WMG / The Council

Go To

Lord Mortimer probably had something to do with the death of King Louis XVI.

The game takes place in the same year Louis XVI was guillotined and Lord Mortimer is apparently supporting Napoleon, who did not come to power until 1799 (six years after the events of the game) by helping to arrange cannons for him. It would make sense that he would want to replace the monarch with someone over whom Mortimer had better control.

  • Mortimer explicitly tells Louis that the French Revolution was proposed at a previous Council.

Emily's dress is designed specifically for the conference and doesn't reflect her normal wardrobe.

The letters in the duchess's room indicate she has had personal dealing with the queen. Given that Emily's dress consists of a corset and a detachable skirt, this is the historic equivalent of visiting the queen in a bikini. However, being on an island where she has to negotiate politically, it makes sense that she might use her sexual appeal more overtly and have a dress made for that purpose. This would explain why her clothing isn't what a woman of her standing would normally wear in court; it's intended to distract the men at the conference so that she can better manipulate them.
