     General plot
Over their two years of training, Zoro and Mihawk will develop a father-son love, which will horribly complicate Zoro's plans to defeat him and claim his title
Because, you know, it's kinda hard for any sane person to deliberately hurt someone they're close to. Plus, it would be delicious irony for Zoro to end up caring for the person he was aiming to defeat for so long. Extra points if Mihawk ends up getting Killed Off for Real and this becomes part of Zoro getting a new motivation for getting stronger.

The Skypieans are descended from the ancient kingdom of the Void Century, Eneru is not.
Both the Shandians and Skypians have small wings on their backs. In chapter 287, its shown that the Shandians had these wings before they left the blue seas, indicating that they're related to the Skypieans from long ago. Because they were an isolated civilization whose entire purpose was to guard one the Poneglyph tablets, its likely the Shandians are descendents of the lost kingdom. Thus, wings are probably a trait from that kingdom.Eneru has no wings, so he is neither Skypiean nor Shandian. Maybe the descendant of pirates/explorers?
  • Actually, its been confirmed that Eneru's ancestors are from the moon. Explains a few things, don't it?

The Rumbar Pirates were wiped out by the Kuja Pirates.
When that chapter of Brook's past was originally published, I wondered what kind of pirate crew would use archery. Well lo and behold, not fifty chapters later we were introduced to an entire island and pirate crew that used archery as their primary weaponry, an especially fearsome one at that. I suppose the only way this would get confirmed or denied for sure is if the Straw Hats ever revisit Amazon Lily after they're reunited.
  • Quite unlikely as the Kuja pirates are probably relatively new, and that the Rumbar's died well, half a century ago.
  • And the Kuja, being Proud Warrior Race Gals, don't strike me as the type to use poisoned arrows over Haki-enhanced arrows. And Haki-enhanced arrows, as we saw, make things explode.

Finding the One Piece will not be the end of the series
Just the beginning of the final Story Arc. Whitebeard said that it being found will start a battle that engulfs the entire world, and why would the story end just as it was starting?
  • I think he means the battle will be to crown the next Pirate King, or stopping it.
  • This editor thinks that the final battle will take place afterwards, piecing together a few things. First, that Blackbeard is meant to be the anti-Luffy and his crew are the anti-Straw Hats, so the battle over One Piece will take place against them, but another high-stakes battle needs to take place outside of that: the clash with the Admirals and Shichibukai, namely in that Luffy has to avenge Ace against Akainu at some point and Zoro needs his final defeat of Mihawk. Zoro's point is critical, because his fight with Mihawk should occur last of all, so in this line of thinking it would make sense to have a "Versus Blackbeard for control of One Piece" fight, then a "Versus World Government" final bout.
  • lets not forget, sanji hasnt seen the real all blue yet! and Robin still hasnt found the Rio Poneglyph, nami hasent drawn a map of the world! oh and brook still hasnt seen Laboon!!
  • Y'know, a good while back, I actually had a dream where Luffy and Blackbeard were slugging it out with one another in the middle of a dirt arena of sorts, with various characters sitting on the sidelines giving running commentary. Despite Blackbeard having the power of his Dark-Dark Fruit and Whitebeard's Quake-Quake Fruit at his disposal, he and Luffy were evenly matched, at one point reduced to trading physical blows with each other in a "you-hit-me-I-hit-you" sort of way. It might be going out on a limb to say that my dream was Foreshadowing, but...I've had dreams that actually came true in times past, so who's to say, right?

We will never know what the titular "One Piece" really is.
Given Oda's awesomely trollish tendencies, it seem to me that his entire M.O. is about slowly building up to the Thousand Sunny nearly getting shipwrecked in a storm, having that island being Raftel and Luffy being the only one to go in/out and as he returns to the ship. He dies (cut off short thanks to Iva's hormones and Gear Second) and takes the secret of what One Piece is with him, as the rest of the crew leave without ever finding out what it is. Cue an After-Action Report sort of epilogue resolving the rest of the crew's respective storylines and you've got something that not only wraps everything up nicely, but also leaves the reader with the ability to interpret the treasure as they see fit. This seems to make a bit of sense in a series that seems to put an emphasis on the fact that everyone treasures everything different. If One Piece were to end like that after twenty/thirty years, I'd totally buy that.
  • It's certainly a more serious guess than One Piece being a dress or Rouge's bathing suit or Luffy's hat or friendship/adventure/true companions/whathaveyou, that's for sure.
  • This is arguably Jossed by a recent interview with Oda. Specifically, he said that One Piece is actually something (ie, not friendship or anything intangible like that) and he wouldn't have the Straw Hats go through all that and not get any reward. That combined with Whitebeard's proclamation that the discovery of One Piece would lead to a world war very strongly suggest that we'll find out what it is at some point.

The World Government already has a replacement for Moriah, and Maineford was a test for him.
As seen in Chapter 581, Doflamingo, Kuma, and some other Pacifistas assault Moriah, telling him he's no longer required as a Warlord of the Sea . Probably because of his loss to Luffy, his lazy nature, which probably got in the way of his duties and the fact he was building a zombie army, which Kuma probably told them about. I think it was even foreshadowed that he was still remain one "for the time being". Maineford was a test to see if Moriah could still get the job done, and he could not. So, they pulled the trigger, and we'll probably see his replacement soon, probably a new character.
  • Moria escapes.

One of the lesser WB Commanders or allies will pull a Face–Heel Turn to the WG
Due to most of them all surviving, it seems even they were background characters they are tough. Maybe one was tougher they they looked, and kicked some major [bottom] off-screen and decides that Marco isn't going to get the job done, and they become a Shichi. That Jack Sparrow-looking guy with the Zoan-infused Ball-and-Chain seems like a good guess.

The thing that sucked up Capone's ship was...
  • 1. The moon people. Eneru's coming back, baby.
    • 1A. Alternatively, Eneru could have been on the island Urouge had gone to; the place was spilling lightning. Though your theory sounds more plausible.
    • 1B. Or both were just bizarre nature conditions like seen on the Grand Line only moreso to signfy how worse the New World is.
  • 2. Jewelry Bonney. Obviously she's in love with them because opposites attract. But instead on revealing her feelings, she'll choose to rob him to make sure her heart isn't broken.
    • Doesn't seem to be as of Chapter 595.
  • 3. Kidd. He has magnetic powers, the shipwould probably be affected. Not to mention the metal in Bege's body. The people Kidd impaled here probably members of Bege's crew. The fact that their event happened before Kidd's is irrelevant.
    • That was just probably a random crew.
  • 4. Blackbeard.
    • That's depressing. He would end up going through the Supernova. Their whole purpose in the story would ultimately be for his power.
      • But that can't be right. He was negotiating hostages with Bonney at the time.
  • 5. The Kraken, duh. The story takes place largely on the ocean, so it was bound to show up eventually. It just resides in the New World is all.
    • More evidence for the Kraken as of chapter 604.
      • Actually, it's rather strong evidence against it. The Kraken lives at the bottom of the ocean floor under the Red Line, not up in the sky.
  • 6. Shiki's Island Ship.

Every supposedly dead character in the Backstory will turn up in the New World
  • Let's see: that's Nico Olvia, Kuina, Sabo, and Captain Yorki, for starters. Did I miss anyone?
    • Didn't they show Kuina having a funeral?
      • In the manga they showed her body... so don't count Kuina.
      • And exactly how old would Yorki be by now?
      • Gotta be a decade or two away from 100, I would assume. And people in the One Piece world live to be around 140. Alternative theory: their ghosts reside there, and the Strawhats will have to get through them to overcome their personal demons and get through the New World.
      • Kureha's age may be an outlier. More normal people in the One Piece world probably live to more normal ages.
      • Nope. There's an SBS in which Oda states that the normal human lifespan in his world is 130. Kureha is superhuman because she's that old and shows no signs of keeling over anytime soon.
    • Sabo confirmed

We will have an Elbalf Arc
Fairly simple, as we know it's one of Usopp's dreams, it's been said to be the Land of Warriors, and they will have Oimo and Kashii there to be Mr. Exposition like Hachi was for Shabondy. Not sure who the villain would be. Maybe a corrupt Giant noble.
  • Maybe the corrupt giant will be BIG MOM

If fire is beaten by magma...
Because Magma is hotter...what's hotter than magma? Oh...lightning? Very unlikely because Eneru's accomplished his dream, he has his subjects and his kingdom, no reason to return to the world. But still, this is WMG...
  • It would be an epic way for him to return to Earth. Think about it-the Straw Hats, beaten to near death by Akainu, when suddenly...
Akainu: You lose, Straw Hats, and there's not a damn thing you can-
    FWBLAM!
Eneru: Guess who's back. Back again.
  • That magma is hotter than fire thing still sounds stupid to me. Magma is 1300C (slightly hotter than a Charcoal flame.) Fire can vary in temperature from 400C (Cool flame) to 5726.85C (Dicyanoacetylene Ozone fire)

one of the arc's in New World will be against Shiki
Why Shiki was mentioned in the manga? mybe because he will appear in it. The events of the movie will be re written to make an arc in new world...and Billy will join the crew.

The "straw hat" Madame Shirley saw is either...
A. van der Decken. As we saw on his quasi-bounty poster, he wears a rather similar hat. But, the neck isn't quite as similar.

B. Caribou, in revenge for his comedic humiliations, plans to use his mud powers in conjunction with the water all around Fishman Island to flood it and to try and pulls a page of Demalo Black's book and masquerades as Luffy to discredit him, probably with mud shapeshifting. But, he still will not be the Big Bad for the Arc, mind you.

Alternatively, C. It would be Luffy. It just hadn't happened yet.

One Piece will end with Luffy dying and the Strawhats disbanding, mirroring Gold Roger and his crew
As stated in the manga, using Gear Second and the Hormones will shorten Luffy's life. Chopper will discover this and gravely inform Luffy that he will die soon as they near Raftel. After a final confrontation with Blackbeard, they will land on Raftel and something significant and meaningful will occur, but this theory doesn't cover that part. However, having achieved his goal, Luffy will then turn himself in to the Marines just like Roger, specifically Coby, who will by then be a Vice Admiral or even an Admiral. He will then be sent to Loguetown for his execution where he will be executed on the same platform where Gold Roger died. Then, right as he is about to die, he'll repeat Roger's final words: "My wealth and treasures? If you want it, I'll let you have it. Look for it, I left it all in that place." He will then be executed and start the 3rd Great Age of Piracy. The end. Montage of secondary characters they met along the way optional.

The Final Battle will be fought at Loguetown
This ties in to the theory that the finding of One Piece will not be the end of the manga, and the idea that Blackbeard is meant to be the anti-Luffy. Blackbeard will serve as the Final Boss for the series with a climactic showdown on Raftel, but then after the Straw Hats finish their business at Raftel (namely the fulfillment of Robin and Sanji's dreams which are tied to that geographical area), they will go to Loguetown which is nearby, but outside the Grand Line. There the Admirals/Shichibukai will appear as the True Final Boss, closing the circle of the run through the Grand Line.

The entire Fishman Island arc is one massive callback to the start of the series.
  • Hody Jones is a buffer, more dangerous version of Arlong.
  • Vander Decken has a Devil Fruit that grants him long-range attacks, just like Buggy's (with a hint of Don Kreig's reliance on weapons).
  • Caribou is a sadistic schemer who's more dangerous than he lets on and acts behind the scenes, just like Kuro did.
  • Fake Luffy was only a threat because of his humongous crew, like Don Kreig's Armada.
  • There are currently three opponents the Straw Hats have to overcome, two of which have teamed up, which echoes the battle at Loguetown (where the main opponents were the Buggy/Alvida alliance and Smoker).
  • And I'm almost certain Big Mama will make an appearance to demonstrate how dangerous the opponents in the New World will be, just like Mihawk did with the Grand Line.

fake!Luffy is the figure in Madame Shirley's prophecy.
Demalo Black has a ripped straw hat, after all. Plus, it seems just silly enough for One Piece that such a renowned seer would confuse Black for Luffy because they dress identically, despite looking nothing alike otherwise. Through Caribou, Black still has a reason to be relevant to the Fishman Island arc as well, so his appearance there wouldn't be entirely unjustified.

There will be a filler where the Straw Hats get attacked by bounty-hunter ninjas.
Just to make use of the Ninjas vs. Pirates meme.

The final battle.
The final battle will be a 3 way between the Strawhats and their allies (remaining Whitebeards, Red Hair pirates, Revolutionaries, Rayleigh, Hancock, Jimbei, Buggy, Crocodile...), the Blackbeard Pirates and allies(they'll probably get a number of "evil" crews to follow them, being an evil counterpart to the strawhats), and the Marines (along with Warlords that don't defect, mass produced and 2 year more advanced Pasifitas). The battle could include:
  • Luffy vs Blackbeard vs Smoker+Coby;
  • Zoro vs Shiryu vs Hawkeye Vs Tashigi(Zoro defeates Hawkeye and Shiryu and becomes the world greatest swordsman, then trains Tashigi so she can surpase him, proving to Kuina's "ghost" that a girl can become the world's greatest swordsman.);
  • Shanks, Dragon and Marco vs 3 admirals;
  • Sanji vs Helmeppo vs Jesus Burgess;
  • Ussop+Yassop vs Van Augur;
  • Brook vs Laffitte (they have similar builds, both have a top hat and cane, similar pale complexion, both performers,(music and tap dancing,) Brook is a skeleton and Laffitte can look like an angel);
  • Chopper Vs Doc Q Vs Warlord Trafalgar Law;
    • Woah woah woah. Woah. WARLORD Trafalgar? I'd see him as a Yonkou, but a Shichibukai? Probably not.
    • Law is now a Shichibukai, confirmed.
    • And an ally
  • Franky Vs Kuma;
  • Sanjuan Wolf Vs Marine Giants vs Elbaf Giants+Oars Jr(if he survived);
  • Robin Vs Doflamingo; (his puppet powers has trouble with all those limbs in a non-humanoid shape.)
    • I'm getting the feeling that Doflamingo is going to end up dead by the end of Dressrosa.
  • Well Doflamingo's not dead, but let it be known that there's absolutely NO WAY Robin can take him in a fight unless she improbably gets some sort of massive upgrade. Law fighting the Straw Hats is now incredibly unlikely as well. I guess we'll see about the rest, but still, one major thing hurting this WMG is that you left out the other 2 Emperors and their crews completely.

The Reverie will be a turning point in the story, possibly in the efforts to discover the truth behind Void Century/to oppose the World Nobles.
With three of Strawhats' allies, Dalton, Vivi, and Neptune (and maybe Ivankov or even Hancock?) joining the meeting as kingdom leaders, it's likely that the Reverie will hold some sort of importance in the plot. Made even more likely with Oda's penchant for bringing old characters back into the story. Maybe something along the lines of: As the Strawhats take care of the physical battles against the World Government's men, the aforementioned leaders will work together to defeat them from the background, politically. This is why the "saving a kingdom" plotline is used several times in the story, so that the Strawhats can make allies with the different kingdom leaders. I'd even go as far as saying that Oda has planned the Strawhats' detour to Drum Kingdom smack in the middle of Arabasta Arc so that Dalton and Vivi know each other and be able to work together for this purpose.
  • And following that, seeing as how the Strawhats actually have very powerful political relationships, they will be written down as world heroes or something in the future historical records by the new world leaders (including Vivi etc), after the defeat of the World Nobles. (a stretch, maybe, but hey this is WMG)
  • It is definitely going to be part of the next arc, and considering all that the Straw Hats have done with kingdoms, something is going to go down.
  • Here's an idea: The Marines know the Straw Hats got away from Saobody Archipelago. They know the only place they can go is Fishman Island. Marejois is directly above Fishman Island. Therefore, when they surface on the other side of the Red Line, the Marines will be waiting to ambush them. Supposing this works, they are taken to Marejois to be made an example of/to be prosecuted. Then they obviously break out and lay waste to the city. This would allow several things to happen:
    • Luffy would become a Fisher Tiger expy for the modern age (possibly freeing slaves as he goes).
    • Robin can find out about some of the Ancient History.
    • The crew can reunite with several people they met.
    • Everybody's bounty would skyrocket, pulling at least Usopp, Brook, (Franky?), Nami and especially Chopper out of low bounties and into danger levels they deserve (they are New World capable after all).
    • Dragon might take more direct interest in what Luffy is up to and meet him at some point.
    • We get the satisfaction of more World Nobles getting the shit kicked out of them.
  • The only problem with this is the number of high level Marines supposedly hanging around Marejois that they might have trouble with (e.g. possibly Sengoku, Tsuru, Garp, Vice Admirals or Ex-Fleet Admiral Kong).
    • Problem, you mean epic boss battle.
  • Though of course Sengoku and Garp are retired, and the three admirals and smoker are likely to be positioned at the new world marine base so it may not be so hard a fight..
  • Sort of Jossed - important events definitely took place (the Revolutionary Army freed the slaves and Kuma, the abolition of the Seven Warlords system, the assassination of Cobra, framing of Sabo and revelation of Imu to the Revolutionaries) it doesn't seem to be a sea change in the same way the Time Skip was.

The final villain will be Higuma
For whatever reason, he survived the Lord of the Coast and as a mountain bandit, is waiting on the other side of Reverse Mountain to take revenge on Luffy, or something. If this is true, we will have to rename Chekhov's Gunman to Higuma the Bear or the like. Approximately 26 years between appearances, anyone?
  • If that ever happens, I will be amazed about Oda doing unexpected things multiplied by infinity.
  • If this happens, I'm more partial to calling it "Oda's Gunman"
  • King of the Bandits VS King of the pirates. Sounds epic.

When the journey finishes, the offspring of the Straw Hats will be the protagonists of the next generation
While Oda might be finish with the franchise by then, if he's not then the successor would probably be called One Piece: The New Straw Hats. While these couples are not definite, I believe that the members will be:
  • Luffy and Nami's Child
  • Zoro and Robin's Child
  • Usopp and Kaya's Child
  • Sanji and Whoever's Child
  • Vivi and Koza's Child
  • Brook (He could be the only one who lives for so long)
    • What about Chopper and Franky? Are they just unlucky or could they maybe continue on with Brooke? ... And now I just imagined that Chopper's kid would have a fishwoman as a mom. I hate my mind sometimes.
    • Romantic Straw Hat relationships in One Piece canon? That's unpossible.
    • So unpossible that I think we can consider this pre-Jossed. But fear not young shipper, you still technically have a chance until Oda finally drops the pen after chapter 5001.

