Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures is an official web series that began streaming on YouTube on the official Hello Kitty channel (Sanrio's American YouTube channel) in 2020. It features several familiar characters from the franchise, as well as introducing new ones.

The series consists of 8 seasons of 12-15 episodes each, with each episode running just shy of 4 minutes, sometimes meant to just be lighthearted entertainment, but often with an accompanying moral to apply to real life situations.

The series contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Relationship Change: In Onegai My Melody, Kuromi and My Melody are rivals, with Kuromi serving in a villainous role. Here, they're good friends, with Kuromi even offering My Melody sound advice about setting boundaries being healthy for good friendships when My Melody is stressing about a mess caused by Pompompurin.
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Some of the episode titles, such as:
    • "Kuromi's Conspiracy Cruise"
      • Wherein she takes her friends to the Terrible Tropic Triangle.
    • "Badtz-Maru's Manga Mania"
    • "Kuromi's Super Spooky Special"
  • Aesop: Though not all consuming, there are occasional morals to the stories.
    • In one episode, after Pompompurin makes a mess in My Melody's home with his tacos, stressing her out, Kuromi gently informs her that it's okay for friends to set boundaries with each other, and that it can lead to healthier, better friendships.
    • Kuromi's friends point out to her that loving a sappy romance novel doesn't have to lessen her status as a "tough as nails" person.
    • In "Kuromi's Slumber Party", My Melody is trying to keep the others from learning that she still has a plushie. It turns out she wasn't the only one, as Kuromi has a couple herself. Hello Kitty tells them that it's okay to love plushies at any age, and that her own Mom has one that's the twin of her own stuffed bear.
    • In "My Melody's Bad Day pts. 1-3", My Melody sports a particularly intractable bad mood cloud that takes a good deal of effort to dissipate. However, when My Melody apologizes for it taking so long to go away, Kuromi and Hello Kitty tell her they're friends, and friends are still friends, even when they're not feeling happy. Cinnamonroll adds that bad moods are like clouds, some last longer than others, but it's okay, and it's also okay not to be happy all the time.
    • Badtz-Maru is losing a dancing game to Cinnamonroll because, as Kuromi points out, he's more focused on Cinnamonroll's performance than on having fun. Kuromi herself is keeping pace with Cinnamonroll's game merely by focusing on her own performance, but loses pace when Badtz-Maru shouts praise in her ear.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Badtz-Maru comes up and pets My Melody's ears, something that actually bothers her. Thankfully, with encouragement from Kuromi, she lets him know, and he's understanding.
  • Affectionate Nickname: "My Mel" for My Melody, particularly from Kuromi. Badtz-Maru often refers to Pompompurin as "Pompom". My Melody occasionally calls Hello Kitty just "Kitty", while Badtz-Maru will occasionally call her "HK".
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Seems to be a large reason for Kuromi's crush on Badtz-Maru, though Downplayed as he's mildly abrasive at times, and The Prankster, but not outright malicious. That said, in "Hello-Ween" she sports heart-shaped eyes seeing him dressed as a vampire.
  • And Your Reward Is Clothes: During a fantasy RPG VR game, Kuromi branches off from My Melody and Hello Kitty to collect prizes that complete her Dark Mage outfit. It turns out she wasn't just ditching them for fashion, though, as it was a legitimate case of Clothes Make the Superman.
  • Ascended Extra: Cinnamonroll, Chococat, and Pochacco were voiceless background characters in the first season before joining the main cast in the second season.
  • Badass Boast: "Night of the Living Candy", Kuromi tells Badtz-Maru and Pompompurin that "You picked the right house to be at when it all finally goes down." She also declares, "No pumped-up processed sugar is gonna take me out." while doing practice jabs.
  • Best Friend:
    • Kuromi and My Melody, a far cry from their relationship in Onegai My Melody. In "Jinx", My Melody actually calls Kuromi her best friend, and in "My Melody's Friendship Ultra Blast", Kuromi is the first to notice that My Melody is stressed and give her sound, heartfelt advice.
    • Badtz-Maru and Keropi are always hanging out together, gaming and doing various things like going to the movies together.
  • Big Damn Heroes: During an RPG session, My Melody and Hello Kitty are being pushed back into a crevice during the Boss Fight, until Kuromi, who had split from the party earlier, shows up with a complete Dark Mage outfit, which boosts her magic powers considerably.
  • Big Eater: Pompompurin will almost always be seen eating, from tacos to mashed potatoes that Badtz-Maru swapped with his ice cream, to cake, there's precious little he won't eat.
  • Birthday Episode:
    • Several, given the number of characters. Kuromi's also double as Halloween Episodes, as her birthday is Halloween.
