Pre-Race Lift Max has African ancestry.
Max is either black or mixed (this picture
◊ makes Max seem so), because:- In the Story Interlude where it's revealed that Larry is black and youthful, Max said that he wanted to look "that good" when he's Larry's age, as in he wants to look as good as Larry.
- In the same Interlude, Larry suddenly mentions that there were changes of treatment to African Americans compared to his youth, pointing out that today there are a lot of opportunities for African Americans for radio. Max being black and involved in the radio would make sense for Larry to start a conversation about black people and the radio.
- Max says that he had a best friend whom he considers his brother. Knowing that he's from Portland, a city with a population that's almost all white, it's no surprise that two people with the same skin color would bond and refer to themselves as brothers. Not to mention that said best friend moved away early in his age. This can be caused by racism.