The final arc will have many big bads
Essentially a big bad ensemble featuring Blackbeard and the World Government (or/and, assuming it does not control the world government, the entity Doflamingo is loyal to [if it controls it then it is a part of it, even if it considers it just a puppet). Other important persons, big bads, big goods or big neutrals like the supernovas, Mihawk, Vegapunk, Shanks or/and Dragon may or may not also stir some chaos.

The final arc will not take place on Raftel
Although some important battle will. [the battle with either one of the Supernovas or a Warlord of the Sea (including Blackbeard)

The arcs after the time skip are partially based on the arcs from the Arlong Park Arc till the time skip
If take a good long look at the most recent arcs they seem to be following a certain pattern: Right before they enter the new sea they are going to (Paradise and New World, respectively) there is an arc about the fishmen (Arlong's crew and the Fishman Island). And in the second arc the Stawhats go to an island to help someone, only to get attacked by a new villain's minions, and then they find an ally in someone who was working for said villain so they can take down a powerful pirate (Whisky Peak and Punk Hazard). Plus, there where whales between those 2 arcs.
  • I guess that makes Law the new Vivi. Huh, well, as long as he doesn't turn out to be a princess I think I'm cool with that.
    • As of recent chapters another similarity has appeared Doflamingo is the one commanding Caesar, making him an analog to Crocodile, another Warlord.
  • If it continues like this then it seems most likely that the yonko they fight will be Big Mom, and then after that they'll have to fight someone that has a major ego complex, thinks they are a god, if you will... perhaps Kaido or Akainu.
    • And then they'll meet up with the revolutionaries (note: the next big arc after Skypeia was Water 7, which dealt with government spies trying to gain power and the Straw Hats declaring war on the government, it's hard not to imagine something in the same vein wouldn't happen when the revolutionaries show up)
    • And then Moriah shows up (Thriller Bark)
    • And THEN an execution will be held for one of the rarely seen but cherished characters and Luffy and co. will raid a base to save him or her... and succeed, allowing Luffy to get some closure after his failed Attempt to save Ace. I bet it'll be Blackbeard who tries to execute Shanks on one of the islands he's gotten over the time skip.
    • And the final arc will be on Raftel:the battle for One Piece!

There will be another chapter entitled 'Luffy vs -insert nakama name here-'
We already see Luffy vs Zoro, vs Usopp, vs Vivi. Related to the above, there will be chapter about vs Chopper and/or Robin. Or maybe Luffy vs Law in the current arc.
  • A little off with the individual guesses, but sure enough chapter 844 is titled "Luffy vs. Sanji''. Confirmed.

Life and death prediction
By the end of series, assuming everyone would reach their dreams :
  • Strawhats : Usopp, Nami, Chopper, Franky and Brook is likely to stay alive, their dream require a bit more time than the end of the series. Especially Brook, technically he's already dead.
  • Sabo is likely to stay alive since he's already 'dead' in the past, it's not funny to pull the same thing twice. His dream also require a bit more
  • Coby is Luffy's rival; He's likely to be alive and reached his dream by the end of series. Which means...
  • Akainu is likely to be dead. Seriously, you can't imagine him retire peacefully, do you? Since he was technically the 'villain', there's no other option for this guy.
  • Shanks is likely to be dead, because of dead mentor tropes. Luffy gets to keep the hat.
  • Garp is likely to be dead. After Roger and Shirohige, he's likely the last one, and to put another new era.

The time placement of the series.
It has been established this series takes place on Earth, but when? I know when: over a thousand years after a global nuclear war nearly wiped out all life on Earth. Nuclear summer brought extreme sea level rises, which explains why there are so many islands and no sign of any true mainland.Think about it: they have wind-powered ships and swords, yet they still have modern-looking firearms, PA systems, and modern fashions. There is also nothing powered by fossil fuels, meaning technology has yet to fully recover. All of the Devil Fruits are actually regular fruits that are irradiated. The ambient radiation may also explain why there are strange-looking characters who I would classify as mutants (along with minor mutations such as Usopp's "Pinocchio nose"), not to mention the weird, unnatural hair colors (Zoro having green hair is NOT dye). Therefore, the only explanation is that the world of One Piece is a post-apocalyptic world.
  • It's actually never been established at all whether One Piece takes place on Earth or not. Jury's still out on the post-apoc theory though.

There are currents that lead out of the Grand line through the calm belt
This would explain how people like Zeff, Krieg, and Mihawk were able to get out of the Grand line so easily, because they just got on some of these currents and it could also explain why the marines don't just go through the calm belt to get to Raftel there's probably a really strong current there.

The purpose of Noah?
Near the end of Fishman Island arc, in the Poneglyph located near the island, it is mentioned by Joy Boy that the colossal ship Noah's purpose will not be known until it's the right time. If we're going to take the symbolism of the name, then here's my guess...It was stated by Whitebeard that, when the One Piece is discovered, the entire world will be shaken to the core. Assuming this is true, then by the end of the series we'll have a colossal disaster, a colossal battle, or maybe both, but the end's the same: the world will be covered in water as the side effect. Here comes Noah: it will be used by the survivors of the event to, well, save themselves from the disaster. As for who, though, I might have no idea for now.
  • Or maybe it will be the opposite: the sea level will LOWER and continents will appear for the first time in centuries.

How the Gum-Gum Fruit (Gomu Gomu no Mi) works
You know what makes peoples' skin stretch? Something called Collagen. I theorize that when the powers of the Devil Fruit that Luffy ate kicked in, there was a major collagen buildup not just in the skin, but throughout his body, including muscles, bones, and organs. Now we just need to figure out how the Devil Fruit makes people unable to swim...
  • The change of structure makes them more dense, like Stitch, of course!
  • Please bear with me formatting wise - I created an edit account just to respond to this.
Sorry, but this is NOT how collagen works at all. Collagen actually gives skin the spring back, which is the opposite of stretch. Collagen IS in bone, muscles, pretty much everything in the body. How do I know this? I have a medical condition which means my collagen is faulty - people with one of the types of my condition have ridiculously stretchy skin. My type means I dislocate joints a lot. Historically, people with my condition were in freak shows as 'The Rubber Man' or contortionists.I find it amusing that Luffy's devil fruit powers are like a superpower version of my condition. If you want to learn more - the condition is called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the The Other Wiki has an okish article on it with some symptoms, but it's not very comprehensive. If people are interested, I'm happy to explain more here, but I thought it was a little out of the scope of this page.

In the New World just as in the first half of the grand line each had it's own climate, the islands here will have different physics and related Raftel and Will of D WMG
As above, each island and it's surrounding ocean will have slightly different but progressively weirder physics and native wildlife. Stuff like icebergs melting upwards creating pillars of water going into the sky, the ocean curling over itself, volcanoes erupting continuously, bizarre skies, low hanging moons and insane gravity. This will get progressively weirder and weirder til you reach Raftel which has no set laws of physics. If anyone here has read Roger Zelazny's Nine Princes of Amber series, I'm thinking something like approaching the Courts of Chaos here. The Will of the D is needed to approach Raftel as otherwise it's formless chaos with the One Piece sitting in the centre of it completely untouchable, but someone with the D can shape Raftel to reflect themselves by force of will. When Roger went to Raftel it looks nice like in the flashbacks because that's what Roger wanted it to be. When Luffy and probably Blackbeard fight there it's going to considerably less pleasant. Basically Raftel is literally a place created by dreams and only the most determined are able to reach there. The series entire ongoing theme made manifest.
  • Almost certainly confirmed, at least partially—with the weird gravitational anomaly pulling Capone's ship out of the ocean, Urouge coming across an island with perpetual lightning where umbrellas are of utmost importance, and Scratchman Apoo discovering they're sailing in midair, we can safely say that the New World has Wackyland physics.
  • In that case, maybe the next crewmember will be a physicist.

The Seven Warlords of the Sea are symbolism for the Seven Deadly Sins.
Whether Oda intended it to be the case or not, it seems to me like the Seven Warlords are meant to be taken as symbolism for the Seven Deadly Sins in one way or another. Mihawk obviously represents Pride, as he goads Zoro into trying to defeat him. Hancock is Lust for obvious reasons. Doflamingo represents Envy with his gaudy clothing and his personality of rejecting the dreams of others not to mention his power is to manipulate others like puppets. Moriah is the strongest representation of Sloth, with his lazy personality and the fact that his zombies are his personal slaves. Both Crocodile and Blackbeard represent Greed, as both sought to exploit their Warlord status for their own personal gain. Kuma represents Gluttony, as his body was replaced with cyborg parts to the point he wasn't human anymore. Jinbe's personality and brute strength best represent Wrath. My guess is if Buggy joins the ranks of the Warlords, he'll take Crocodile and Blackbeard's position as the representative for Greed.
  • Hmm, makes sense.
  • Not really. It's a massive massive stretch for most. Doflamingo representing Envy and Kuma representing Gluttony are easily Square Peg, Round Trope. Jinbe can get angry, but thus far he has not shown or even been referenced as having pointlessly excessive anger so there's another SPRT. Blackbeard's true motives remain a mystery but I doubt it's a matter of a desire for material gain, meaning that he can't apply to Greed. Lust maybe, if his only goal is something like recognition, but not Greed.
  • How about this then?
    • Pride - Jinbe. Proud of his fishman heritage. The wiki refers to him as "a fishman of great pride and honor".
    • Gluttony - Blackbeard. Man loves his pies. Also, could be said to be a Glutton for power, if you're into that sort of interpretation.
    • Greed - Crocodile. Should be obvious.
    • Lust - Hancock, ditto.
    • Wrath - Doflamingo. Likely the most brutal of the warlords.
    • Sloth - Moriah. Relatively obvious.
    • Envy - Mihawk. While he doesn't show the traits HIMSELF, every swordsman in the world is envious of his power and title.
      • As for Kuma? Of course the one who carries around a bible is the one without sin!
      • A good theory but maybe better fits would be:
      • Moriah as Sloth.
      • Hancock as Vanity.
      • Jinbe as Wrath (and as he's given that up he no longer fits in the Warlords).
      • Mihawk as Lust. Specifically battle-lust.
      • Doflamingo as Avarice (he's all about the money).
      • Crocodile and Blackbeard both suit Greed.
      • Kuma as Envy. Possibly even of Ivankov.
Like the above, but with the Straw Hats instead.
  • Luffy - Gluttony
  • Zoro - Sloth
  • Nami - Greed
  • Usopp - Envy
  • Sanji - Lust
  • Chopper - Wrath (Monster Point)
  • Robin - Pride
    • How does Zoro represent sloth? You can probably stretch Robin's case, with her commitment to finding the Truth and being so important and yadda yadda.
    • Zoro represents Sloth because he sleeps whenever the Straw Hats are sailing.
    • Doesn't he spend time working out in the crow's nest?
    • Robin represents pride because she's got the greatest sense of awareness about her own dignity out of all the Strawhats. Zoro, Nami and Sanji all try to be the straight man, but often get pulled into stupid situations before they realize what is happening, but Robin always makes sure to think a step ahead of everyone so she doesn't accidentally end up becoming part of Tactics 15-esque tomfoolery.
      • So where would Brook come in?
      • Wouldn't Wrath be Luffy's main sin since it's listed as his fatal flaw?

There is an actual Sniper Island (aside from the one in your heart)
Usopp's island-eating goldfish story came true. Why not Sniper Island?
  • That is probably the most probable theory on this page.
  • Not only that, it's also in the middle of the Heart Archipelago, probably in the New World. Natives tend to sport Rastafarian motifs, and Yasopp (as well as Usopp, by extension) is a descendant of them. The island itself will be reminiscent of Caribbean islands. And due to Rule of Funny, a mask not unlike Sogeking's is a very important cultural treasure for them, and they want Sogeking's head for disrespecting them.
  • After the Straw Hats visit the place, Usopp will come away with 8000 men as his new followers.
Punk Hazard is not the full name of the island the crew is on
Instead, it's a shortened version that everyone knows it by. My guess is that the full name is actually Vegapunk Hazardous Waste/Experimenting Facility. The idea came to me when the liquid/gas/whatever it is that's the boss talked about how he doesn't like Vegapunk. Crazy I know, but it's a thought anyway.
  • This is my headcanon now.
On Raftel, wether it be the one piece or not, There is some kind of time based anomaly or machine, luffy is destined to go through it by himself when he is in his late 20's-early 30's, and will emerge from the other side roughly 60 years in the past.
No one will know his name, and he cannot reform his old crew, in some cases becuase they have not been born yet, but mainly becuase if he was to effect his crews lives in the past then important events in the future wouldnt happen. As such he will start a new crew, beggining with his mentor Rayleigh, a meeting he will claim to be destiny. However, again due to the complications of time travel, he cannot keep his name, so he will adopt a new one.Gol. D Roger.I may have got the math wrong in terms of how far in the past he will travel, and how old he will be when he does, but you get the idea, im mainly basing the age and timeframe on rogers appearance when he first meets Rayleigh.

Anyone who has read the series up to the current chapter and has been paying attention should understand what has lead me to this conclusion.

Anyone familliar with the plot and characters of BlazBlue should understand how this works.

  • Luffy would obviously have to either lose his Devil Fruit or hide the fact he had one. Though it might explain where Shanks got the Gomu Gomu no Mi from. Which would also make the Gomu Gomu no Mi itself a Stable Time Loop.
    • Im guessing that we will discover Blackbeard can remove powers without needing to kill, in the final battle he will take luffy's power but he will beat him through superior Haki, thats unless he just hides having one once he go into the past.
    • Fridge Logic sets in, though, when you realize this would mean LUFFY WOULD BE ACE'S FATHER.
  • Yeah, and whats wrong with that? Luffy doesnt know who Portgas D Rougue is, so theres no reason why he couldnt meet her when he is an adult in the past and fall in love with her, only to realise that his son must be Ace and so names him Ace.
Unless Rougue named him? i cant remember...Also if you remember Roger never even met his son, he was sailing the grand line when she gave birth, so luffy would never end up having to deal with the fatherhood problem. Its not really Fridge Logic as it would make sense and wouldnt be an inconsistency. Id call it Fridge Brilliance, as it would explain why they look so alike but arnt biological brothers.
  • Rouge named him.
  • There's also the rivalry with Garp which needs to be taken into account. Since Roger trusted Garp enough to look after his son despite (if he was Luffy anyway) not knowing his son's appearance or name, this would clash with Luffy's own memories of Ace being the only kid besides himself that Garp looked after/dumped with Dadan.
  • How would it clash?, the fact that Roger left Ace with Garp is something Luffy does know, as such to fullfill the future he will have leave his son to Garp, someone Luffy does trust.
Also in the scene where Roger asks Garp to take his son he calls him Ace so he does know hs name (someone must have told him). My point is that Luffy will know he is Ace's father but becuase Roger never met his son he knows he wont have to deal with it.Also whatever feelings that Luffy would have upon realising that he must be Aces father do not matter, so that the future happens he must have him as a son and he must give him to Garp.

Just so people know im basing this WMG on the idea of the stable timeloop, wherin Luffy cannot deliberately do something that he knows would change the future such as picking up Brook before he does when he's 17 or not handing himself into the marines. Becuase this would cause key events in his life to not happen, possibly making him be erased from existance (when he is in the past).

For example upon arriving in the past he would remember that Brook will become stuck in the florian triangle for over 50 years, and possibly want to save him from that torture. However he knows that he cannot try to save Brook as that would mean he wouldnt be there to be added to his crew when Luffy is 17, and Brook not being there could result in a number of his crewmates possibly including himself dying. Not to mention a number of other possible disasters.

The owner of the ripped Straw Hat is the Captain of another crew
Just a little pet theory of mine, but there just might be someone out there, who after seeing the Marineford war, contests Luffy's right to own that Straw Hat, having a close connection to Shanks. However, they wouldn't intentionally destroy the island, and the destruction will be as a result of his/her crew trying to take down Charlotte Linlin, the likely producer of the Evil Steroid pills, due to their candy-like shape.

Bonus points if their crew becomes eventual allies of Luffy.

The One Piece world is going to turn into a rather epic Crapsack World
At first, OP was a Crapsaccharine World, where everything looks bright, fun, and happy, except there's tons of horrifying Reality Subtext and general nastiness that goes under the radar. Pretty soon, the strawhats are going to have tons more first hand experience how utterly depraved and nasty humanity can be now that it's now "Blackbeard's Era" and so many islands are getting raided. The idea of Oda spending more than a decade building up this beautiful, fun world only to make it degenerate into an orgy of violence and evil is just chilling in the best way possible. (in other words, a shonen version of Shadow Star)
  • I always thought that the OP world was always a Crapsack World, and most in it know it, but it's Saccharine qualities was just to us fans alone due to it's fantastical nature.
    • Said Saccharine qualities sure as hell had 4Kids fooled...and apparently a lot of fans as well if the shock and outrage over Ace's death is any indication. It seems like the story is about to bring a lot of the dark stuff to the forefront and a good portion of the fanbase is in denial.
    • That's why the pirates, even the evil ones, can be seen as heroes, rebelling against an evil world order with ideas of romanticism, even if the "romantic" idea is getting rich in a rigid caste society, it's still admirable.
      • It's admirable to attain power and wealth at the expense of innocent people? What are you smoking? Both evil pirates and the WG are guilty of oppressing weak people to further their goals. Romanticism and rigid rules are two sides of the same evil. Or do we just not care about them because they're not "cool"?
      • I think the general gist of what the above idea was that at least Pirates don't blow up an entire island of people to cover something up or kill random pregant women to stop something on a hunch.

The mood will stay the same as it was before.
It was pretty clear that it was a Crapsack World before and the straw hats don't really seem to be bothered by events that go on in the world. In fact Luffy's the only one with a reason to be more mature.
  • Seems to be confirmed. The Fishman Island arc is a bit dark, but definitely no more so than, say, Alabasta or Enies Lobby.

