Tropico: From Pirate Era to Colonial Era
- The island eventually named Tropico was an independent pirate haven from 1650-1748. It was acquired as a Spanish colony during the War of Jenkins' Ear, after which it was flooded with Spanish immigrants—these immigrants form the ancestors of today's native Tropicans. "The Crown" seized Tropico during a later conflict (possibly the Seven Years' War or Napoleonic Wars), and held control until the end of the Colonial Era in the late nineteenth century. There are rumors of a family connection between Tropico's current presidential dynasty and the islands' original pirate king.
