Eric Camden controls Glenoak.
In many instances throughout the series, Eric has a tendency to pull an Easy Evangelism angle on people, even (and especially) when they're combative at first. The people of Glenoak, including the police chief, appear to have no issue with him whatsoever. In fact, the townsfolk praise him frequently as a preacher, sometimes bordering on Informed Ability. those who do have a problem are portrayed as straw losers who are beneath everyone else. In the case of the police, they even give Eric confidential information that would normally not be given out to civilians. Why? Because Eric, in some way or another, secretly controls Glenoak and keeps tabs on everyone who lives in the town. Anyone who doesn't follow Eric's rules gets treated badly or never seen again because Eric has the police force them out of town. Could also explain why Simon basically gets off the hook for committing vehicular manslaughter.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WMG/SeventhHeaven