    • Badtz-Maru's birthday is April 1st, and he loves to spend it doing April Fool's pranks. The others prank him by making him believe it's already April 2nd, leading him to a surprise party.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Kuromi loves her birthday, but she loves that it's Halloween more, as she runs the town's Halloween store and her Haunted House attraction is noted for winning awards and drawing large crowds.
  • Blue with Shock: "Kuromi's Sleepover" has My Melody trying to conceal the fact that she brought a stuffed animal with her to the titular sleepover, but her attempt to stealthily retrieve it alerted Hello Kitty who asks what the stuffed animal's name is. Since she didn't ask My Melody specifically, it causes by My Mel and Kuromi to go blue with shock as each considers herself busted, as Kuromi had not one but two stuffed animals in her bed.
  • The Cameo: Baku from Onegai My Melody is seen helping around Kuromi's store from time to time.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Kuromi would love to prove the existence of ghosts, UFOs, and other assorted oddities, though she insists on "healthy skepticism".
  • Control Freak: My Melody, of all people, turns into one when preparing a surprise party for Hello Kitty, micromanaging all of her friends on their efforts to prepare treats, arrange snacks, set up decorations, etc. Unfortunately, she forgot to organize a plan for where everyone would be when the lights went out, and there is a crash, followed by Hello Kitty stumbling onto a huge mess. Fortunately, Hello Kitty is pleased with the effort, and is just happy to spend the day with her friends.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Kuromi prefers to dress in black, loves Halloween, and has a skull motif on her clothes and house. That being said, she's generally cheerful enough, likes hanging out with her friends, and comes off more as a Perky Goth than anything else.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Nearly every character gets at least one episode to shine and show what they can do.
  • Evil Laugh: Kuromi has one as part of her image, running a Halloween store. Downplayed as she's not really evil.
  • Expressive Accessory: As in Onegai My Melody, the pink skull on Kuromi's jester cap reflects her moods.
  • Eyelid Pull Taunt: Kuromi's go-to insult when she's mad at someone.
  • Fearless Fool: Kuromi once deliberately steered a cruise ship into the "Terrible Tropic Triangle", after having stated that ships go in but don't come out, just to say she's been there. That being said, she does have a fear of heights, but even then she was still willing to mount a flying broom despite that fear.
  • Friendship Moment:
    • "Kuromi's Bad Day". Hello Kitty sees a storm cloud over Kuromi's head and offers her a milk and donut "on the house." Kuromi is delighted, saying, "Look at you, brightening my day." The storm cloud over her head suddenly thunders and rains down a pile of licorice flavored candy, which Kuromi says is her gift to Hello Kitty.
    • "Jinx". My Melody puts a jinx on Kuromi, telling her she can't speak until she gets her a soda. Kuromi goes all over town trying to get one, but refuses to speak until she's obtained the soda so no one knows what it is she's doing, except Badtz-Maru, who chugs an orange soda in front of her telling her he's now out. He was kidding, but she left in frustration before he could explain that. However, My Melody shows up and gives Kuromi an orange soda to give to her, and a grape soda for Kuromi herself, saying, "It's no fun having your friends around if you can't talk to them."
    • My Melody is feeling down that they're deep in winter but haven't had any snow. So Hello Kitty convinces all of My Melody's friends to help her create a Snow Day for My Melody, though Badtz-Maru bows out after deciding that the water-balloons serving as snowballs are too cold for that time of year.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Chococat has invented a machine to make people Trapped in TV Land, built a time machine after declaring it impossible, and outfitted a cruise ship with wings and thrusters to escape an Eldritch Location.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Kuromi sports a pair when Piano and a frog girl find the figure she's been hunting for all episode. Downplayed as Kuromi then politely, if a bit desperately, asks them to trade the dozens of Empress figures she's acquired for the "Wandering Servant " they have, to which they agree
  • Halloween Episode: A few, all of which double as Kuromi's birthday, but she herself considers Halloween to be a bigger deal, as she once gets out of bed saying, "Happy birthday to me, but more importantly... HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"
  • Holding in Laughter: Hello Kitty stumbles into a huge mess that was caused when her friends turned off the lights to do a Surprise Party, and at first they thought she was crying at the mess, but she was actually holding back laughter after seeing the lengths they'd gone to for her.
  • Humiliating Wager: Badtz-Maru dares Kuromi to do "everything pumpkin" for a whole day, and she counters that if she does so, he has to do whatever dare she comes up with. He agrees to the terms, and Kuromi lives up to it, having made an outfit out of pumpkin, making a series of pumpkin flavored dishes and drinks, and even making a house out of a giant pumpkin. When Badtz-Maru acknowledges that Kuromi did live up to her end, she makes him spend the next day doing everything in a celery motif.