The first half of the Grand Line is the All Blue.
The All Blue is a legendary sea where all the main seas converge and sea life from all of them exist. Now think about this: if you look at a map of Reverse Mountain, there is an outlet to the Grand line from all four main seas. If ships can go through Reverse Mountain, so can sea life. We already know Laboon did. Wouldn't that mean that the first half of the Grand Line, particularly around Reverse Mountain, would actually be the All Blue?
  • I think it would said so in the Chapter/Episode Title.
  • Funny you should mention that. I had an idea that the all blue was an underground sea INSIDE reverse mountain
  • Guys, it's on the fishman island, as Sanji had stated himself. 'I've found All Blue!'
    • Joking aside, there is a theory that All Blue WILL be found on fishman Island.

Sniper Island is in the New World, located just before Raftel.
All of the New World paths will converge either at Sniper Island or slightly before it, and upon landing at Sniper Island, the Log Poses will point directly to Raftel. However, Sniper Island exists in people's hearts. That means a person (or a crew) would have to possess a certain state of mind to access it. Otherwise, it will not show itself. That state of mind is empathy towards others, selflessness, and a lack of greedy thoughts (in other words, a pure heart), traits which are at odds with most of those wanting the One Piece because it would make them rich and famous. This is the reason why nobody has claimed the One Piece yet: Because everyone who's made it this far into the New World wants the One Piece for selfish reasons, Sniper Island doesn't appear for them, preventing them from tracing the path on their Log Poses necessary to reach Raftel. This will also be a stopping point for Blackbeard, as he can't get past Sniper Island. It's likely that Blackbeard has already reached where Sniper Island should be and, frustrated at his inability to progress, has taken up the role of Emperor in the New World, hoping that someone from a land he's conquered has the capability. So far, he's had no success, but when the Straw Hat Pirates reach the island, it WILL appear because Luffy and his crewmates possess all of the above personality traits. Blackbeard will get wind of this, make his way onto Sniper Island before Luffy leaves and the island vanishes, and confront Luffy once and for all right here.Alternatively, Raftel IS Sniper Island, in which case the same ideas hold. This would explain why the Marines have also not been able to reach Raftel, despite their ability to travel freely within the Calm Belt: The ones with the authority to do so have impure hearts or have other priorities, and the ones who have pure hearts (such as Coby) don't have the authority. Thus far, Luffy has proven to be pure due to his immunity towards Boa Hancock's powers and is already able to access Sniper Island. Zoro and Chopper too. Usopp, Robin, and Franky don't yet have the heart, but they are good people and can achieve it with dedication. Nami, Sanji, and Brook are very impure and would need major Character Development. It's difficult to get a good reading on Trafalgar Law, but I doubt he meets Sniper Island's requirements as he runs on Grey-and-Gray Morality. Eustass Kidd is very far from it (perhaps even less pure than Blackbeard), is not likely to change, and may be the character who will introduce the audience to the trait of the island. Of the Four Emperors, Whitebeard was an upstanding enough man that he's likely able to reach Sniper Island and has seen the One Piece himself, and Portgas D. Ace can also reach it, but Ace had Honor Before Reason and was fatally sidetracked. Shanks can reach Sniper Island but chooses not to as he's waiting for Luffy. Kaido and Big Mom cannot reach Sniper Island as they're ruthless. Thus, Luffy is the only character so far who has the conditions necessary to reach Sniper Island and has a goal that requires landing on the island.

Fishmen are descended from humans who ate fish devil fruit
There used to be fish devil fruits, which enabled the user to breath and move underwater, basically counteracting the whole sea-devil hating you thing. A group of people all ate fish devil fruits, had kids, went and found more fish devil fruits, fed the kids them, and continued as such. Eventually, they started to be born with the fish devil fruit powers, the devil fruit stopped growing, and the users began to be able to eat other devil fruits.
  • They could actually have grown on the sea bed where fishman island is now, hence why they're local to that spot only. Also, could explain how they managed to eat so many themselves.
  • Impossible, there can't be any more than one fruit with the same ability. As soon as the user dies, the fruit comes back, but no two devil fruits can share an ability.
    • Unless we're dealing with Zoan Devil Fruits. Think about it. Fish-Fish Fruit. Model: Swordfish. Model: Shark. Model: Octopus. Technically that last one isn't a fish, but you get the idea.
    • Those aren't the same fruit though, each "Model" is a single devil fruit that can only have a single user at a time (though there can be different fruits with similar effects). Regardless, devil fruit powers "return to the sea" and can't be inherited through birth so the theory is jossed.

That phenomenon Capone Bege saw when entering the Grand Line was Issho.
Remember when Capone's ship was pulled up towards that black thing? That may have been Issho's gravity-based powers at work. At that point, Issho was not yet a Marine Admiral, but probably just some random guy with ridiculous levels of strength. Considering Capone is still at large and has become a member of the Worst Generation, all of whom have committed world-shattering deeds over the time skip, and Capone's Mafia motif, maybe Capone made Issho an offer he couldn't refuse, and Issho now works for Capone. If Capone can have this kind of leverage, he'd have connections that make Doflamingo look like an amateur.

The secret to possessing several Devil Fruit powers is cannibalism.
It'd be only natural that to achieve something as awesome as two DF-powers at once you'd have to commit an utterly heinous act that isn't common among the general public. Maybe taking in another person's essence allows you to use a second Devil Fruit, because technically your body contains two human souls. This would also explain why Bartolomeo, being already a DF user, takes part in the tournament for the Mera Mera no Mi. Being the despicable person that he is, he has most likely already consumed human flesh.
  • "Cannibal" is a pun. In Japan, "eating people" means "mockering" which also describes Bartolomeo's character.
    • Jossed to hell and back by Bartolomeo himself AND Burgess, who tried to take a devil fruit using a very conspicuous knife. The whole reason Bartolomeo is even in the tournament is to give the fruit to Luffy, whom he idolizes like none other. It's actually really sweet.
The Luffy/Hancock Ship Tease is all a massive, cruel, inordinately mean-spirited troll
Hancock's got a Meaningful Name connected to Luffy, her blood type and astrological sign are supposed to be compatible with his, she (mistakenly) thinks they're practically married, and generally acts like the perfect, beautiful, submissive Japanese wife around him. Oda set out to make this relationship funny, sweet, and likable, and he apparently succeed in making the fandom generally approve of it. Only problem is...One Piece is set in a Crapsaccharine World. If how he lead the fandom to believe he'd never kill named characters and then brutally offed the hero's brother is any indication, Oda has a boner for cruelly subverting beloved fandom expectations. This ship is doomed to crashing and burning in the most painful and disappointing way humanely possible.
  • You're putting a really weird spin on it(just because one specific ship is destined to fail, that's why One Piece is a Crapsaccharine World? Insane Troll Logic much?), but... FREAKING DUH. Luffy is a Chaste Hero; any ship involving him is automatically doomed as far as canon is concerned. It's really your own fault for taking such an obvious joke seriously.

Roger, Raftel, and a little something called the One Piece Plan...
  • Now, stay with this troper for this. Roger kickstarted an age of piracy 20 years long, all in search of something he calls One Piece at an island named Raftel. We now know Raftel requires FOUR Poneglyphs to locate, each forming an X with Raftel in the center. The only way to reach it is to be able to read the ancient writing left in these stones by the people of Wano. Robin is the only person currently who can do this, and has the goal of finding the "Rio Poneglyph," the ultimate record of the Void Century, which was erased by the World Government. It's rather easy to infer then that Roger was able to not only read the poneglyphs himself, but locate enough of them that he gained at the very least a decent understanding of the forgotten history. Now, putting poneglyphs aside, the One Piece is confirmed to exist by both Whitebeard and Oda, with the later declaring it isn't something like "the adventure" or "their bonds as friends." Whitebeard states that its appearance will send the world into chaos, which seems to be exactly what Roger wanted. Given what we know and what we are guessing, the One Piece might just be the weapon, be it a real physical one or a piece of information, needed to bring down the world government. How this happens varies depending on what one thinks one piece is. If it is physical, then it's meant to bring down the Red Line and all the world nobles with it (uniting the oceans in One Piece and inadvertently creating the All Blue, the fabled ocean.) If it's information, like the Rio Poneglyph, then it's the capability to shatter the WG's hold on the seas, much like Laplace's Box. This troper personally believes in what he calls the One Piece Plan; a long game set into motion by Roger, led along by Shanks, and further developed by Rayleigh... also known as Monkey D. Luffy. Roger creates the Dream, Shanks instills it in a chosen hopeful, gives this person both the motivation and means to succeed, and then Rayleigh positions himself in such a way that nobody can get by him without him allowing them to (his being the most reliable ship-coater in Sabody Archipelago, the halfway point on the Grand Line), giving him ample opportunity to meet, scrutinize, approve of, and advise Shank's choice. The One Piece isn't the Journey, the Journey is the method of training the next pirate king so that they can reach One Piece in the first place, and bring about the last step of Roger's plan, the complete and utter decimation of the World Government and all they stand for: Absolute Justice that does not discern innocent from criminal and Hypocrisy that corrupts and rots the kingdoms of the world from within. Luffy also has the right idea in that the Pirate King is the man who is the most free- someone who knows the truth about the world and who understands how it came to be is no longer held back by the lies and misdirection the world is fed about the void century and the WG as a whole. And the only way to ensure that the world is free is to topple this government.

Chapter 1000 Predictions
  • The Reverie arc will begin, in which King Cobra will start answering serious questions about the Void Century.
    • That part is jossed; the Reverie arc started and ended much earlier.
  • Wano Country will be liberated following Kaido's inevitable defeat.
    • Jossed, Kaido's defeat happens nearly 50 chapters later.

The "final" battle will be the battle to end all battles.
Given the serial escalation in terms of battles in major arcs like the ones against Arlong, Crocodile, Eneru, CP9, Moria, Hody, Doflamingo, Big Mom and Kaido. One can possibly imagine that this battle that will decide the definitive order of the Great Pirate Era between the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies, the Four Emperors, and the World Government. And every side will bring their most powerful arsenals we can't possibly imagine.

The final battle will not only be Luffy against Blackbeard and Akainu, but the Straw Hats vs the World Government.
Given that Blackbeard turned Ace into the government and Akainu would later kill Ace, it would be the perfect chance for Luffy to avenge his brother's death. As for the Straw Hats and their allies, they will fight Imu and the World Government like they've been doing and end their reign.

The Grand Finale will occur after the Wano arc.
The Straw Hats will finally reach Laugh Tale and find the One Piece. During this time: Doflamingo, Big Mom and Kaido have been defeated and Wano Country has been liberated. On the World Government's side, some of its members as well as the Marines and officials will more openly question about their corruption and Imu's planned Final Solution. On the Straw Hats' side, they and the Grand Fleet will join forces with the Eleven Supernovas, the leaders of the kingdoms (as well as their family members and friends) who have participated in the Reverie, the Skypieans and the Shandians on Skypiea, the Alabasta Royal Army, the Franky Family, Hancock and the Kuja Pirates, the Thriller Bark zombies, the fishmen on Fishmen Island, the children on Punk Hazard, the Dressrosa citizens, the Whole Cake Island citizens, Bege and the Fishtank Pirates, Aokiji, Shanks and the Red-Hair Pirates, the Mokomo Dukedom citizens (including Carrot and Wanda), the Wano Country citizens (including Tama and Yamato), Rayleigh, and Dragon and the Revolutionaries (including Sabo and Koala) to form The Alliance against Imu and the World Government and the Blackbeard Pirates with Luffy as their main pirate leader. Meanwhile, Fishman Island will be relocated to the surface, Robin will finally find the Rio Poneglyph and reveal the truth about the Void Century and Nami will finally draw a map of the entire world from the Grand Line to the New World. The climactic battle will not be a duel between crews, but an all-out brawl between the Straw Hat alliance, the Blackbeard Pirates and the World Government, using their most powerful arsenal.

The East Blue will be the last location visited in this series.
It will probably appear in the final arc a Book Ends sort of way, as it was the first location to appear in the series.

If there is an Elbalf arc, it would be the first Story Arc of the final saga.
The Elbalf Kingdom is yet to be explored and many fans expected this Story Arc to be one of the greatest of all time in the franchise's history, even surpassing the Wano Arc. Because of this, here is the list of possibilities for this arc:
  • The turning point and subsequent conclusion of Usopp's dream of being A True Hero (and ascension to "Godhood").
  • The re-introduction of Yasopp, Loki, and the giants of Elbalf.
  • More clues regarding the whereabouts of the Void Century.
  • The World Government's continued pursuit of Robin and the Blackbeard Pirates' next course of action.
  • The Revolutionary Army's hidden motives.
  • The now-defunct Warlords' fates after being targeted by the World Government in the previous arc.
  • Luffy and Shanks' brief reuinion.
  • The final confrontation against the Big Mom Pirates.
  • Jossed: the first arc of the Final Saga focuses on Egghead, although some of the above plot points are addressed during the arc.

The Final Arc won't be the end of the story.
At Laugh Tale, Luffy will find One Piece, defeat Blackbeard, and become the king of the Pirates. That will be the end of the One Piece manga. At which point the story of the pirates versus the World Government (including the secrets of the Void Century and the Greek trio) will continue for another Oda only knows how many years/volumes under a new name.
  • Seconded; it could also tie into the secret meaning of "One Piece" that only Oda himself knows—perhaps the whole of One Piece is actually one piece of an even bigger story.

(One of) The last chapter(s) of the story will be named "Romance Dusk"
Because Book Ends, and one last critical hit in the heart courtesy of Oda.

One Piece and Raftel/ Laugh Tale

One Piece feeds upon spirits
It's a hideous machine that makes those who desire it quickly drain their lives away. Gol D. Roger died shortly after reaching Raftel, and Luffy himself is shortening up his lifespan very quickly: this is all One Piece's doing. Many other ambitious pirates find themselves performing ridiculous feats that kill them really fast, and whoever eventually finds the treasure will die very quickly indeed.
  • Considering Whitebeard's final speech regarding One Piece, that seems unlikely.

The One Piece Is...
... an item like a map that leads somewhere else, promising an even greater treasure. If Gol D. Roger knew he was setting off a new age, he might leave something after the first discovery in order to convince people to keep searching for his treasure, and ensure that the Great Pirate Era kept its momentum.
  • So, about this Rio Poneglyph, then.
  • Or maybe, just maybe, One Piece is something much more simple than that, like how Luffy (and Shanks before him) considered the straw hat a treasure, and Zoro does the same for Kuina's sword and the promise they made. In which case, the most likely candidate for that would possibly be the hat itself, since Rayleigh recently revealed it used to be Roger's hat.
    • Or just One Piece of gold. Mega-trolling by Roger.
      • Maybe it's not trolling. Maybe Roger's trying to say that the journey was the treasure, not (the) One Piece (of gold) itself. After all, Luffy puts a lot of emphasis on the journey, not the goal, so much so that he would have given up on his quest if someone just told him where One Piece was.
      • Oda stated that the One Piece is not the journey, but something physical.
  • I have always believed the One Piece to be the collected history of the 100 year gap on one poneglyph. Knowledge is power, after all, and it'd fit the name too: the history is in One Piece.
  •  Maybe the One Piece isn't on Raftel at all, and there is a map on Raftel that tells that the One Piece is at his birthplace of Loguetown. Maybe even right under the place he was killed at.

The One Piece is a MacGuffin in the style of the briefcase from Pulp Fiction
At last the gang makes it to Raftel. It's a barren island, empty save for the treasure chest. Luffy opens it. We see his excited expression turn into solemn awe.

The end.

  • Considering that in chapter 576 Whitebeard talks about turmoil that will engulf the world when Gold Roger's treasure is found, the discovery of One Piece probably won't be the end of the story.

The One Piece was the "one piece" of treasure that started Gold Roger's hoard
Oda must be at least tempted to do some variant of All That Glitters and have either the sum or the centerpiece of Gold Roger's treasure be some small treasure that holds sentimental value for Roger. Luffy has his hat, after all...
  • One Piece is just that. One. Gold. Piece. Gold Roger's been playing every pirate on the line for a fool.
  • When asked in an interview what his biggest secret is that nobody else knows, Oda replied it was the reason behind the naming of One Piece. This just oozes mysteriousness...

And on the note of Luffy's hat . . .

The One Piece is Gold Roger's hat.
It would fit thematically, and he looks like he's the kind of guy who would wear a hat. Probably got to the end of the Grand Line and left behind his favorite hat as a sign that he made it all the way. It will probably be a cool-looking hat, at least.
  • Roger DOES lose his hat sometime between Chapter 0 and his return from Raftel...
  • Unlikely now that we now know that the straw hat Luffy got from Shanks was actually Roger's to begin with. Maybe he left a different hat on Raftel?
    • Perhaps the hat is indeed connected to the One Piece, but it is the key, not the treasure itself.

The One Piece is a hoax, meant by Gold Roger to start a massive wild goose chase and ensure him a place in legends.
On the day of his execution, Gold Roger had no material possessions. All the treasure he may have hidden was lost to him now, and the glory would go not to the one who found it, but to whoever dug it up. In time, as Roger's treasure was discovered, his legacy would be lost... But while he still breathed, he had one last possession to protect: his legacy. A notorious pirate? A mysterious treasure with a catchy name, never found, promising wealth and fame beyond their wildest dreams to whomever discovers it? This is the stuff dreams are made of, a legend that gets passed down from generation to generation... And generations have made and lost their lives looking for the One Piece. One could assume that Roger's treasure was hidden with such fiendish cunning that it may never be found, but it seems more likely that the treasure isn't material thing at all. "You'll have to look all over the world for it", he said... And his legend has, indeed, spread all over the world. The Golden Age Of Piracy itself is the treasure he left behind.
  • Information revealed in chapter 506 could be a vague hint pointing towards this possibility.
    • Then why would Whitebeard loudly announce that One Piece does in fact exist just moments before dying?
    • whitebeard also mesmerised in his last thoughts that the discovery of once piece would shake the world, so it probably has some significant meaning.
      • So the one legendary object that started the age of piracy and that everybody is looking for turns out to be a hoax, or just something of no material value, and that's not enough to shake the entire world?

