When the Matt shows up in Chapter 32, he is described as an ordinary-looking college guy who writes magic words in the sky that effect the plot. The Matt is a trickster who claims to be "moving the fate" of Flavia's universe and knows everything about her, even claiming to have created her specifically to bring "great chaos" but also "great joy." He claims to have been asleep for some time (corresponding to the long hiatus between this and the previous chapter) and wants Flavia to fix the apocalypse so he can "go on to other things." The incident sounds suspiciously like the author (possibly actually named Matt) admitting that he wrote a Troll Fic when he was younger, but wants to finish the story so he can move on with his life.
And she hasn't changed. At all.