  • Imagine Spot: "Kuromi's Bad Day". Kuromi has several when she wakes up in a foul mood, imagining herself doing various mean-spirited things to her various friends, like speeding by a napping Pompompurin fast enough to tangle him in his hammock, trying to scare Keropi with her scooter, driving through Badtz-Maru's drum set, and flattening a field of flowers that My Melody was picking. Proving that Dark Is Not Evil, she doesn't actually do any of those things, driving slowly past Pompom, stopping for Keropi to cross the road, doing the same for Badtz-Maru, and settling for a Eyelid Pull Taunt with My Melody, to which Melody cheerfully replies, "That girl has got to get to bed on time."
  • Jerkass with a Heart of Gold: Badtz-Maru can be abrasive at times, but when it looks like Kuromi's favorite film is going to be canceled because not enough tickets sold, Badtz-Maru secretly buys up all the seats in the theater, restoring Kuromi's film to it's proper place, and then invites all of Kuromi's friends to see it with her. He denies doing this when Keropi asks, of course.
  • Locked in a Room: "Kuromi's Escape Room" sees Kuromi and My Melody locked in Kuromi's shop after My Melody accidentally shut the door with wet paint on it. Kuromi is desperate to get out, as she'd planned a special day with her mother and didn't want to miss it. Unfortunately, her cell phone is missing and Melody's is out of power.
  • Magnificent Bastard: In-Universe Kuromi tries inviting the guys to come to a K-Pop concert, only for them to turn her down, saying they were planning their water balloon championship for the same time. Kuromi leaves her player behind, and they guys hear the music. They turn up at the concert, and Badtz-Maru return's Kuromi's player to her, telling her she should be more careful where she leaves it. She grins, then says, "Should I?", suggesting she left it behind on purpose so the guys would hear and come to love the music, too.
  • Meaningful Gift:
    • Kuromi spends all of one episode trying to get a particular prize from a kids meal at a local restaurant. When she finally obtains it, she gives it to My Melody, because My Melody had lost her own to an accident the year before.
    • Hello Kitty's trademark bow was a gift from her mother.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Kuromi has a multi tool she wields like a weapon in tense situations, which has a spaghetti fork, a spatula, a whisk, and a scrub brush. She has pulled it in "Night of the Living Candy" and "Kuromi's Ghost Adventure", and takes out a water balloon in "Kuromi's K-pop Drop pt. 2".
  • Niceness Denial: When Kuromi and Badtz-Maru enter a video game tournament without Keropi, it's because they plan to use their winnings to give Keropi a copy of the game so he can play with them. Kuromi, in particular, tells Keropi not to mention it to anyone, as she wants to maintain her tough girl reputation.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Implied with Kuromi when she's complaining about My Melody's decorations for her fun house.
Kuromi: This is a nightmare, and not the good kind.
  • "Not How I'm Dying" Declaration: "Night of the Living Candy" has Pompompurin saying he smells taffy and fears that the "taffy zombies" from their tabletop game have come out of their imaginations to get them. Kuromi goes to grab her Mix-and-Match Weapon, calmly saying, "No pumped-up processed sugar is gonna take me out."
  • Parental Bonus: Many of the Shout Outs are to '80s cinema, such as Ghostbusters (1984) , Die Hard, Scarface (1983), and even Back to the Future, films that are over thirty to forty years old, making it almost Grandparental Bonus.
  • Paying It Forward: When Kuromi was feeling down in "Kuromi's Bad Day", Hello Kitty lifted her mood by giving her a donut "on the house". Later, when My Melody is in a bad mood, Kuromi, inspired by Hello Kitty's act of kindness, offers donuts to My Melody and Hello Kitty. And when that doesn't work, she and Hello Kitty spend the whole day with My Melody to lift her spirits.
  • Perky Goth: Kuromi's personality in the series. She dresses in black, has a skull motif on her outfit and house, and is obsessed with Halloween, to the point that even though it's her birthday, that takes a backseat to the holiday for her. That being said, she's cheerful, friendly, and will participate in various activities with her friends without complaint.
  • Personal Raincloud:
    • "Kuromi's Bad Day" has Kuromi wake to find a storm cloud over her head, and lamenting that she woke up in a "bad mood" and that the day was going to stink "like zombie garlic breath". When My Melody sees the cloud, she notes "That girl needs to get to bed on time." When Hello Kitty sees the storm cloud, she offers Kuromi a milk and a donut "on the house", which brightens Kuromi's day considerably. The storm cloud thunders, then dissipates as it rains down a pile of candy on Hello Kitty's counter. Hello Kitty noted cheerfully that Kuromi's "mood" tasted like licorice.