The One Piece is a souvenir.
Possibly going along with the sentimental aspect of the One Piece, possibly it is simply an important, well-known object belonging to Gol D. Roger. That could be excellent proof that the founder got to Raftel. If you are good enough to get to Raftel alive, you probably have the strongest pirate crew in the whole world. If the captain of that crew goes back back to Lougetown with this interpretation of One Piece, they could make a decent claim to the title of the King of Pirates.
  • "I went to Raftel and all I got was this lousy shirt..."
    • "Thank you for visiting Raftel! Please take a look at the pictures in the booth over there and decide if you want to buy one. Come again!"
    • Or, assuming Luffy's the one to get to Raftel first: "Congratulations on reaching Raftel and achieving 'New Pirate King Status'! Now, receive the ultimate treasure of Gold Roger's...You've been wearing it on your head all along!"

The One Piece is The Power of Friendship.
It's a recurring theme in the series. The One Piece will turn out to be a letter from Gold Roger telling Luffy that he wouldn't have come that far without the help of his friends.
  • One Piece was Nakama. Not just The Power of Friendship true companionship, but Roger's crew, whom he accidentally left behind on Raftel after getting captured. One Piece would essentially be their starved remains. (Probably Jossed. Good thing.)
    • Less morbidly, they could have a food source on the island and just be living there. After all, it's only been 22 years, it's unlikely his entire crew would die by now.
    • those last two are definitly jossed, since we met several of his crewmembers off the island. and how do you leave "friendship" in one piece?

Finding the One Piece will not end the series, but will make it Recycled In Space.
The Poneglyphs already indicate that the world has had and lost advanced technology; the strange flora and fauna could indicate that the world is an alien planet and the humans are lost space colonists. In this theory, either the One Piece is lost technology, or else it will be used to pay for developing lost technology (perhaps retrieved from the Poneglyphs). Either way, the science in the show is soft enough that having the pirate ship take off into space with a warp drive and force field to keep the air in wouldn't be far from the tone of the series.
  • This has already been covered to some degree in the side stories, one of which involves Enel's adventure on the moon.
    • Whitebeard's final speech regarding One Piece pretty much confirms that actually finding it will not be the end of the series. The Recycled In Space part, not so much.

One Piece is Gold Roger's Soul Jar, the Will of D is a fragment of his soul, and the quest is his way of gaining immortality
Why would Gold Roger leave his treasure on the last island in the Grand Line? There's a one-way trip there, and you'd need to travel around the entire planet. Clearly, he can't move it. And why would he tell people about it? Clearly, he wants them to find it. And why hasn't somebody like Whitebeard or Shanks found it yet? Well, the answer seems to be in the Will of D, a mystical connection of people who laugh in the face of death, like Gol D. Roger.

But what if it wasn't laughing in the face of death? What if it was laughing because they knew that they would live? One Piece is no mere treasure... it's the ultimate treasure. Immortality. Gold Roger traps a portion of his soul, "One Piece" of his soul, at the end of the Grand Line; as long as it exists, he can never die. Roger spread the legend of One Piece so somebody would sail all across the Grand Line and release him. But not just any soul can free him. He needs to be freed by "One Piece" of his own soul. At the moment of death, his soul was scattered to the four winds, reincarnating itself into special children who would carry his soul down over generations as the Will of D. When somebody with the Will of D arrives at the end of the Grand Line, Gold Roger's soul will be set free, and it will take over his body. At the end of the series, Gold Roger will feed on the soul of... somebody and emerge as the true Chessmaster Big Bad.

The Will of D was all a lie. They weren't laughing in the face of death. They were laughing because the part of their soul that was Gold Roger knew it would live still. And then Luffy gets really mad...

  • So Roger was dropping bits of his soul off before he died? After all, there are at least two people with the Will of D who are as old as or older than him: Monkey D. Garp, Luffy's grandfather, and Saul D. Jaguar, the marine giant that saved Robin from the Buster Call.
    • Perhaps the spiritual world of One Piece doesn't function in completely linear time - though Brook's time spent searching for his body would seem to refute this.
  • It would be funny if it was another kind of jar...
    • Re the Soul Jar idea...Like maybe Roger's straw hat?

One Piece is a piece of paper
And it's going to say, 'That was fun, wasn't it?" That's it. Think about it....
  • Again, Chapter 506 could IN THEORY drop a hint towards something like this......
  • Alternatively, the One Piece is a piece of paper, and it's going to say: "To you who made it here alive: the greatest treasure is that you are still in one piece."
    • That would make it really ironic if Shanks, who in fact is no longer in one piece, would find it.

One Piece is Zeus
Two ancient battleships of unimaginable power have been mentioned: Pluton and Poseidon. But there were three brother gods. Gold Roger could read phoneglyphs; he might have been able to track down the third, the most powerful battleship of them all: the Zeus.
  • One problem with that: One Piece has to be something that would have at least some kind of symbolic meaning to the crew. They love their own ships too much to give a crap about an ancient battleship, and it seems unlikely that even Oda would just have them leave behind or destroy the titular treasure.
  • Shiki does say Roger knows the location of a hidden weapon...
    • which was before he reached raftel.

The One Piece will be destroyed at the end
There can be lots of reasons for this. Maybe it gets destroyed in the final battle for it. Maybe an enemy gets it first and destroys it because it's 'worthless'. Maybe the Straw Hats themselves destroy it to stop the fighting over it. Who knows?

The One Piece is the ancient weapon that the Poneglyphs talk about
The rest of the Poneglyphs are on the same island that the One Piece is on, right? So maybe Gold Roger could read poneglyphs and found the ancient weapon, but then realised the consequences and left it at a place that no-one could get to. Doesn't explain why he told everyone about it at his execution, though.
  • According to Rayleigh, the Polygraphs could be interpreted a number of ways, so it's possible that the Polygraphs could lead to something good; Gold Roger started the search for One Piece just to see what people would use it for.

The One Piece IS the island of Raftel
No one has ever actually made it to Raftel, save for Roger. Thus we can assume the island isn't very well documented. Maybe Roger's treasure hoard is SO massive, he simply anchored it to a point at the end of the Grand Line and left it there. Over time, people began to mistake it for an island. The fact that the only image we've seen of Raftel show a shadow covered in mist would support this: no one's ever gotten a good look at the place, just its silhouette.

The Will of D and the secret of Raftel Island are a Devil Fruit power, and the executed Gol D. Roger was a duplicate of the real one.
A devil fruit had the power to allow the one who ate it to create new beings from him (or, less likely, her) self, allowing one person to gain multiple devil fruit powers (though in multiple bodies, unless they have some way to re-merge). Gol D. Roger, who was executed, had been a duplicate made to take the fall, and the other Will of D characters were all made in the same way. Each new being wasn;t fully formed, but a newborn, and "D" had to plan years or even decades ahead to keep from being left without a guard. Raftel contains a sort of anti-aging machine/throne/cocoon from whoever the sky people or atlanteans or whatever the people were who left behind the secret technology were, and the Straw Hat was a geas to bring his next guard/caretaker (earlier Shanks, then Luffy), or even body. Gol D. Roger's "treasure" included whatever devil fruit ability he had, and all of it was left in One Piece, which was the combined treasures and powers of all Will of D who had returned to Raftel, or died, respectively. Luffy's final battle will be proving himself by being forced to kill Shanks (he probably won't) before joining/joining with/defying "D"/"One Piece".
  • Gol D. Roger is still alive, and only the duplicate could be a grown up guy, but it'll be shown the the One Piece is... The original Gol D. Roger. That happens to be a never-aging little girl. What, Rule of Funny doesn't count?

One Piece is a reminder of Gold's True Companions
After venturing for so long, they picked the most secluded place to leave reminders of themselves, be it a treasured item of theirs, or the end result of their succeding in their life's goal. Gold's will be a straw hat as mentioned above somewhere, and a note that encourages people that have come here to leave a reminder of their adventure here as well, and continue the story for others.

On that note, here is my guesses for what Luffy's crew will leave.

Luffy will probably leave his hat.Nami might leave a (copy) of the deed to her town, or perhaps the Map Of The World.Sanji will leave a map to the All Blue.Chopper will leave a copy of his All Cure medicene.Franky will leave either the blueprints for his ultimate ship, or the ship itself.Robin I'm not sure of, unfortunatly.Zoro will leave Kuina's sword.Brook will leave his most famous song. And Ussop will probably leave a list of lies he told that came true.

  • Robin would most provably leave a complete writing on her discoveries about the true history of the world and hbow to transalte the Poneglyphs' language.

The One Piece is the Ultimate Question.
That's how the One Piece universe is so weird. Gol D. Roger just figured out the Ultimate Question, put it on a piece of paper, and put it in a distant island, so nobody else besides the one that discovered the treasure would read that and figure out what it was, thus, giving less chances to destroy the Universe again to make it even weirder. If Luffy figures out it (according of other theories, he will), the Universe is screwed.

One piece is just a large treasure
think about it.we know Oda loves pulling surprises, and what would surprise us more than NOT pulling a surprise?
  • Don't be silly, it's way too obvious! Perhaps his treasure is... Well, a treasure chest. The chest itself, with nothing at all inside.
    • Of course not, it's got his treasure in it. He left his treasure in One Piece, remember? It would make sense to leave all his treasure in his favorite treasure chest...

One Piece is a Bag of Holding in Treasure Chest form.
It's got all of his treasure in, which is a lot.

One piece is the Dream Collet

One Piece is the one remaining piece of a Devil Fruit Power-Combo Cake.
Someone (possibly the ancient kingdom, so they could all breathe in space and have rocket-propelled feet and leave that water-filled planet) figured out how to catalyze the devil fruit through a number of different ingredients and a difficult cooking process so that one bite could give a person multiple devil fruit powers without exploding. The ingredients are all incredibly expensive, which is why Gol D. Roger left all his treasure in One Piece. Unfortunately, it tastes worse than All The Devil Fruit Combined. It might not have the drawback of the Weaksauce Weakness to seawater, or it could just make it worse, which is why nobody who finds Raftel can ever leave it.

One Piece is a tree that grows Devil Fruits
It would tie in with the Meta Origin of fruit users.

The One Piece is literally one piece of eight

You can only get to Raftel if you can swim.
There's "some trick" to getting to Raftel. The only people who ever set foot on it were the Roger Pirates. Roger didn't have a Devil Fruit, and neither do Rayleigh and Shanks. In fact, Shanks has mentioned that he doesn't think having one is "worth it". Maybe the trick involves not being "rejected" by the sea through having a Devil Fruit. If this were true it would be pretty tough for Luffy who accidentally ate one and lost his ability to swim.
  • Not that it would stop him.
  • Yeah, he'd figure out some way to get there anyway, but it might explain why the greatest of the greatest pirates other than the Rogers couldn't find it.

The One Piece is the Rio Poneglyph, and Gol D. Roger's call to find it was really a plan.
During Gol D. Roger's final cruise in the Grand Line, he discovered the Rio Poneglyph. While the claim of Rayleigh is that they heard the True History from the spirits, the truth is that they actually read the Rio Poneglyph and learned that the World Government had to commit a string of incredibly heinous atrocities in order to consolidate their power. So Roger, who was dying anyway, decided to make himself a martyr and start the current piracy craze in hopes that more people would learn the truth.

In the end Luffy will find One Piece, but Robin will decipher it. And it will spell the end of the World Government's power.
  • There is an assumption on what being the "Pirate King" means that is connected to this. Gol D. Roger probably behind the scenes extorted the World Government, claiming he knew the true history, but so did others, so they permitted him his freedom so long as he did not speak the truth.

The One Piece is junk but getting there is the trial to become pirate king
The further down the grand line you go the stronger people are and so by the time you get to the final island where one piece is supposed to be you would be the baddest pirates around. By having the power to reach Rafeteal (or however it's spelt) you have the strength and authority of a king.

One Piece is a big Reset Button
That would reset the entire world, which also explained the blank century and the weird world of One Piece.I'm taking this after another pirate series, in which the greatest treasure in universe turned out to be a reset button...

One Piece is an eye patch
We know that a pirate wearing an eye patch will never be shown until the very end of the series. So the eye-patch-wearing pirate will be no other than Luffy after putting on that One Piece'd eye patch he found in Raftel. Doy.

One Piece is one piece of a larger treasure.
And the latter half of the show will be finding, and stopping others from finding the other pieces.
  • it could all be one big jigsaw but with treasure!

One Piece is both a sentimental treasure and a large amount of wealth
The Strawhats will find the sentimental part first and Nami will be disapointed. Then they'll find the other half...

One Piece isn't on Raftel at all
We don't actually know where Roger hid the treasure. He said he left it in "that place" quite possibly the most obscure description ever. My theory is that Luffy and crew will reach Raftel, find nothing there, continue on to say hi to Laboon and discover that One piece was left with Crocus.
  • Then a race to rescue Laboon from Blackbeard for the finale?
  • Maybe "that place" means he left it with his crew or one specific member of his crew. Which would likely mean that (wait for it) One Piece is in fact his straw hat, which he left with Shanks, and which Shanks then passed on to Luffy!
  • ... It's on Sniper Island.

One piece is not a thing, but an island
And it's in your heart. Right next to Sniper Island.

One Piece isn't just all of Gold Roger's treasure.
It's all of Gold Roger's treasure smelted down into a single, shiny beautiful Piece (Hence the name.) The last shot of the story is of said treasure, which was smelted into a specific, odd shape. That shape spells out the word NAKAMA.
  • Anyone who's heard the song One Tin Soldier knows this is true.
    • Or his Nakama was gold-plated! :D

One Piece is the ruins of an ancient civilisation
Basically, Raftel is the abandoned home of the last civilisation that fought what would become the World Government during the Void Century. It's on the hardest to reach island in the Grand Line, showing that they were really backed into a corner and probably fought to their last man. But the rebellion wasn't quenched completely, and lives on in the Will of D, so secret that most who carry the name doesn't understand its origins.

But why hasn't the rebel army tried to topple the government yet? Why hasn't Roger's crew taken desicive action? Even Rayleigh admitted to knowing the truth, meaning that if the truth was written in Poneglyphs on Raftel, Roger must have read them out loud to him, if not the entire crew.

The rebel army and the Will of D was first resurrected by Roger's discovery - it's taken over 20 years to take it where it is today, with Dragon as its leader. Dragon had some kind of connection with Roger - perhaps they were related, or he worked as his navigator since he appears to be able to control the weather - but that Dragon's connection to Roger is unknown is the reason that he's the one sticking out his neck. Known associates of Roger are stopped by some force, or are forced to act in the dark because of their notority. They can't risk to draw attention to the rebel army's actions. This of course doesn't explain what purpose the Four Emperors serve, if not that Whitebeard was protecting something from the most powerful pirates that were aspiring to become the pirate king. He and Shanks keeps them in a deadlock and therefore immobile, creating the delicate power balance that makes the World Government hesitant to interact with them (thus prompting the foundation of the Seven Warlords of the Sea). He was raising Ace to become the next pirate king, since he realized the rebel army would need a different representative than "the most dangerous criminal alive" Dragon.

But what exactly did Roger discover on Raftel? It was enough to make some people think slavery and dark justice was a fitting price to pay for what is essentially suppressing the people and not allowing them the freedom that the Strawhat crew seeks, the freedom of breaking traditions and living your life as you want. Because when people live as they want, they sail. And when they sail, they eventually reach Raftel.

It can be the Celestial Dragons that founded this new world order, to protect their lifestyle or convictions. Or the Celestial Dragons are just a group of people that blackmailed the World Government with information. Information they still need, since otherwise they probably would have been long dead. But generations of diplomatic immunity and wealth has corrupted them to the core - the current Celestial Dragons probably have no idea what their ancestors were up to.Anyway, the secret of Raftel is no doubt something that would topple the current World Government. Exactly what it is - I dunno.

Holy crap, Wall of Text.

  • There's a big hole of logic here. Roger left what we call the One Piece at Rafteal, not found it there. Plus, what you say would be the Rio Poneglyph anyways.
    • We don't know what One Piece is, he could have found it there. If you think about what we know about Roger he does not seem like the type of man who would save treasure. He lived for the moment spent all his money on beer, hookers, and whatever he wanted to ya know.

One Piece is... A Water Based Logia Fruit
Given that every element seems to have a corresponding Logia Fruit, by the Laws of Probability there would have to be a water themed fruit somewhere that would give the user an immunity to the weakness of water. Sounds far fetched? we currently have no confirmed idea what Devil Fruits are and what gives them their trademark Achilles Heel. My theory is that somewhere, sometime, maybe by mutation or man-made engineering, a once in a lifetime event occured - the birth of a perfect Devil Fruit. This leads to two possibilities:

1) A water based Logia fruit with the immunity to water. Whoever was to consume this fruit would literally become a God on the Grand Line, with the power to literally end Roger's pirating career with a simple snap of his fingers. The Pirate King would have every reason to want to bury this fruit in the furthest, most unreachable place he could possibly find.

2) A water based Logia fruit without the immunity to water. Whoever was to consume this fruit would essentially be committing suicide. We can only guess what would happen to the guy that ate it, but dry land drowning would be a very real possibility.Any half-way decent person would want to bury this fruit in an effort to save an innocent man or woman from death - The One Piece was simply Gol D. Roger being nice.

  • Another possibility is that Gol D. Roger simply didn't think he needed it to be Pirate King, so he left it in his treasure. If Luffy reached it, he'd likely turn down somehow obtaining it for the same reason. Or take it and turn out to be like Blackbeard (IE, capable of eating two) and use it only to gain the strength to finish Blackbeard off.

The One Piece is a picture of Roger's pregnant wife
It was his one true "treasure". Teech will find it first, feel like he was cheated out of a treasure, and rip it apart. Luffy will then go in a rage for Teech stamping on Roger's memories, and then start the last battle of the series.

One Piece is... Gol D. Roger

Luffy will refuse One Piece.
He will let it remain a mystery so that young pirates have something to shoot for.

The secret to One Piece...
Has something to do with the sign over Loguetown bearing the town's name. Remember, Loguetown witnessed the birth and death of Gold Roger. Birth and death come at the beginning and the end of life. What else fits that description? The letters "L" and "E". Obviously, those two letters on the Loguetown sign are connected to One Piece in some way. And it would fit in perfectly with Oda's tendency to screw over the Dub Name Change with his storyline twists (doesn't quite work with "Roguetown", now does it?). (I'd like to thank Batman #263 for giving me inspiration for this theory.)

