WMG / The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge

Go To

Oogie Boogie killed Jewel.
An in-universe explanation for the absence of Jewel, Dr. Finkelstein's wife, whom he made at the end of the film. In the video game, Jewel is nowhere to be seen, Sally is living again with Dr. Finkelstein and Dr. Finkelstein's brain is intact instead of divided in half (as the other half was given to Jewel). What happened to her? Easy, Oogie possibly killed her and got her brain half back with the other half.
  • Possibly, it was in part of Jewel's death at the hands of Oogie that Sally came back to living with Dr. Finkelstein. Perhaps he was mentally devastated and Sally opted to come back to him to make him company. After all, he created her and while he insisted on locking her up to protect her, he still appreciated her in some way.
  • However, there are no specific reasons for why Oogie would kill Dr. Finkelstein's wife, as she was seen as relatively harmless in the original film, or at least that how we saw her. Aside, Dr. Finkelstein is still intelligent without the other half of his brain, so it would be unnecessary for Oogie to get Jewel's half back and reunite it with Finkelstein's half.
    • If Oogie killed Jewel, however, Finkelstein could have got back the other half of his brain for himself, possibly to not waste it, as he could give it more use instead of letting it rot away.
    • Maybe, instead of being Oogie's fault, the reason for which Jewel no longer lives with Dr. Finkelstein was because he became overprotective to her, much like he was with Sally in the film. Possibly Jewel got enough and left him. However, that doesn't explain why Finklestein got the other half of his brain back, as Jewel would surely need that half to live.
  • Maybe Oogie stole both halves of Finkelstein's brain after giving him the new one because if Jewel still had her half she would be smart enough to help Jack stop him. And then if her body is still around there's a chance Finkelstein could resurrect her by giving her the other half of his brain again.

Lock, Shock and Barrel will be finally given a punishment.
This always bugged me in the original film. While is clearly evident that Lock, Shock and Barrel were responsible to nearly get Santa Claus killed by Oogie (and they were the only ones who could have brought Santa to Oogie as all the town feared him), they never received any punishment for their actions and Jack simply allowed them to remain living in Halloweentown (although he could have possibly forgiven them for bringing the Mayor to rescue him and Sally). However, in the video game, after they resurrect Oogie and then throw Jack into a hole to face Oogie's shadow, they are never seen again. Given that Oogie caused more destruction due their fault, it's safe to assume that once Jack restored peace and order in Halloweentown, he will make them face a severe punishment for their recklessness and lack of moral sense.
  • It that comes to happen, we don't know which kind of punishment would be, but it's possible that Lock, Shock and Barrel would be likely exiled, as Jack isn't a ruthless ruler and would not opt for execution. He isn't that cruel. Personally, I think that they deserve execution for nearly getting Santa killed.
  • Or simply they reformed back. This is what most fans assume. Whether their reformation will now be permanent or not, it's beyond anyone's speculation...
Oogie Boogie can still return
In the original film, we assumed that Oogie was destroyed once his "brain bug" was squished by Santa Claus. In this video game, however, Lock, Shock and Barrel resurrect Oogie from the dead through unknown means and he gathers many more bugs than before even though his main bug had previously being killed. And don't come to the conclusion that it was other Oogie Boogie created with other bugs, as Oogie still mantains his memories from the events of the original film. If not, he could have other goals than trying to have his revenge against Jack and Santa.
  • Perhaps the "brain bug" from the original film didn't actually die after all. Yeah, Santa squished him, but maybe instead of killing him, Santa just severely injured him to the point he couldn't make his way off his hideout yet he survived. By the time of the game's events, the bug may have been healed by Lock, Shock and Barrel, which explains why Oogie still mantains his memories. Unlikely, as the bug's squishment was really hard, but still a possibility...
  • If this means that as long bugs exist Oogie Boogie will always return if Lock, Shock and Barrel are there to bring him back, then just hunt down all bugs into extinction. Result? No more Oogie.
    • I know that insects are important for life, but we're speaking about Halloweentown, a pocket dimension. Their trees don't have leafs, there's no vegetation, etc. They just aren't necessary there. Here on the real world, they are, but there, they pose a danger.
  • There's also the fact that his own shadow may still very much be around too. Sure, it may explode after being defeated by Jack (again) but still, as an "incorporeal" being, he could just wait for the right time to make his return. Heck, he may had helped Lock, Shock and Barrel to find the bugs necessary enough to rebuild his "nobody" again. Plus, Oogie's Shadow also has a role to fill in the festivities (as the shadow on the moon at night, giving people dreams with the brim of fright). Him being "dead" for too long and who else would do his job?