    • "My Melody's Bad Day pts. 1-3" see My Melody with a red cloud that proves far more intractable than Kuromi's was, though it does eventually go away and Pompompurin says it tastes like strawberries.
  • Precocious Crush: Kuromi has one on Badtz-Maru.
  • Renaissance Fair: One episode sees the town holding a Ren-Faire, and it's noted that Hello Kitty is always the one to win by staying in character the longest. Badtz-Maru and Keropi attend the Faire as travelers from the future, irritating Kuromi, who asks Chococat to look up if they're breaking the rules. Chococat says that the rules don't specify a time period, just staying in character. Kuromi then works to force Badtz and Keropi to break character. She does as well in the process, but declares itw as Worth It. Hello Kitty takes the prize again.
  • Scare 'Em Straight: Kuromi as the "Night Librarian" visits Badtz-Maru and Keropi for not returning library books and reshelving books incorrectly respectively.
  • Scary Librarian: Kuromi's alter-ego, "The Night Librarian", an Evil Sounds Raspy Batman Expy, who tracks down overdue books and people who reshelve incorrectly, often while giving a creepy "Shhhh!"
  • Scenery Censor: Not for nudity, but for Hello Kitty's unadorned head when a bird snatches her trademark bow.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Badtz-Maru, when Trapped in TV Land, decides to make a break for it when Kuromi shows up with vampire fangs. "I'm off the menu!" In the same episode, Kuromi tries to cut the scene short when she finds out she's in a musical. "I'm leaving before anyone makes me sing show tunes."
    • In "The Beanstalk" My Melody tries climbing the titular stalk to gather the "giant beans", only for the thudding of "The Giant" note  causes her to back down saying, "Nope."
  • Serious Business:
    • "The Night Librarian", aka Kuromi, calls out Badtz-Maru for failing to return books to the library, and Keropi for reshelving a book in the wrong place.
    • My Melody really hates messes, to the point that she stresses when Pompompurin starts consuming messy tacos without a plate. Kuromi gently tells her it's important to set boundaries with your friends.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shown Their Work: "My Melody's Plush One". While walking in the snow covered woods, Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi come across a series of tracks. My Melody worries that they're bear tracks, but Kuromi correctly points out that bear tracks have five toe prints, while the ones they've found only have four. (They turn out to be Yeti prints)
  • Skewed Priorities: Kuromi's birthday is October 31st. She isn't a Birthday Hater, but she does consider Halloween to be more important, by her own words in "Hello-Ween ".
  • The Smart Guy: Chococat serves as the brains of the group and is frequently seen trying to solve problems and sometimes acting like a detective.
  • Stable Time Loop: "Back to My Friends" from Season 6 reveals that events from Seaons 1 & 2, such as Kuromi's Halloween decorations going missing in "Hello-Ween", her bad mood (as well as the cloud being full of jelly beans) in "Kuromi's Bad Mood", and Hello Kitty's bow being taken by a bird were caused by Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and My Melody being sent back in time by Chococat's new time machine and having to put it back together.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Piano the sheep (aka "My Sweet Piano" and "Piano-chan") is heard speaking in the season 2 episode "Cinnamoroll's Dance Craze". However she reverted back to communicating by bleating in the episode "Kuromi's Girls' Day Toy Hunt" when she was invited to Kuromi and My Melody's "Girls' Day Party".
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Kuromi is the "tough as nails" tomboy to My Melody and Hello Kitty. That being said...
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Kuromi may like riding around on her scooter, dressing in black, and all things Halloween, but she also loves hot pink, has a pair of bat plushies, and loves a sugary sweet romance novel.
  • Trapped in TV Land: "Kuromi's Movie Madness pts. 1 & 2" see Kuromi, My Melody, and Badtz-Maru transported into the world of movies by Chococat's invention. They go through several genre films, including film noir, musicals, and a silent film.
  • True Companions: The whole cast. Even when one character is the focus of the episode, many will feature the whole gang gathered together to have fun.
  • Vague Age: The characters work at jobs, Kuromi has a scooter she drives, and they all seem to each live on their own, but they also have slumber parties, order kids meals, and do various activities that would largely be considered more youth oriented.
  • Visual Pun: When Hello Kitty lifts Kuromi's spirits, her Personal Raincloud rains jelly beans on the countertop. She went from being in a bad mood to being "full of beans". note
  • What Would X Do?: Kuromi, suffering from a fear of heights at a water park, is surprised to find that some of her more timid friends already tried the attraction in question by asking themselves what Kuromi would do. She quickly decides that she can't have them being better versions of her than she is.
  • Worth It: Kuromi's response after breaking character at a Ren-Faire, as she was trying to deal with one of Badtz-Maru's pranks.