The guys are gonna fly in order to reach Raftel
Ussop once made a joke about they arriving Raftel flying in a octopus-balloon. Obviously this was denied in the spot, but seeing as his jokes/lies tend to become true, I would bet they're gonna have to fly at some point to Raftel. This also would make sense, we can guess Gol D. Roger had to be able to make his ship fly (or someting of the sort) in order to reach Skypea. That would make the island almost ureachable because, How many pirate ships can fly? How many pirates can sail through the New World? And just to narrow the number, How many fucking pirates can handle a double fucking flying ship all over the hell that is New World?
  • Obviously there were another ways to Skypea, but that wouldn't be fun...
  • It would be interesting is Raftel turned out to be a sky island, just one that lands every now and then as seen in the silhouette.

One Piece is connected to both the "Will of D." and the True History.
Whitebeard has a flashback to a conversation with Rogers about the "Will of D." and then tells Blackbeard he's "not the one" Rogers was waiting for. He then mentions how someone will challenge the world and that is the WG's greatest fear. He finishes by saying the finding of One Piece will turn the world upside down. He also says it has nothing to do with him, increasing the chance that the person has to be a D.

the One Piece was meant for Ace
Gol intended Ace to one day find it, and as such will have a letter for Ace with it.

One Piece is NOT at Raftel.
When Roger died, all he said was "I left all my treasure at that place." He never specifically said it was at the end of Raftel. Bearing this in mind, this leads me to conclude that.

The One Piece has the power to revive the dead.
Hear me out on this one. Every Straw Hat has a person they would want back from the dead, right?-Luffy has Ace-Zoro has Kuina-Nami has Bellemere-Usopp has his mother / The Going Merry-Sanji has... not sure on this one... maybe he'd just side with Nami or Robin?-Chopper has Doctor Hiluluk-Robin has Saul / Nico Olivia-Franky has Tom-Brook has YorkiIt could lead to an interesting arc, with the Straw Hats at an impass of who they would wish to bring back.

The One Piece will grant neither wealth nor any sort of power, it is simply a token designed to promote piracy, Gol.D Roger's final f**k you to the World Government.
I believe that Rogers treasure will turn out to be a rather humble object, granting nothing but proof that one has found it.This will be because Roger will have had anti-government sentiments as he grew older and closer to death,(as it is clear Luffy will develop such resentment, eventually joining his revolutionairy father), and felt that the best way to undermine the government was to offer the world a reward for directly subverting the government.Whitebeard knew this, that is why he stated he had no interest in it, and why he chose to assert its existance with his dying breath, to rob the government of its victory. However i feel the strongest evidence for this theory is Buggy the Clown. Throughout the story we have seen that Buggy wishes to amass wealth, and is happy to take any power handed to him. On top of that, he is not the kind of person to honor agreements, and would have likely turned around and grabbed it when the Roger Pirates disbanded.Except that, like Whitebeard, he has shown absolutely no interest in it, because he ,Shanks,Rayliegh and any other Roger Pirate know that it holds absolutely no value.

The One Piece is a dress!
In Japanese, wanpisu means dress. The one piece is probably a golden dress.
  • Probably meant for Portgaz D. Rouge

One Piece is the sea sea fruit
It is a gamebreaker beyong compare it fits the weapon that will bring chaos to the world status and is the bigest possible treasure that can be composed of one piece.

All the theories on One Piece are wrong, at it really is just a whole load of treasure
  • Whitebeard's last words indicate that One Piece does have some genuine worldwide significance, so this seems unlikely now.

One Piece is a device or gateway towards the world's collective consciousness.
That's why it was necessary, during the Void Century, to hide it at Raftel, the "impossible to reach" island—the ancients had discovered a way for people to be conscious of one another, leading to global understanding and peace. The ancestors of the Celestial Dragons wished to oppress the world for their own benefit and force the people to work for them, so they fought a massive war with the intent to destroy that object and marginalize all knowledge of it. But since they couldn't get rid of it, they opted to instead hide it while erasing all knowledge of its existence—the entire century, just to be certain. D stands for "Descendant"—descendants of the ancients who used the device. That's why Gol D. Roger was able to hear the "voice of all things" and write the ancient characters on the Shandorian Belfry on Sky Island. Luffy and the others might too discover that they have that ability. That's why, as Whitebeard mentioned, the world will be "completely turned upside down" when it's found.

Getting onto Raftel requires...
...knowledge of the Ancient Language. This is why no pirate, even those with over twenty-year headstarts on our heroes, have been able to access it yet, since all those who understand it are dead. We know Roger, the one person to reach the island, could read it, and being able to read it is precisely why he was the only person to reach it. Obviously, this means Robin will be the one to get the Straw Hats onto the island come the final arc. It also suggests that Blackbeard isn't done recruiting yet, as if he's going to be our Final Boss then he'll need someone who can read the language as well.
  • Effectively confirmed, since the road to Raftel requires reading all four Road Poneglyphs. Roger read it through the Voice of All Things, and Robin is currently the only one who can read it.

The One Piece is actually a person
And a former member of the Roger pirates, and a future member of the Strawhats.

The One Piece, if it even exists, is NOT at Raftel.
Two reasons for this. If memory serves Roger himself never called the one piece by name. He just mentioned his treasure. Also when did he ever say he left it at Raftel. He just said he left it at "that place." Seems to me like people are just assuming he left it at Raftel, when there is no real evidence to support it.

One Piece is actually...
...One PEACE. It is a philosophy, a way of living even, that could threaten the World Government's power. It may even be a Magna Carta/Bill of Rights style document outlining the abolition of the Feudal system most of the world seems stuck in due to the World Government as well as instructions for establishing a representative democracy/republic.

This doesn't mean much to Gol or Luffy, as they are already live/d their lives by the tenets of One Peace. Now if Dragon somehow joins forces with Luffy before reaching Raftel(which is where One Piece is, as Gol's final words were "Oh, that? I left it there... at that place." with the onlookers explicitly inferring it to be the place he is famous for finding.) he will make use of One Peace to finally defeat the Celestial Dragons.

One Piece is, Literally, the World of One piece
The plant itself is called one piece, Raftel is some sort of control station that will allow the one who finds it to control the entire planet and modify land forms and their physics to their whims. The world government wants to control or cover up such a powerful object and the true history details the development of the modern state of the world through this power.

The discovery of the One Piece will trigger a war in which the pirates and the revolutionary army will join forces against the World Government.
The One Piece will include, among whatever else, the true history behind those who possess the Will of D, the reason Raftel is in ruins, and the truth behind the Void Century. This information will be so shocking it will push every pirate under Luffy's banner (which by this time will be a crap ton of pirates) and most if not all of the other pirate crews to declare war on the World Government, and they will be joined in doing so by Dragon's revolutionaries.

Laugh Tale is a Sky Island
This would explain why its so hard to find, because from the blue sea it would just look like clouds.Let's think about this one a bit further. It's mentioned that to get to Laugh Tale, one must find the Road Poneglyphs and use them to find the location of four points on the world's charts, and draw a line between each point, with the point where the lines intersect marking the island's location. Most pirates would most likely find this out only by going to Lodestar Island, which is a dead-end because the Log Pose refuses to settle and only spins in circles. However, it's also stated that Laugh Tale is the very last island in the Grand Line/New World, and assuming this is true, would mean that it has to be located beyond Lodestar Island. Considering that, it seems highly unlikely that in the 800 years since Joy Boy left his treasure there, nobody would have found the island purely by chance. By just sailing onward from Lodestar Island in a straight line, reaching the Red Line, turning around and sailing in another straight line until one has fully explored the space between the Red Line and Lodestar, one should theoretically be able to find Laugh Tale. And even if you assume it is not literally the last island in the Grand Line and located somewhere else in the world, like say, the West Blue or any other of the four main seas, it seems even more unlikely to never have been found randomly, considering the four Blues are much, much safer to travel in than the Grand Line.It would therefore make sense for Laugh Tale to be an island located in the White Sea, or even the White White Sea. After all, a real explorer of the world would know to search and account for every possibility; including looking upwards. This would also cement Roger and his crew's statuses as absolute badasses even further and it would make sense that they'd be able to reach it; they've already gone to the clouds once, getting back up there should be no problem for them.

Before uncovering One Piece, the Straw Hat Pirates will have to undergo many difficult trials on Raftel.
One Piece will be guarded by traps and other challenges which will test the strength of their bonds. Only when they have completed all of their trials will they be allowed to look upon One Piece.

There is no One Piece.
Upon finding it, Luffy will just find a note from Gol D. Roger saying "Haha! You wasted your lives trying to find nothing! Hope you enjoy the piracy, World Government!"

The whole thing was just Gol D. Roger getting the last laugh against his executors.

  • Jossed by Whitebeard, who confirmed the One Piece does exist, as a final middle finger to the Marines.

Joy Boy was a title held by a member of the Family of D.
So given because of their smiling in the face of death.

And one day, when another D. fulfills the original's promise to the people of Fish-Man Island, that D. (probably Luffy) will be dubbed the new "Joy Boy".

  • "Joy Boy" being a title (specifically, for the person who Awakened the Gum-Gum Fruit, AKA the "Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika"), confirmed. Luffy becoming the new "Joy Boy", confirmed. The original Joy Boy being a D., still up in the air.

The One Piece is something that will destroy the Red Line
Which will disrupt all the currents and divisions in the world, uniting all the seas into one. This will create the All Blue, let Brook reunite with Laboon, end the dominion of the World Nobles. Downside is that Nami would have to remap the world and Franky would have to have his ship of dreams sail this new sea, but that gives them all a reason to keep traveling the world together.

Laugh Tale is connected to Devil Fruit production.
A more vague guess than the above entries, but the fact that Roger and the others couldn't stop laughing when there, regardless of their personalities or sense of humor, is an awful lot like the side effects of a dud SMILE Devil Fruit. Perhaps those ones, fed to those people in Wano who are always laughing no matter what, has some essence of Laugh Tale in them, or at least some substance on Laugh Tale, albeit permanently in their bodies. If we want to be more specific, on Laugh Tale, there may be the force that creates Devil Fruits. It's unlikely to be a tree as Devil Fruits are converted from ordinary fruits, but some source that permeates the entire planet that originates there and is the most concentrated there.

Laugh Tale is an undersea island.
Another reason why nobody has been able to find it prior to Roger is that nobody thought to look down. Of course, it being undersea without a bubble like with Fishman Island would just make it a mountain on the seafloor. To get to Laugh Tale as an island, it has to rise up out of the sea, which I'll guess will be from the activation of something located at the coordinates written on each of the Road Poneglyphs (and, since they're Road Poneglyphs, may also cause a pathway to rise up out of the ocean as well).

It is some kind of incredibly powerful knowledge that the one who holds it is basically holding the world hostage as it could destroy the world if unleashed. It is a kind of knowledge that is basically a bad joke to the point that people could be driven mad. Maybe it is related to the World Goverment or maybe the Devil Fruits or perhaps the sea or the world itself. And the rub is, this knowledge is something that needs to get out, but Roger didn't have the courage or foolhardiness to reveal it due to what doing so would entail. The whole Grand Line basically serves as both a Training from Hell and a Secret Test of Character to find someone who can do what Roger couldn't.

Laugh Tale is in the middle of Long Ring Long Land
Long Ring Long Land is... strange. It's the only arc without any real narrative purpose. It's a wide empty plain with pretty much no landmarks. It only really has one special feature: Anything that stays on it stretches. Why? Because it makes them feel "more free". Doesn't that sound familiar? Sounds pretty similar to Nika/Joyboy/Whatever. In addition, Long Ring Long Land would be the perfect place to hide such an island. The log pose would guide you to the empty plains rather than Laugh Tale itself, and who would want to stay and explore such a boring place?

Laugh Tale doesn't contain the real treasure, but instead simply tells where it's located.
And furthermore, the real location is on the same island as Loguetown. Meaning that the treasure was in walking distance of where Roger was born. No wonder he burst out laughing upon discovering this. He explored the whole world looking for it only to end up right back where he started.

     Gol D. Roger and crew

Gold Roger was a Crossdresser
Gold Roger secretly wore women's clothing often. One Piece is his favorite one-piece dress.
  • Supported by the name of the last island: "Raftel" is "Lafteru", or simply "Laughter"! The One Piece is something useless just to laugh about.
  • OH GOD! LUFFY IN THE SKIMPY SWIMSUIT! MAKE IT STOP!! MY EYES!
    • OH GOD! LUFFY IN THE SKIMPY SWIMSUIT! ....wait, I'm a straight woman; I love this idea. THANK YOU JESUS!
  • OH GOD! Roger and Emporio Ivankov are friends, this theory has gained credence.

Dr. Kureha was part of Gol D. Roger's True Companions
She seems familiar with Roger, pointing out his name is Gol D. Roger, not Gold Roger as the rest of the world seems to call him. Someone also points out that she dresses like a pirate; and before Crocus joined during the final 3 years, when Roger was sick, they would need a doctor. Plus, she is definitely old enough, and One Piece does stuff like that quite often.
  • If she had been on Roger's crew, Rayleigh would certainly have mentioned it. He did mention Crocus as being the crew's doctor, after all.
    • only for the last three years, when roger was ill. maybe she has worked on the ship before that, and had to leave?

Gol D. Roger is Badass Normal
Everyone else in his crew (aside from Buggy) didn't have Devil Fruit. It would be cool if he simply fights using typical pirate weapon (he had a gun in the flashback) as in contrast with Luffy, who fight barehanded.
  • Half-confirmed. While he didn't have a Devil Fruit, he did have Haki.

Roger's Devil Fruit was the Hito Hito no Mi (Human-Human): Satan Model.

I feel as though this single-handedly explains everything about Roger, as well as enriching the series as a whole, especially in One Piece's on-going theme of Grey (Pirates) vs. Grey (World Government & Marines) Morality. Let's take it one step at a time. Roger has a Devil Fruit power of some sort. If you'll notice, when he's telling Garp to take care of Ace, he's wearing Sea Stone handcuffs, so he has to have a Devil Fruit power of some sort. Now, Roger ate a Hito Hito no Mi. If you look at every single page Roger has ever shown his face in, he is grinning ear to ear. Unless I've missed something. He's about to be executed? Grinning. Telling some guy who's tried to kill for years to take care of his unborn son? Grinning. He's default expression is a smile. Why? He's enlightened. He's reached mental nirvana. So, he smiles. Next, he ate the Satan Model. One step at a time, symbolically, this reinforces the Grey vs. Grey Morality I mentioned earlier. Fleet Admiral Sengoku, a logical final boss for the series for the longest time, leader of the Marines, an organization who have stopped the protagonists time and time, turns into Buddha. Now we look at Roger. Captain of idol and father figure of the main character. A main character who is clearly a good person, and has met many other good natured pirates. With all these good hearted people, logically, the greatest pirate of them all is... Satan? Also, it would be incredibly cool. Satan with nose-hair so long it resembles a moustache. That, and if it's anything like Sengoku's power, it'll be ridiculously strong. And we all know Roger must've been a force to be reckoned with.

  • I've got a few problems with this...
    • Just because he had Seastone Cuffs on doesn't mean he was a Devil Fruit user. Seastone is harder than Diamond, it makes sense to use it in the cuffs of the most powerful man in the world.
    • Smiling all the time, even in the face of death, has long been established as a Will of D trait.
  • Jossed. Roger is confirmed to have never had a Devil Fruit.

Gold Roger and (most) of his crew never had any Devil Fruit powers.
In the very first issue, Shanks tries to dissuade Luffy from joining his crew by pointing out how he can't swim. Shanks and his crew, Rayleigh, Shakky and Crocus (who, granted, was only a part-timer) haven't shown any indication of having Devil Fruit abilities, nor has Roger in the brief flashbacks to times in his life. Buggy is the only one known to have those powers, and not only was it an accident that he did, but he was still considered to be The Load. That last part is probably due to his personality offsetting any of the benefits his power gives him, though. It all suggests that Roger's crew was full of Charles Atlas Superpower types and Haki users.
  • This may be true considering that in Buggy's flashback way early on when he was telling Luffy why he hates Shanks, that Roger's crew were all gathered around Buggy who said he was going to eat the (fake) fruit, and everyone was disappointed that he didn't get any special powers, saying that devil fruits were probably just a fake legend anyway.
  • This is Wild Mass Guessing? A good deal of the fanbase already considers this canon until proven otherwise.

At least a part of Gol D. Roger's success as a pirate, such as destroying half of Shiki's armada and traversing the Grand Line, was due to either mind reading or clairvoyance or both, these could be attributed to his supposed power to "hear the voice of all things."
Just throwing it out there, he clearly only had the one ship, with a crew including number of people who may have had Haki at the time, and Buggy.Based on what we know, his crew couldn't have been that powerful. So rather than beating his opponents through super powers (Whitebeard) or shear military force (Shiki and Garp), he simply won because he knew exactly what to do in any situation, as he already knew what his opponents would do, like a superior form of Kenbunshoku Haki.hmmm, just watched the anime adaptation of chapter 0, in the anime it states that half of shiki's crew were destroyed by bad weather, so if that was canon, Roger was either very lucky..or.. had help from dragon!, who we've seen to have definatley been alive as he was at roger's execution..
  • Garp said that Roger had the luck of the Devil. Hence why his stubbornness to never flee while his true companions were behind him, never resulted in his death like it did for his son, Ace.
  • His crew couldn't have been that powerful!? It consisted of the likes of Silvers Rayleigh, for God's sake! This series does have such a thing as Badass Normals, you know.

The relationship of Roger and Garp
Roger did to Garp what Luffy did to Cobie, another instance of Luffy's similarity to Roger.
  • Unlikely: Garp is a D., and from what we have seen of those, he probably never required any help with his self-esteem.
  • Smoker seems to be more of Luffy's Garp.

Gol D. Roger had the power of the Yami Yami no Mi.
Once he had been executed the fruit had been reincarnated into the world, and is why Blackbeard wanted to obtain it so much that he would kill his own crew for it.

