spoof of Dream Drop Distance's Drop mechanic, Derp Dorp Derpence reveals that all Keyblade wielders fall asleep at random times.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance:
    • Xemnas introduces Roxas and Namine in 2. The soundtrack accompanying their appearances is Sephiroth's theme. Roxas is just hanging out, while Namine is reading a book and lalala-ing.
    • This Bored to Sleep music video pairs the jovial and romantic B Gata H Kei theme song with some of the most surprisingly gruesome Disney Villain demises.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Xemnas appears in alot more videos that one would think neccesary...
  • Take That!: Too many to list.
  • Trigger Phrase: In order to stop Axel from being an Axe-Crazy murderer, one just has to say "kittens".
  • The Unintelligible: Donald has a weird history with this. In the first parody, he's almost perfectly intelligible; in COM, he's more similar to his official portrayal, but the subtitles fix that; in Kingdumb Hearts II, he's so unintelligible that Sora replaces him with Uncle Scrooge and a subplot involves Donald trying to get his revenge; in Bored to Sleep, Even the Subtitler Is Stumped by Donald's quacking, but Mickey seems to understand it.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: "It has done it. And now she will do the thing, and then, what I told you about will happen to HIM, will happen to her, when it is done! Then we need to do... THE THING!" Only Xemnas and Saix get it.
  • Video Game Tutorial:
Roxas: Don't tell me, we get the boring tutorial level now.
Axel: Haha Roxas, what a silly thought. This is Square-Enix. We don't have a tutorial level, we have 500 of them!
  • Visual Pun: The Dance Party Endings have some visuals that take the lyrics literally. (e.g., "Time is racing towards us", cue Aqua racing Cogsworth.)
  • Volleying Insults: Riku and Xion just shout at each other "You're fake!" until Xion yields.
  • The Watson: We get the gist of the Organization XIII's plan and backstory in 2 because a vague Zexion-lookalike says that he's new and needs it explained, so Xemnas does.
  • What If?: KH Top 5 disney planets presents some scenarios for Disney productions that had yet to get their own worlds as of Birth By Sleep:
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Parodied.
    Larxene: I have the power of lightning! {Shoots a lightning bolt.}
    Vexen: I have the power of ice. {Freezes the entire room.}
    Xemnas: And I have the power over NOTHING! {Thrusts out his hand. Nothing happens.}

"How come you're alive?"

Maleficent arrives with a Heartless, Riku and Kairi, with Riku announcing they too are Heartless. Goofy takes this literally and as he asks this, they drop dead.

How well does it match the trope?
