Go To

The human world and Domain are in a Stable Time Loop.
The two worlds run parallel to each other. So when the birds discover time machines and go back in time to avert their Crapsack World, so do the humans of the future to avoid their Crapsack World. And the worlds in the past they go to are actually each other's worlds. So in what was formerly Domain, humans started to populate the earth, and in what was formerly the human world, animals start to populate the earth. We've already seen what caused the human world to go crapsack and the birds to find the time machine in canon. What caused Domain to go to hell was the emergence of naturally born humans in Domain. Those two, or some descendants of theirs, will be the ones to find the time machine and go back in time.

In other words...

Francis and Lindesfarne's future child(ren) are the Adam and Eve of the human race
  • Jossed. Lindesfarne's first child is a bat.
    • So far. Remember, Francis wasn't human for some time after he was born. Turvy could still get/be a surprise herself.

When Ray used the intelligence ray on himself, he kept some of the intelligence he gained
Although it can be explained with Characterization Marches On, Ray started out as a ditz who couldn't identify his natural enemies. While he realized that being as much of a genius as he was would potentially attract Lindesfarne to him, he decided against making himself as stupid as Pat Buchanan. After reverting back, he doesn't have any brilliant moments, but he doesn't do anything especially stupid, either, and seems more insightful about certain aspects of himself (like the changing nature of his relationship with Tammy).

The former human world is 'Earth-That-Was' from Firefly.

Think about it. The folks from the Firefly 'verse left the world when it was too polluted to sustain their numbers. What did the birds say their former world was like, and what happened to their humans? (Note: this isn't Domain's planet, but the original bird homeworld.)

The Bird's plan was doomed from the start

There's no reason why intelligent animals would be better than humans. Real animals regularly destroy their environments when population control factors (predators, competitors, parasites) disappear.

In a portal imbalance, humans actually gain instincts.

To be more precise, they take on animal instincts not of their own. This leads to an uprise in the furry fandom. After all, all those lost instincts have to go somewhere.

More humans will come to Domain.

This troper thinks that Holbrook will introduce more humans at some point...and hopefully we'll see the first human villains in this comic.

  • Catherine Aura's twitter reveals that they're considering this concept, and also allowing disillusioned Domain citizens to cross over to the human world in exchange. It remains to be seen if any humans are just minor mentions or will become actual characters, given how Catherine is a Hero of Another Story.

Rudy's portrayal of humans was more accurate than it appeared.
Life is extremely adaptable, and while humans created tons of evolution and might even be the next meteor if we create a landscape of nothing but nuclear waste and Styrofoam, life will adapt to feed off of nuclear waste and garbage. If humans actually destroyed the world, it would have had to be partly intentional.

There will be overpopulation of rabbits in the future
Since Kell is married to Kevin and is now the CEO of Herd Thiners, Herd Thinners employees no longer hunt rabbits in fear of getting fired. This will lead to overpopulation of rabbits in the future and Kell will need to step down so that predators can hunt rabbits without fear, thus returning them to stable numbers.
  • Jossed in the sense that Kell is no longer CEO of Herd Thinners, but given that the Rabbit Council is funding her rival company, still a valid WMG.

Francis is a Were of some kind

He'll eventually gain the ability to shift into one or both of his parents' species.

Bill Hollbrook made Lindesfarne a human princess for one reason...

To keep people from speculating that her human counterpart was Samantha Argus.

  • Which is for the best, because it's easy to suggest that Rudy is Dave Hamper's counterpart, so that'd make it a bit weird.
  • Sooooooo, coming back to this topic....does anyone besides me think Samantha and Dave's daughter Maria looks like a young human Lindesfarne?

Kell's ouster as Herd Thinners CEO has a point:

So that Kell and the HT staff that quit with her can create their own competing company, re-filling the niche markets that RL will have presumably abandoned.

  • Confirmed!

The plotline about how the SATs are biased toward the math and reading oriented will come back.
After all, Rudy still has to take them.
  • Jossed. Rudy's now in college and that topic never came up.

The species will merge.
Inter-species reproduction has become the norm instead of the exception. In the long term, most animals will be mutt omnivores. They may evolve into humans.

Crosses between carnivores and herbivores inherit their mother's diets
Probably has something to do with what nutrients they got during gestation. And there is a bit of a pattern:
  • Coney: Rabbit dad, wolf mom, vicious predator.
  • Corrie: Wolf dad, sheep mom, grazer.
  • Francis: Fennec dad, formerly human mother, omnivore.

Danielle has killer rabbit DNA from her mother and/or father.
Danielle's thoughts about not wanting to sink to the predators level could be translated as making the choice to be a herbivore instead of there simply being no other option, and what happened with her at herd thinners is pretty similar to how her gate counterpart catches her prey, could this have been when she made her decision. Her gate counterpart is a capable hunter despite the fact she probably never hunted in her life.

  • Made redundant by her Doppelgänger, since being formerly human, she retained her taste for meat.

Why isn't Lindesfarne having human children?
When Francis Fennec was revealed to be human, Lindesfarne was pretty much resigned to the idea that she and Fenton would have human children as well. A now-deleted blog entry in her Fourth-Wall Mail Slot blog stated as much. However, an early ultrasound during her 2017 pregnancy revealed her first child was certainly physically going to be a bat.

While this could possibly be a simple Retcon, that would make Francis's existence in the K&K world even more jarring. There are plenty of potential reasons for why Lindesfarne can bear animal offspring, and Danielle had a human child.

One is that Lindesfarne has simply been on this side of the portal long enough that her DNA has fully stabilized, making bearing human children impossible.

Another is that Lindesfarne went through puberty while on this side of the portal. She came across as a baby, after all. Her development on this side of the portal could have bearing on what kind of offspring she can produce.

  • Let's not forget that Lindesfarne's child turning human later (as Francis did) isn't off the table.
    • At this point, it's unlikely. As of 2022, Turvy is beyond the point when Francis shed his fur and became human. Also, prior to becoming human, Francis was non-descript of form, far more than any other hybrid children in the comic, which usually have a variable mix of clearly-discernable features from both parents. Turvy's species is very clear.

Turvy will indeed spontaneously turn human later, and the storyline will be a metaphor for someone getting a life changing disability
After all, she'd lose the ability to fly.

End result of the 2022 "Herd Thinners loses its employees" storyline
Kell will wind up buying out Herd Thinners, and Dewclaw's Fine Meats will take over as the dominant predation corporation.
  • Thus far, mildly confirmed. DFM got a 10% stake in Herd Thinners in exchange for a temporary loan of its employees as temps. But it remains to be seen where it goes from there between the reliance on bats, and how carnivore taste for HT's bug-based fake meat develops.

Angstrom Flambeau has died and been replaced over the course of the comic.
Angstrom Flambeau, the hybrid child of firefly Ray Flambeau and moth Tammy Tussock, was originally born in 2002, between Coney and Francis. Nominally, he should be in Coney's cohort of friends. But subsequent appearances of him took away his moth wings. And in 2022, he appeared among Turvy's cohort of friends. It's possible that Angstrom may have died and been replaced by another child—possibly multiple times. It could be one of the things that bug species simply have to deal with in the K&K world.

The return of Vin Vulpin
When Rudy and Fiona do finally tie the knot, Vin will either return from the Wild to attend the wedding with his mate and step-kits (and either return to the Wild afterward or stay on as a supporting character again), or at least get shown being informed about it as a way of proving that Rudy's never forgotten about him and thinks he should know about the latest happenings in the family.