Roger wasn't actually a powerful fighter
From what little we've seen of Roger, he had no devil fruit powers. While many people assume he was a skilled haki user to make up for this, it's never seen or stated explicitly that he does. Past accomplishments of his sound very impressive, but they're not described or shown in enough detail to rule out exaggeration over time. The only unique power he seemed to have was hearing "the voice of all things", which isn't implied to be useful in a fight. He was considered an equal of Whitebeard, but the two actually got along, Roger didn't duel him. Roger probably had no outstanding abilities whatsoever, but conquered the Grand Line through charisma, cunning, bluffing, negotiation, friendliness, and effective command of subordinates like Rayleigh. What I think really sells the theory is what we've seen of Buggy and how he bluffed his way into becoming a warlord- he's following in his old captain's footsteps.
  • Jossed - we see him duel Whitebeard in Oden's flashback and their clash puts out waves of force.

     History and Void Century

The World Government were the good guys during the Blank Century.
Prove me wrong. No, in all seriousness, it's quite possibly true. We don't know anything about what happened during the Blank Century. The World Government of 'today' is just heavy handed due to Paranoia of the Ancient Kingdom rising again and screwing everything over. Whether Dragon knows this or not, eh... depends on how you want to interpet him now.
  • I actually had a similar theory that the World Governement (or the descendants thereof) were actually the 'pirates' of the Blank Century, opposing whatever government existed at the time, therefore the current pirates actually overthrowing the WG would be a repeat of history with the pirates setting up their own rules and eventually becoming like a new WG (with different ideals) in their own right.

The Blank Century was a sort of world-recreation.
Robin mentions something about how nothing much is known about before the Blank Century, but suddenly after this time, the World Government appeared. We have things like pirates, Devil Fruits, and the Navy. But where did all these things come from? Perhaps, much of the world before this was a utopian society where everyone had powers similar to the Devil Fruit naturally, but certain people didn't like the peace and harmony going on, and used their powers to see these abilities inside the Devil Fruits, keeping it all to themselves and making the rest of the population powerless. After this, the memories of everyone were sealed away by using this energy to create a new world (and control it), hence why it was called the Blank Century, nobody knew of anything before that because nobody was around. What makes Gol D. Roger so dangerous then was that he was one of these natural users involved in the new world, but decided later that he didn't want this, and told everyone through these tablets the actual truth of what happened. The weapon in question, is the truth which if it comes out could ruin them.

The Void Century has been forgotten for a damned good reason, and un-Voiding it is a Bad Thing.
For instance, during the Void Century there was a hideously powerful tyrant who curbstomped everyone he fought and, even if he was killed, could reform as long as people remembered him, sort of like Dracula or Wallachia. Thus the only way to kill him permanently was to erase him and all his deeds from everyones memories permanently. If the Void Century is uncovered, he'd be free to wreak havok upon the world once again...
  • Except Roger's crew knew about the void century, as Rayleigh told Robin, and encouraged her to seek it out, so its probably something good. Unless Rayleigh is a genocidal maniac and is manipulating events to unleash the horrors and kill everyone, everywhere. Which would undeniably be cool.

The Devil's Fruits are sealed away cosmic horrors, demons, monsters & Gods
At some point in the Void Century, something happened (Like one of the Ancient Weapons being used) that unleashed a swarm of monsters into our world, that somehow were contained in literal fruits, hence the name. Obviously, such a thing meant it had to be covered up by the survivors, the World Government. And since the Gura Gura no Mi has powers like Poseidon, and the Yami Yami no Mi with Hades, Blackbeard has two Gods in him (Maybe the energy sources for Poseidon & Pluton), causing him to either mutate into something horrible or go completely nuts in time.
  • Would the Yami Yami no Mi hold the power of Erebus, the god of darkness and the night? Hades would probably be contained by the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Brook's Akuma no Mi).
    • That is true, come to think of it. Unless Oda thinks Hades is Satan, which might be possible if Blackbeard saying it holds the Devil isn't him being a Large Ham. Does explain a lot about Enel, though if some lightning diety is in there.
      • Enel's fruit more then likely has Zeus, atleast I hope so, I'm still holding out for a Thor Mythic Zoan.

Based on the above WMG: The D.'s were usurped by the current "World Nobles" at the founding of the WG.
The D.'s saved the day, but the current World Nobles tricked/betrayed them so they could replace them as the saviours of the world and thus become overwhelmingly powerful. The True History reveals this, a last act of spite by the enemy at "World Nobles" or as a way to mock the D.'s who defeated them.

Luffys Straw hat is an artifact of the void century
Monky D. Luffy < Shanks < Gol D. Roger < ???
  • Supported by Im having a giant Straw Hat stored in Marijoa.

The ancient kingdom and the D. bloodlines are tied to the moon people.
We know from Enel's cover story that there were winged humanoids who lived on the moon, and that these people came to Earth and eventually produced the residents of the sky islands. But is that all the involvement the moon people will have?

Once, Oda was asked about the D. initial in the SBS, and he told the reader to "read it as a D for now". After reading some theories on another site, it seems to me that the D may not actually a letter - it's a symbol, a half moon. The people who originally came from the moon went on to establish the massive, prosperous "ancient kingdom". But twenty kingdoms from around the world united and destroyed the ancient kingdom, for reasons that are yet unknown. Not only was the ancient kingdom's government destroyed, but its people were all systematically exterminated. The twenty kingdoms weren't able to completely destroy the ancient kingdom's population, though, and now in present time there are still a few people left who can trace their heritage back to the moon - the "half moons", who lost their wings centuries ago due to interbreeding with regular humans and other races. Although it may have just been Oda playing around, one of the Skypeia volumes shows a winged Luffy on the cover.

As a side note, the reason the World Government is so afraid of letting the blank century's knowledge go public could be because they don't want people to know the lengths they went to to destroy the people of the ancient kingdom. At this point, we have no way of knowing why they would feel it was necessary to go to such lengths, though.

  • This would neatly explain why there's a poneglyph on Skypiea.
    • That came from Shandora, it was on the great bell.
  • Looking at the glyphs and art that Enel found on the moon, the lost civilization of Birka bore a distinct architectural and other aesthetic resemblance to the Shandians. A people whose ancestors (the Shandorians) were destroyed protecting their poneglyph during the void century. Though the Shandians know nothing of the Shandorians, they still know that the poneglyph is more important than anything else. Since the The ancient Birkans possessed the technology of flight (perhaps even the physical ability what with being winged) and other advanced technology, it does not seem far fetched for them to populate far flung areas of the globe, including the sky islands (which were, perhaps, the easiest to colonize or perhaps the only place safe to flee as their civilization was being erased). Since the Shandian (and maybe even the Shandorian one, it's impossible to know) bears more similarities to the Aztec civilization of our world, this would play with the popular (bunk) theory of the Mayans being a super advanced culture possibly influenced by aliens. Since Oda likes playing with real world history/myth, this editor thinks that the analogue is appropriate.
    • If the Tenryūbito, whose name literally means "Heavenly Dragon Folk", had wings, it would suggest that the ancient Birkans created the alliance that erased the Ancient Civilization. However, given that they have shown such intolerance for all that isn't human (and especially, one of them), this would seem unlikely. This editor would guess that they destroyed the ancient Birkans and their allies merely because they were different (if the allies were normal humans, then it would be because they tolerated difference), leaving only the unknown backwater settlements untouched (or at least still visible). Taking the title of Celestial Dragon, would then be an attempt to establish their supremacy over a people who literally came from the sky.
    • Given that Shandora was not physically erased, it would seem logical that it was not the original settlement of the ancient Birkans. Raftel may be where their capitol was, given that the poneglyphs lead up to it and how virtually nothing is known of it. However, since the ancient Berkans were shown to be a people of three subsets with slightly different wing styles while modern "winged humans" such as the Skypieans, Shandians and sky island Birkans seem to be distinct peoples now, perhaps the cataclysm that felled the Ancient Civilization also resulted in self division by appearance, like an One Piece analogue to the fall of Babel.
    • How this plays with the Will of D is anyone's guess, but perhaps if it's not a symbol for being "half of the moon, half of the earth" then the Ds share an ancestry of a people who took of the cause of the ancient Birkans in their struggle against the 20 Kingdoms. Perhaps being a "D", one is naturally tolerant of others.

The Ancient Kingdom in its heyday is as evil as the WG today
If rumors of Pluton and Poseidon are to be believed, these people must be really good at making weapons of mass destruction. They might have been the original creators of devil fruits, and the reason the One Piece world has such a messed-up geography. They weren't La Résistance, they were The Empire. Their demise might not even be related to the World Government, but rather their own fault (the Celestial Dragons just took the credit) Whatever technology they had was deemed too dangerous for mankind so the newly formed World Government decides to destroy them. But they can't, so they opt for containment instead, and try their best to make sure their secrets are lost forever...

The One Piece, the Void Century and Raftel.
During the Void Century, there was the "Ancient Kingdom" that was destoyed by the early world government. What if that kingdom was called the Pirate Kingdom. A country ruled by a Pirate King, whos citizens would journey the world and have adventures. When the Pirate King died or stepped down, the first one to Raftel would be crowned the next Pirate King. The One Piece is a record of all the past Pirate Kings, including Gol D Roger.

The World Government was founded by pirates.
This is the secret of the true history that the WG is so desperate to hide. They're not just usurpers, they're criminals themselves and all their talk of justice is total hypocrisy (more so). If word ever got out, all their authority as justice would come completely crashing down, and they'd be exposed as the dictatorship they are. Admit it, it really does fit poetically and the hypocrisy is completely in line with how they act.
  • In the Dressrosa arc, the Tontatta chief recounts how, according to their old history, before moving to Mariejois the Donquixote dinasty oppressed them; it was under the Riku dinasty that took their place that things got much better for the Tontatta. So, the idea that the WG founders were scum (with the possible exception of Vivi's ancestors, who may have been coerced into the original alliance or were later struck by a My God, What Have I Done? moment) is plausible.

The Celestial Dragons are the descendents of powerful individuals who overthrew the Lunarians.
Marco mused about the Lunarians being part of a "kingdom of gods" who ruled well before Mary Geoise was a thing, and if King is any indication, they were not nice or kind rulers. The ancestors of the Celestial Dragons probably were legitimate heroes who overthrew and likely exterminated their tyrannical rulers, only to have their descendents grow decadent, weak, and cruel as the status conferred on them by the accomplishments of their ancestors went to their heads.

Parrots are extremely rare and nearly extinct.
The World Government tried to wipe them out because they knew too much about The Void Century and could talk

     Will of D

More People have the Will of D
Gold Roger wasn'evealed as having the Will of until about 150 chapters or so in. This opens the door for any number of other unrevealed people. So let's all just list them.
  • Buggy D. Clown: He's gotta be hanging around for some reason.
  • Edwar D. Newgate: His name ends with a D, the same as "Gold Roger." And he's the closest one to One Piece.
    • Moot point now what with him being dead and all.
  • Fisher D. Tiger: The Men of D have shown to have an impact where ever they go. Fisher's one-man raid on Mariejois and the freeing of all the slaves there including one (maybe two) future Shichibukai counts as an impact to me.
    • It's not stated that Tiger is still alive, so it's pretty improbable at this point.
      • Chapter 623 confirms that he's dead.
  • Kozuki Oden was a D: He had pretty much all the traits associated with someonewho carried the Will of D. He had a burning desire for freedom, an uncanny ability to attract steadfastly loyal allies, no fear of death, and when he died, he went out with a smile. He likely didn't have the middle inidial D because of Wano's japanese naming conventions and extremely closed-off nature.
  • Jossed. Well, technically Jossed. Yes, at least one person (Traflagar D. Water Law) has been revealed as a D. way after their introduction. But, none of these guys listed are D's. Whitebeard and Tiger died without the trademark smile for one thing, and it would be silly to reveal that they were D's now that they're story is done. As for Buggy, he hasn't shown a single trait that could point to him being a D. And "Clown" isn't his last name, it's his pirate epithet.

The D.s are descended from the Ancient Kingdom.
It's mentioned that the World Government was formed as an alliance against the Ancient Kingdom that was destroyed eight hundred years ago; this is pure speculation, but it is possible that they were destroyed because they were going to do something that would drastically change the world, and not necessarily to everyone's benefit. Fast forward to the present, and we have the Ds, people who have been shown to have the capacity to greatly change the world. So in short, the Ds' ancestors were from the Ancient Kingdom, and are thus all related, though not necessarily in the literal sense.
  • The D. stands for the name of the Ancient Kingdom, and if any of the Ds ever so much as hear that name... something will happen. Something AWESOME.

"D" stands for "Deathwish"
One of the most notable aspects of the Ds is their ability to laugh in the face of danger and a lack of regard for their own lives. They are all ultimately self-destructive personalities who live tremendous lives and go out with a bang. Garp is the only D who has lived long enough to throw a wrench in this, but it's not impossible.

Whatever the Will of D is, Dragon and Blackbeard are aware of it and are attempting to harness it for their own reasons
  • Dragon stated "The world is awaiting our answer." before he rescued Luffy and sent him off for the Grand Line. He also referenced Roger's last words concerning the change of the world and how it could be brought about. Whatever his goal is concerning the fall of the World Government, he seems aware of what he and his family are capable of in terms of changing the world to suit them.
  • Blackbeard seemed to feel something right before Bellamy had his encounter with Luffy and was then able to recognize Luffy's ambition and perhaps his potential of being a "D". He also stated that he planned to shake the world to its core, and seems to carry a lot of stock in fate and dreams, two things that seem to resonate with whatever the "Will of D" is/represents.

The D. stands for Dream
With all the fuss that's made over following your dreams, and with that being one of the main themes of the series, it would make a lot of sense.

Shanks will be the last D revealed in the series.
Think about it, Shanks is the perfect fit for a D, he believes in dreams, doesn't fear death and is tough enough to be one of the four emperors. I think it would make perfect sense-in fact, I would be dissapointed it it turned out he wasn't.

Hiriluk was a D.
Think about it - he was a pirate, he died with a smile, and he mentioned "inherited will" to Dalton. A will that's inherited... you mean like Will of the D.? Granted, he's been irrelevant for most of the series, but Rayleigh shows that Oda isn't afraid to bring back characters from over a decade ago, or even make plot points out of non-issues.

Maybe a D
Some characters who might potentially carry the Will of D:

Hiruluk (Hililuk, Hiluluk, Hiriluk, etc)

  • He had single-minded determination to accomplish his goal.
  • Everything he does practically screams that he's not afraid of death, especially in the hours before he died.
  • He showed somewhat surprising combat ability for a doctor.
  • Kureha knows something (ominous) about the Will of D. She's also been friends with Hiruluk for years.

Roranoa Zoro

  • He's narcoleptic.
  • He's not afraid of death. In Little Garden, he even tried to strike a funny pose while dying.
  • He has single-minded determination to accomplish his goal.
  • He's buffoonish, but at the same time, very dangerous.

Shanks

  • Again, the "dangerous buffoon" criteria.
  • In flashbacks, young Shanks showed determination to be a great pirate. That seems to have paid off by now.
  • He's not particularly a Big Eater, but he is a big drinker.
  • We haven't seen anything hurt him to the point of near-death, but at the very least, he's not afraid of getting hurt and barely reacts to having his arm ripped off.
    • It's my personal Fanon that his name is Shanks D. Red.
      • What about Reh D. Shanks?

Kozuki Oden

  • Definitely a dangerous buffoon.
  • He's clearly determined to make Wano better for everyone.
  • During his childhood, he regularly ate people out of house and home.
  • At the end of his life, he died smiling.
    • It will be revealed sometime in the Wano Arc that Kozuki is a carrier of the Will of D., and because of Wano's isolation from the outside world, the inhabitants don't know the significance.

The D.'s are descended from the survivors of the Ancient Kingdom.
That's why the WG sees them as such a big threat.
  • Considering Corazon described the D.'s as the "natural enemies" of the World Nobles, you are 1000% percent on to something...

Everyone who has the will of D also has the conqueror Haki
Note that a)some of them (like Ace) might not realise it and b) the inverse is not true (you can have the conqueror haki without the will of D)
  • But Portgas D. Rouge or Jaguar D. Saul also having the Conqueror Haki is extremely unlikely.

Those with the will of D are descendents from the Ancient Kingdom
So according to Clover, during the void century there was supposedly an ancient kingdom that warred with what would later become the World Government. The Monkey Family, Saul, Roger, Rouge, etc are all descendents from the ancient kingdom. The D can ether stand for the country itself or an important figure from the country. Whitebeard also implies that it's one of these people who will find One Piece and challenge the world, which also fits with their tendency to do outrageous things. Naturally since Roger discovered the "True History" he also learned this was the meaning of the name.

The Will of D. is cursed
  • Think about all of those carrying the name D. Jaguar D. Saul, Gol D. Roger, Portgas D. Ace. All have been brave individuals, true enough, not afraid to face death with a smile. Sadly, they have faced death. And at a relitivly young age. Word of God is that the natural lifespan in One Piece is 130 years, and two of these men had been killed in their presumedly middle age era. Ace was even younger. The fact is that the Will of D. carries a curse, that all those who bare the name and the ideals will meet an early end. With so much rapid use of dangerous moves Cast from Hit Points and enduring a healing process that took away ten years of his natural life span, Luffy won't be far behind.
    • Luffy did indeed die when he fought Kaido. But his fruit restored him to life after activating Gear 5.
  • Is that a death flag for Law?

It is possible to lose or attain the D name
We would see others who had D names but probably unaware or hide it.

There will be character named Jeanne D Arc
Pretty please? We need more D female.

"D" is short for Devil, making them the natural enemies of the Celestial Dragons.
Given what Corazon said during manga 764, it's the natural enemy of God, the Devil. The closest thing we have to a God-analogue are the Celestial Dragons. Luffy punched Saint Chaiross, of the Celestial Dragons, in order to save Hachi and Camie. That's possibly why Donquixote despises those with the name of "D", since he still fancies himself as a person above all others, godlike-even.
  • Also, Luffy beat-up Eneru in the past, a person who fancied himself a god.

"D" is short for Devil, but more specifically...
The Devil of the Sea, which the devil fruits are said to be incarnations of... Perhaps during the Void Century, a man (or men) with incredible power (in fact, maybe he obtained the One Piece and it gave him that incredible power - that may be a stretch, but something would have to give powers in the first place / cause his powers to be contained in fruit for centuries afterward) tried to stop the World Government from taking over the world, and a massive war was fought, which saw the use of the 3 legendary weapons - Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus. The war and the entire century was removed from history and the man has been forgotten except in legend, but he survived to have children, to whom he passed his name (though his name probably wasn't Devil) and taught them to fight against Government oppression / the Celestial Dragons and to keep their name hidden so as not to be targeted.

"D" isn't short for Devil, it's short for Davy
The story of Davy Jones has been shown to exist in the One Piece world. Perhaps he really existed, and fought against the Celestial Dragons, but was then sent to the bottom of the sea by the world government, either by drowning him, or sending him to level 6 (or maybe even a super secret 7th floor) of Impel Down (assuming the prison even existed then).

Blackbeard isn't a real D
We know that he was trying to make a name for himself early in the series so he could become one of the Shichibukai and it has been noted that his behavior is atypical of those that bear the initial (begging for his life when faced with death). Blackbeard's real middle initial isn't D, he just heard that the initial was important and started using it to help build his reputation as a dangerous person.
  • It'd explain why Blackbeard shows fear of death unlike the others. If he is apart of SWORD, Kuzan joined the Blackbeard Pirates in order to discover if Blackbeard is a true D. Due to Roger explaining the Will of D during their last conversation, that's how Whitebeard knows and claims Blackbeard was not one of the people Roger was waiting for.

Eustass Kid is a D
Utterly fearless and impossible to intimidate, to the point where he's started shit with three separate Emperors? Check. Has an absolutely unbreakable will and incredible physical endurance and will not surrender or bow to anyone? Check. Ravenous appetite? Check. Made a huge name for himself and is poised for a serious shakeup of the world order? Check. Charisma? In spite of all of his violence, he seems to have a knack for attracting allies, and has a very loyal crew and a particularly devoted friend in Killer who he cares deeply about in return, so probably a check there. The only real absence is narcolepsy, but that isn't necessarily a hard-and-fast requirement, and he possesses Conqueror's Haki anyways, which itself isn't a requirement either but is shared with Luffy, Ace, and Roger, among others. It's not a coincidence that he is commonly placed with Luffy and Law - he has so many "D" traits that it is only a matter of time before he is also revealed to be one.

     Devil Fruits

Devil Fruits are named in honor of their price.
This is probably the most depressing idea to ever cross One Piece, but a random thought that occured to be after reading a One Piece/Bleach crossover, and no Devil Fruit user's were in the after life, all I could think was that they're all in hell. Because, if you eat a Devil Fruit, when you die, you go to hell...

Devil Fruit powers are caused by superpowered tapeworms
They live in the Devil Fruit, which are just what regular fruit looks like when the worms live in them, then crawl down your throat and into your stomach when you eat a bite of it.
  • How does that work with inanimate objects that were artificially given devil fruit powers like Spandam's elephant sword?
    • How can objects eat devil fruits in the first place if they don't possess stomachs for digestion? If you question one thing...
As Vegapunk supposedly knows what devil fruit really are, he has learnt how they came to be, and has managed to produce them, though not perfectly.
There are a few factors that have led me to this conclusion, the most obvious clue being the pacifistas having 'diluted' versions of the powers of kizaru's pika pika no mi.To me this suggests that Vegapunk has managed to manufacture pika pika no mi's, though the pacifista's are not able to use the power to the extent that kizaru can, so his 'man-made devil fruit' are not perfect.I then thought of Vegapunks other breakthrough in devil fruit research, bonding them to inanimate objects, and looked at the images of CP 9 as children, especially the one of Spandam, where he appears to have had a pet baby elephant, one that looks exactly like a young version of the elephant his 'sword' turns into due to being bonded with an elephant zoan.http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_44Spandam is head of CP 9, and so likely to know some of the world governments best kept secrets, such as the nature of Vegapunks experiments, and has been alive long enough to know him.I believe the image of the young CP 9 to be a subtle clue that Vegapunk can at least manufacture Zoan fruits, and uses actual animals, such as Spandam's pet Elephant Funkfreed, to create them. But again, either these man made fruit are not perfect, and can only be bonded to inanimate objects(including robots), or work perfectly but some people requested that they be bonded to weapons. All of this leads to another of my theories-
  • My apologies for the Wall of Text

    • Partially confirmed, until we meet Vegapunk directly: Vegapunk (and his former assistant Caesar Clown) can make artificial but imperfect Devil Fruits, but only the Zoan variety for now.

Devil fruits were made by capturing the essence or spirit of certain things and making them edible as so to purposely create supermen, in the case of zoans actual animals were either transformed or had their DNA used to create the fruit
As he knows the truth behind the creation of devil fruits, Vegapunk has managed to duplicate the process and 'grow his own fruit'.
  • And said process could possibly be an invention of the mysterious civilization of the Blank Century!
    • Absolutely, as we have been given no information as to whether the first fruit was found before the Void Century or not.

The Devil Fruits are called as such due to the suspicious nature of historical sailors.
In the past, Sailors have been known to be a superstitious lot. Some time in the past, someone ate a power-giving fruit, and got powers. Then he fell overboard, and after sinking like a stone, his comrades concluded that he was forsaken by the sea because of that fruit and that is was created by the Devil to send people to hell. Thus, the Devil Fruits got their names. (also, would the person that removed all the swears from this page please stop?)

Devil fruits do contain devils as rumors say and:
  • 1: The devils were an army that seized control of the world, and were defeated by a Noah-esqe flood.
Being defeated by the sea, the devils are weak to the same.

  • 2: As eternal punishment they were trapped in horrible fruits.
Beyond tasting terrible, the fruits were designed as horrible prisons for the devils to inhabit. eating a devil fruit allow the devil to escape into the eaters body, where it is free of the suffering of imprisonment in the fruit. The devils aren't able to exercise any will over the host, but automatically give their powers and weakness to the host.

Depending on whether the fruits float or not, the sea could be rejecting devils in fruit by purging them to the surface and allowing them to wash ashore and be removes from the sea, while devil hosts sink so that the devil can be re-imprisoned in a fruit.

  • 3: The devil in the yami-yami fruit was king of the devil army.
Being different from other logia, the devil king's authority allows it's host to have multiple devil fruit powers. Instead of the ordinary case of two devils fighting and causing the host to explode, the yami yami devil causes any other devils to submit.

Devil Fruit power isn't supernatural at all. It's from protists.
We've been thinking of Devil Fruits the wrong way. Devil Fruits aren't from Sea Devils or anything like that. Devil Fruits are actually embedded with parasitic protists. Think of it! "Paramecia" is Paremecium protists. "Zoan's" are Protozoa's, As for Logia... that one's harder to look for. Devil Fruits are actually the hosts for these organisms, and they give people the abilites. People can't swim beause the protsits are allergic to water or something along those lines.
  • ...this is brilliant. But, what does that mean for when the hosts die? Do the protists just gather back together and form a new fruit?
    • Maybe the Logias and Mythical Zoans are the supernatural ones.
      • Here's how it works: when the host eats the fruit, the fruit they are embedded in dissolves from the stomach acid, and that releases them, which takes an amoeba like form. It spreads throughout the host body, allowing for the abilities to be used. When the host dies, the protists secrete out of the skin and body orifices and look for a fruit to take root in. They change the appearance of the fruit (the swirls that separate them form other fruits), and they wait until someone comes along to eat it.

An explanation for the "animate" Zoan Devil Fruit weapons
When a weapon is being forged or created, the Zoan Devil Fruit is ground down into juice, and is either mixed with water or acts as the cooling agent, leading to the Devil Fruit's power being granted to the Weapon.

A theory about how the Yami Yami no Mi allows the user to have many Devil Fruit's powers
The Yami Yami no Mi have shown to grant a couple of abilities so far. First, control over gravity, second, some sort of pocket dimension inside his darkness which can absorb and release things from, and third, while in contact with a devil fruit user, the darkness "suck" the devil fruit's powers. Now, the latter one is a little ambiguous, it may just mean that if you're a devil fruit user and are in contact with the darkness you can't use your power, and if your body was an altered one the it reverts back to your original biology, or it could mean the darkness actually "suck" whatever magic Devil Fruits work on. If the latter is true, then you could get a Devil Fruit and absorb it inside the pocket dimension inside the darkness, where you'll be constantly "sucking" the devil fruit power. Ta-Daa, you have access to another devil fruit power and don't have to worry about exploding because you haven't eat the Devil Fruit.
  • Or else, in unknown conditions, the darkness can "suck" the devil fruit's powers permanently and the above applies (the part of not exploding because you haven't ate the Devil Fruit in question).
    • Word of God says it's got nothing to do with the Yami Yami no Mi itself, but because Blackbeard has a "unique" body type. Just what this means hasn't been expounded on yet.
    • Out of curiosity, what exactly did he say about it? From what I (not the original OP, by the by) have heard, it sounds like he could have meant that Blackbeard being able to have multiple Devil Fruits is due to his unique body type. In which case, the Yami Yami no Mi could still be what lets him take the powers in the first place.
    • The black sheet draped over Blackbeard and Whitebeard’s corpse allowed Blackbeard to assume his logia form by shielding him from his opposed element, light. When the Gura Gura ability left Whitebeard’s body, Blackbeard sucked it into himself. The absorbing power of Blackbeard’s logia form is what makes his body unique, and is why he considered the yami-yami fruit to be the “strongest”.

The Yomi Yomi no mi worked perfectly well
Brook said that he could not find the way back to his body because of the fog but who can say that the fruit was not supposed to let his body become a skeleton when he died? It gave him new powers, and he seems to function perfectly well, even without his organs. So the fruit gives you more power and lets you literally live a second life, since everyone you know will be either dead or old by the time you resurrect and you can make new friends and live in a world you are unfamiliar with (you know, just like a second life, a literal fresh beginning). It also makes sure that whatever killed you is far away by the time you revived. As for why Brook said that he could not resurrect because of the mist that made him unable to return to his body I have three theories. 1)He would not be able to find his way anyway but, due to his location, he passed it off as mist, 2) the fact that the place he died had mist was a coincidence, but as a soul he could only see the mists OF THE UNDERWORLD (come to think of it, considering the location he died, the similarity between the two mists may have been more than a coincidence), and 3) he lied because he did not remember anything, but his mind filled the voids anyway. As for why the fruit made him return before his hair was eradicated i have two theories: 1) it would not hurt his new abilities, so the fruit allowed his soul to return anyway, or 2) the fruit allows all his users to keep their hair (and it conserves them for all these years) so that they can retain a part of their past life.

The 'enlightenment' that comes with a human eating a model of the Hito Hito no Mi is instinctive use of Haki, or enhancing it to the point of mastery.
We already know one could became a Buddha statue.
  • Vegapunk perhaps?

The Mero Mero no Mi's power isn't what we think.
Rather than turning people to stone, it just amplifies lust. Turning to stone is something biological humans do when overcome with lust. This would explain the two times that Sanji turns to stone;
  • The first time, Hancock isn't directing her powers at him, he is just overcome by her beauty.
  • The second time, it happens when he is with the mermaids, and Hancock is nowhere near him.
  • I can't help but suspect that Hancocks power can be bounced off a mirror much like Foxy, the gag of Luffy mistaking her power with the noro noro beam was foreshadowing.

Only Smiles can be fed to objects.
  • Every Devil Fruit shown to be ingested by an object thus far has been a Zoan-type. While Paramecia and Logia powers would be more difficult to write if non-living objets had them, they should exist, statistically speaking. Since none have been seen to exist, it must be that natural Devil Fruits cannot be ingested by non-sentient objects but Smiles, which are only Zoans, can do so. The filler writers seem to believe this too, as Shuzo's cannon can morph into an alpaca much the way Lassoo and Funkfreed could morph into a dachshund and an elephant respectively.
  • Jossed from the get-go; Funkfreed and Lassoo's Devil Fruits are natural, and were introduced LONG before the concept of Smiles was a thing. Only Zoan fruit have been seen "eaten" by objects anyway, whether natural or man-made.

You do not die by eating multiple Devil Fruits.
Rather, you can accumulate Devil Fruit powers by simply eating another one. The only ones who knows this are Blackbeard and his crew. He managed to gain the Quake-Quake powers from Whitebeard by keeping a small fruit on his person and showing up to land the finishing blow on him—the fruit then became the Quake-Quake Fruit, Blackbeard ate it underneath the covers, and he gained the powers.
  • Jossed. The topic of consuming two Devil Fruits by the same person comes up in Volume 40 Chapter 385 (p. 2-3) and Episode 271, and Blueno states explicitly that the Grand Line scientists have studied the idea; up until Blackbeard, everyone it was tried on died horribly.

The Kage Kage no Mi is the opposite of the Yomi Yomi no Mi.

Raftel is somehow the source of all Devil Fruits
  • It would make sense, as all the answers to One Piece mysteries seem to be on Raftel. Also, the mystery of where devil fruits come from has yet to be solved.

Following the above WMG, One Piece is the tree that all devil fruit come from
  • Devil fruit are powerful, and being able to get devil fruit at will would unbalance the world, as anyone could have the power.

The practice of giving Devil Fruit powers to inanimate objects is actually simple
Just smear them with the fruit's juice, and the weapon will inherit the power. This comes from how, in the scene of Kaku and Kalifa eating their Devil Fruits on screen, they used utensils specifically made of Seastone, which is immune to the fruits' powers. If they were normal ones, those utensils will get the power instead of the two.

When the Slip-Slip Fruit is Awakened
The eater could temporarily spread its slipperiness effect to another person, causing them to undergo the same "all fat slides off their body" change that consuming the fruit causes. This would be very profitable for the eater, as they could easily charge for their services in making fat people skinny.

The Yami-Yami no Mi's darkness is related to Armament Haki
Which is why it can nullify Devil Fruit powers.

Awakened Logia Fruit would allow for external element manipulation, similar to an Awakened Paramecium
Whilst Logia Devil Fruit allow their users to produce an endless amount of elemental matter, and shape what they are producing whilst it's in contact with their body, once the two are separated, it becomes inert. The most logical effect of an Awakened Logia would be to manipulate and control elements that exist outside of the user's body, rather than needing direct contact. For example, if Crocodile were to Awaken his Sand-Sand Fruit, he would be able to make all the sand around him do whatever he pleases... and also to employ his desiccation abilities just by looking at people, rather than needing to touch them.

The Devil Fruits are some kind Alien fruit
One Piece already has lore with space and have people that orginated from the moon. So what if the Devil Fruits came from space or at the very least came from an Alien tree that is currently on the One Piece's Earth.

Basically When someone eats a devil fruit and swallow it some kind of bacteria or virus within the fruit mutates them into having these powers, while the virus in the eaten fruit begins to turn the fruit rotten once someone takes a bite. This would explain why it only takes one bite to gain the powers of a devil fruit.

Not only that but if someone tries to eat another devil fruit, both viruses would likely be too much for the body to handle which would eventually lead to it exploding.

When a user with a Devil Fruit Power dies their bodies disperse small fast spores that are too small and too fast to see with the naked eye. These tiny spores also have some kind of hive mind going on, which will eventually cause them to go to look for their specific fruit. Sure with smiley it happened instantly, but that was only because the apple was near it, so we don't really know what happens when the specific fruit is far away from when the user dies.

I'll admit it, my theory is a bit far fetched, but I think you get the basic idea

The Devil Fruits are symbiotes.
Similar to the Marvel symbiotes. The fruit shape is just their embryonic, or egg state, but when consumed, they bond to their host, and grant them the special ability it is linked to. They also have a hive mind aspect, that bonds it to only one host at a time. This is why Masked Deuce didn't get the same flame powers when he ate half of the same fruit with Ace. The symbiote bonded to Ace first, and through it's hive mind shut down the remaining half. Upon death, they separate from the host, and using what shared energy that remained from the symbiosis, return to the fruit/egg state, and go dormant to await the next host to bond with. This would explain why Blackbeard was able to take Whitebeard's power, and Doflamingo, was able to get a new version of Ace's fruit later. He got someone to extract it from Ace's remains.

There's going to be an artificial Mythical Zoan.
Think about it, there's the Minks who can use electricity, Mermaids with fish telepathy, Transponder Snail can do electromagnetism mind powers, the Dails are said to be made from paticular shellfish remains, Lunarians can use fire, Fishman and Mermaids can manipulate water.

Hell, with Kin'emon, some can already do this. That, and there's the Iron Cloud and Pop Greens.

At some point, some scientist is probably going to make use of this and just fuck shit up.

  • Confirmed - The Fish-Fish Fruit: Model Azure Dragon that Momonosuke ate was a synthetic replica of Kaido's, created by Dr. Vegapunk.

The Dark Dark Fruit is actually a mythical zoan like the Gum Gum Fruit
.This is why it doesn't have any traits in common with other logias, such as lacking the ability to make the user intangible, and has the ability to nullify other devil fruits, something that isn't really covered under "Gravity". Smart money is it's the Evil Counterpart to the Human Human Fruit, Model: Nika, perhaps turning the user into the One Piece World's Moon God, or God of Death.

Devil Fruit Awakenings
Here's a list of possible awakenings of devil fruit users.I only did a few of them so anyone can add their own creative ideas and suggestions on the blank ones. I only include the canon devil fruits so feel free to add the non-canon ones and their potenial awakenings.

His trump card is to use an advanced form of his invisibility, becoming completely undetectable by the sight, hearing, smell, touch, preternatural perception or Observation Haki. The less a Zoan user actually knows about the animal their fruit represents, the more powerful they'll be.

If you're well-versed in what the animal can do, that would set logical limits to the fruit's potential. But if you don't know anything about it, its only limits will be what you imagine the animal should be capable of doing. This would nicely explain how so many Zoan users can make their animal forms do completely ridiculous things.

     Polyglyphs and Ancient Weapons

The Thousand Sunny is a replica Ancient Weapon.
Franky had those blueprints for years. Think he doesn't remember every single detail? Also, what was an utterly invincible superweapon eight hundred years ago might not be so terrifying relative to modern technology.
  • Wouldn't that invalidate his entire motivation from the Enies Lobby arc? And Iceberg would have never helped build it if that was the case.

Pluton is hidden on Sniper Island.
  • Jossed. It's hidden inside Wano Country.

We have already seen the ancient weapon Pluton
After the bombshell of 649 that Shirahoshi is Poseidon, it doesn't seam unreasonable to think Pluton may also be a Person of Mass Destruction rather than an actual weapon or battleship. So we may have already been introduced to him or her, just by a different name. Personally, I suspect two candidates.
  • The first is Pell. His survival of that huge bomb could be a Chekhov's Gun indicating his Plutonic powers.
    • Somewhat improbable given the reveal of Haki, Pell may have awakened enough Armament Haki to survive a bomb. Given that most conflicts involving Haki usually boil down to using Haki against it. It would be safe to say that surviving a mere bomb would be easy stuff.
  • Second is Brooke. Or perhaps I should say Brooke's Devil Fruit. In ancient Greek and Roman mythology, Pluto/Hades was lord of the underworld. But the underworld wasn't a place of brimstone and fire like most modern interpretations of "Hell." Instead it was viewed as a cold, dark, damp place devoid of mirth. And we've recently learned that Brooke's Devil Fruit lets him channel the "chill of the afterlife" in his attacks. Thus it's possible Brooke became the Pluton when he ate the YomiYomi.
  • While the revelation about Poseidon does put Pluton in a new perspective, this troper would remind the original that Pluton had blueprints and was explicitly said to have been built by Water 7. If we want to look at alternatives to Pluton being a powerful warship (no comment on whether it had a Klabautermann that was more than just a spirit...), why not consider a cyborg? That way, it would both be requiring of blueprints and be a "living" being. So to put that into an easy to digest sound byte, Third, Pluton was a cyborg a la Franky or the Pacifistas. After all... Franky did have those blueprints on hand for all those years... (which would tie this in nicely with the WMG about him using the blueprints.
    • With what we know about Poseidon now, I think it is possible that the Ancient Weapons are not separate weapons, but are different pieces to a single weapon, and that there are more than just the two that have been spoken about.
    • *facepalms* I forgot all about Franky and the blueprints. Thanks for reminding me. Though given how Oda rarely picks the most obvious answer, I wouldn't rule out the other two just yet.
    • Actually, Iceberg had the blueprints but gave them to Franky after his return.
    • If they are different pieces to a single weapon, what would it be? We have a battleship, and the ability to command Sea Kings to pull things... That fits already.
  • I would like to offer the theory that Pluton (or perhaps Uranus) is in fact the creature seen at the end of the Thriller Bark arc; the one responsible for all the ships dissappearing before Moriah showed up.
  • If there is another living weapon it will be Uranus, as Pluton was revealed to be a ship.
  • But the sea kings are meant to pull Noah so in a way Poseidon is a battle ship too. Probably all three are actually something that gives an associated ship some kind of unique or special power.
  • We already know that artificial Devil fruits can be made in the form of Smiles. How sure are we Franky's blueprints weren't just instructions for making Brook's fruit? And the fruit Brook ate was the one originally made all those years ago by the people who put together the instructions in the first place.

The Ancient Weapon Zeus is a Devil Fruit
But it is 'not' the Gura Gura No Mi, but the Weather Weather Devil Fruit. It would fit with the theme that we have seen with Ancient Weapons so far. While Pluton is a battleship made by Human hands, and Poseidon is a mermaid princess able to control the Sea Kings, then it would make sense that Zeus, the God of the Sky in Greek Mythology, would be a power that controls the weather. What better way to symbolize such power than have it be a Devil Fruit. Who is the current wielder of the Ancient Weapon: Zeus? Monkey D. Dragon.
  • Well, the name has been jossed. The third weapon is called Uranus instead of Zeus.
    • While the name is off, Uranus being god of the sky in mythology would tie with the idea of the weapon being a Weather Weather fruit.
  • Unlikely considering that we now know that the Gum-Gum Fruit is the WG's most feared Devil Fruit. They didn't mention it being one of the Ancient Weapons, and if the most powerful Devil Fruit out there isn't an Ancient Weapon, then surely no Devil Fruit is.

An idea regarding the three Ancient Weapons
As of chapter 650, it's confirmed there are three weapons: Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus. All seem to be named for Greek or Roman deities. In mythology, Poseidon and Hades (aka Pluto) were brothers and their father was Uranus. And because he feared a prophecy that a son would overthrow him, Uranus ended up eating his children until Zeus stopped him. Thus it seems possible that Pluton and Poseidon are of somewhat-equal power, while Uranus turns out to be the most powerful. Or perhaps have some ability that enables control over the other two.
  • Uranus wasn't Hades and Poseidon's father, he was their grandfather. Kronos ate them. Other than that, Uranus was the embodiment of the sky, like Gaia was the embodiment of the earth and Tartarus the embodiment of darkness. They were different than gods or titans. Perhaps that might be the significance. A logia of the sky rather than the weather or the air would have amazing power. THE ATMOSPHERE IS NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED!

The Straw Hats will have "control" of all three superweapons
Of course this ties in with the batch of WMG's saying "Shirahoshi will become a Straw Hat," though even if she doesn't, she'd still be closely aligned with them, placing Poseidon at their disposal should they ever truly need it. Franky likely retains some memory of Pluton while Robin can read the poneglyphs that detail its construction, so this leaves only Uranus unaccounted for, which could very likely fall into their orbit. It would fit with the theme of the Straw Hats becoming continually more dangerous to world peace (not because they are pirates, but because Robin is the survivor of Ohara or Luffy is the son of the revolutionary) and amp it up to eleven.
  • A funny point that oddly has never been adressed in the series since Alabasta,(funny when one considers the entire water seven arc) and hasnt really been talked about that much IRL, something i only noticed when rewatching the Alabasta arc.
Nico Robin knows precicely where the real Pluton is. After she reads the ponyglyth to Crocodile and pretends its just history data, Nefertiti Cobra asks her why she lied, and says that the ponyglyth mentions nothing but the Pluton and where it is. Now obviously she didnt mention it because she didnt want Crocodile to have it, but she still has that knowledge. This makes the entire Cp 9 arc Hilarious in Hindsight for me, as Spanda spent the entire time trying to acquire the Pluton blueprints from Franky, all the while having Robin in custody who already knew where the original pluton was anyway.

Uranus Pluto or the one piece is a time machine

or/and

Uranus is the one piece

Going by the above Uranus is also a princess
A princess who will bond with the straw hats, but she will actually join the crew

The Uranos Weapon is actually the devil fruit
The Uranos is named after a sky-god and what do we know that's totally negated by the ocean?

The Ancient Weapon Pluton is actually the Maxim.
A ship that can fly into space, with technologically advanced mechanism that left Ussop baffled? Pretty suspicious already, but that's not all! We know that Gol D. Roger went to Skypea and we know that he can read the poneglyphs. To get the Log Pose pointing to Skypiea, it means Roger had to spend time in Alabasta, where the poneglyph about Pluton is. My theory is that Roger got the Blueprint from Alabasta, then Enel/his mentor somehow became aware of them while Roger was in Skypiea (maybe through his Mantra/Observation Haki). Then in Water 7, Roger gave the blueprint to Tom as payment for making his boat or just for safe keeping. How does that sound?
  • Jossed. Whatever kind of warship Pluton is, it's hidden in Wano.

The World Government already has Uranus
Of the Ancient Weapons, Poseidon (that is, Shirahoshi) is firmly in Luffy's camp, and Pluton is lost forever. If the Government were to attain Uranus, we'd have an excellent even playing field for the final battle.

We have already seen Pluton
The Florian Triangle monster in chapter 490 is Pluton. Think about it: Pluton is said to have been built on Water Seven. Where do we see the florian monster? Right after they've departed from W7. Also, looking back at the panel where we see the monster, there's gogogo sounds coming from it; the soundeffect of a creaking ship! The text also implies that it's ancient — "a mystery since long before" — so that fits too. And if it was built to be a weapon, that explains it's aggressiveness. All the other monsters — seakings, kraken — have all at some point shown feelings, and they're not that bad deep down. Florian though, he wrecks 100 ships a year leaving no suvivors ever. But if everyone aboard it died and forgot to turn it off kill-mode, well that makes more sense. We've been assuming that the ancient weapons were broken or something, but it makes more sense if they were just lost. It wouldn't be that impressive a weapon if it could be destroyed just like that.
  • The main idea of the audience already having seen Pluton is still up in the air, but the details are jossed. Pluton is hidden in Wano country.

Dragon found Uranus
That's how he controls the sky and the real reason why the world government is so desperate to unearth an ancient weapon of their own.

The Tenryūbito has the Rio Poneglyph
In chapter 761, Law asks why Doflamingo still has as much pull with the government as he does, since Doflamingo was no longer a Tenryūbito. Doflamingo says he knew about an important national treasure whose existence alone would shake the world to it's core, so he had them by the balls. I think it is the Rio Poneglyph Robin is looking for. These Tenryūbito are treated like living gods in a world where guys like Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger exists. No one opposed them before Fisher Tiger as far as we know, so any "important national treasure" of theirs will be something BIG like that. We haven't gotten all the details, but I don't think it's an ancient weapon, because it would've been used by the WG by now. The Ope Ope no Mi also seems to be involved in some way, maybe to implant knowlege from mind to mind. Law's flasback isn't done either, and we might get more hints as to what it is, but I'm not holding my breath for that one. Might explain why the World Government and the Tenryūbito see D's as "Danger" or "Devil", because the D's are mad enough to say fuck it, and do something big.

The Celestial Dragons owned an ancient weapon
I can't be the only one seeing the similarity between Dofla and Croc. In this case, it could only be Uranus.
  • Gol D. Roger stole it and renamed it One Piece. Doflamingo knows this and threatened to humiliate the Government by revealing that they lost it.

Dragon is an ancient weapon
  • Since we know that ancient weapons can be in living form, and Dragon is described as one of the most dangerous people in the world, who knows. Dragon is powerful and we don't know that much about him.

Uranus is the Kill Sat
  • So, Pluto can sink islands, while Poseidon commands Sea Kings. Thematically, that means Uranus is something related to skies. Ym is the only one who can currently control it (or at least could), and uses this fact to be worshipped as a living god by the Five. Also, that big straw hat is integral part of the process, and Roger started to wear his after learning the truth, to mock and intimidate the ones in the know.
    • This would also fall in line with how Lulusia Kingdom was annihilated in Chapter 1060, which would also tie in with the earlier theory of the World Government already controlling it.

Pluton is Noah
  • That's why it's so important. And initially all Ancient Weapons were used as a set.

Pluton isn't actually hidden in Wano
  • Rather, Pluton is Wano. The entire island is the ancient weapon. Hence why when looking at the Pluton blueprints, Franky found it so unbelievable that humans could build such a thing.
  • Jossed. Sukiyaki revealed Pluton is hidden deep underwater in Wano, and that opening the country is necessary to get it out. Besides, there wouldn't be a point to keep its blueprints if Pluton couldn't be replicated.

The three ancient weapons almost destroyed the world
  • So far the information about both known ancient weapons shows they were real WMDs, Pluton could destroy an island with a "single shot" according to Crocodile and Poseidon's ability to command sea kings is said to be able to sink islands. This troper thinks that the reason the world of One Piece is all islands and small countries with a larger water-to-land ratio than Earth is because the three ancient weapons sunk most of the land during the void century, after all why would they be described as being able to destroy or sink massive areas of land in legends if that weren't based on actual events from the void century?
    • As of the Egghead arc, we have the aftereffects of the replicated Mother Flame actually leading to a worldwide rising of the sea level; the Sea Sinkhole left behind by it where once Lulusia was looking an awful lot like the one at Enies Lobby and the narration stating that there was no equal in recorded history also point in that direction.

     Haki
Haki is the secret to eternal youth.
So far everybody we've seen with haki seems absurdly young looking. Garp, who's been traveling the seas fighting for decades, looks almost exactly the same as when he was talking with Gol D. Roger in the flashback. The only difference is the hair color. The same applies to Rayleigh Silvers, who looks the same except, once again, for his hair. I'd be willing to bet that Shakky is imbued with haki and that's why she looks exactly the same. Anyone with haki can, however, choose to age if they wish.
  • Except that people live to be about 140 in the One Piece world. We saw a doctor (Kureha) in Chopper's arc who was 139 (!) and looked pretty young. (Okay, she looked like a crone, but she had ligt blond (or gray) hair and a body that just won't quit.)

Conqueror's Haki has applications beyond what we've seen
Because, let's face it, as cool as it is to be able to knock people out just by looking at them it doesn't exactly make for an exciting fight scene. For Conqueror's Haki to be of any importance in a Shonen battle series setting it needs to be able to do something cool, crazy, and completely over the top. Potential applications include:
  • Focusing the 'knockout energy' into a Kamehame Hadoken.
  • Sending the energy directly into the opponents body through physical blows.
    • Which would effectively turn Gomu-Gomu no Gatling into Gomu-Gomu no Hokuto Shinken.
  • A solid Battle Aura which serves as an extension to Luffy's own body, increasing the range of his attacks even further than before.
  • A Super Mode incorporating one or more of the above ideas. Possible titles include 'Gear Fourth' or *finger's crossed* 'Pirate King Mode'.
    • Even thought it's not been confirmed that he has King's Haki, I always thought Zoro's Asura would be some form of this.
    • Jossed for Gear Fourth: it's a refined combination of Armament Haki and Luffy's rubber powers, but doesn't seem to use Conqueror's Haki in any way.
  • Conqueror's Haki is required for Awakening Devil's Fruit. Conqueror's Haki was described as projecting the user's will on the people nearby. Awakening is described to be something similar, that is, projecting the devil's fruit powers on the user's surroundings. The two people shown to have used Awakening (as of Whole Cake Island arc) have Conqueror's Haki, and Luffy will obviously learn Awakening at some point.
    • Jossed. Law has awakened his Devil Fruit and there has been no indication that he has Conqueror's Haki.

Haki and Devil Fruit powers are similar and/or connected.
There's already a WMG that Haki allows for the use of DF powers one does not have, but it's barely scratched the surface. Yes, Zoro can grow extra limbs- but what about, say, Sanji's emotional powers? He can burst into flames or turn to stone, and not just for effect- noticeably, both of those are actual Devil Fruit powers, and Sanji's mimicry of them affects the plot. Perhaps Haki brings out the true potential of a person's powers, and Devil Fruit are actually pure Haki in fruit form that allow for the transfer of powers from one person to another.

The next level of Haki
The most interesting thing that I find about Haki is that its different uses are described as colors. Not only that, but there are three primary colors to Haki. If you take that metaphor an run with it, then the next level of Haki, and by proxy the next step in Luffy's development, will be learning how to "mix" different colors of Haki to produce new and different effects.

When two people with Conqueror's Haki face off, it's always a Big Deal.
Before chapter 716, it's only reliably happened once on-screen: with Shanks and Whitebeard. In both cases, the clash resulted in visible air ripples and other cool shit. Perhaps there are also larger, legitimate ramifications of such battles and their outcomes? Surely in the case of Shanks and Whitebeard fighting, the consequences ended up being pretty dire: Whitebeard appears to have won, and went on to rescue Ace, and we all know how that ended.

Haki isn't all equal, and its potency can change
Not even speaking about the three different colors, there's a variety of power within the same variety of Haki. That's how Vergo was able to be defeated by Law and Akainu could Logia-through Marco's kicks. Even though Vergo and Marco have trained Haki, their ambition is less than that of Law and Akainu, respectively. It's not just the increased abundance of Busoshaku Haki users in the New World that makes Logia's less than invincible, it's the fact that being Logia's makes them complacent and decreases their ambition and makes them vulnerable to people who have stronger Haki than their's (if they have it at all). Despite his many flaws, Akainu has incredible conviction and holds a worldview so different and alien to the madcap insanity of the One Piece world that he has greater ambition than Marco. Also, both men whose Haki was overwhelmed were subordinates, Marco to Whitebeard and Vergo to Doflamingo. Somebody content with working for another obviously possesses less Haki than somebody who works for themselves (and Akainu's crusade has shaped how the Navy works, not vice versa). That's how Whitebeard was able to hurt him where Marco wasn't, Whitebeard is at the top of the Haki ladder. That's also how Akainu was able to beat Aokiji, Akainu's Haki was stronger. But on the some corollary once you finally achieve your ambition your Haki rapidly disappears (hence why Mihawk can't hurt Buggy, he's already the best, there's nothing left for him to do). Gold Roger didn't just quit because he was sick, he turned himself in because he lost his Haki after he became Pirate King, but Whitebeard, whose goals weren't reachable (being a good parent is a job that never ends) was able to keep his Haki to the very end. What does this mean? Now that Akainu has become Fleet Admiral, his Haki has increased even more so, making the only people who could even think about hurting him Luffy and Shanks.
  • Whoa, Wall of Text. Keep it shorter for us in the future, ok? But yes! You're right. Some people's Haki can overwhelm others' due to their stronger spirit and mastery of the techniques, especially Armament Haki. However, note that there's probably plenty of people with strong enough Haki to fight Akainu.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if one of them is Garp, after all he did say flat out that he was going to "murder" that Sakazuki and it certainly looked like he was going to give it a good go. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried again if given an opportunity when Sengoku isn't there. I mean look at the lengths two members of the D. family went to avenge a friend (fatally in one case) while the others revenge took over a decade for him to complete.

"The voice of all things" is a fourth form of Haki, near unknown due to its rarity.
It feels like a sort of a Haki thing to do, having much to do with a person's willpower and spirit. But at the same time, it's entirely distinct from the other three colors. Not much to say about it, really.

Two Conqueror's Haki users can combine their Haki to dramatically increase its power or range.

The clash of two users' Conqueror's Haki is always shown to be a big deal causing massive shockwaves which blow away or knock out people in the vicinity. If instead of using the Conqueror's Haki against each other, if the two users combine their Haki, you can expect the outcome to be completely off the charts. As of Chapter 1010, it is confirmed that Roronoa Zoro can use Conqueror's Haki (even though he says he didn't realize it). As the crew will fight much more difficult battles in future arcs, two crew members combining their Conqueror's Haki is a viable powerup on the table.
