- Given the headmaster is Phineas Nigellus Black and a Rookwood is present, that's at least two ancestors.
- With the addition of Deputy Headmistress Matilda Weasley, all we are missing is a Malfoy and the prediction will be 100% on the money.
- There is at least a Gaunt, so that's (presumably) one of Voldemort's ancestors.
Since the rebellious goblin in the trailer was using wandless magic only, and Griphook in Deathly Hallows seems particularly bitter about wizards guarding the secrets of wand making from them, perhaps part of the goblins' plan is to steal wand lore from wizards so that they can take over.
They say he is starting Hogwarts late as a fifth-year student but does seem to be unusually good at magic, as well as detective work. This is further punctuated in the gameplay trailer as the character is in a carriage with Professor Figg and what looks to be a government official, possibly someone from the Ministry of Magic, and was chosen for the task because of their youthful appearance.
- That explains why there are no romance options, a young-looking adult flirting with a teenager would look bad.
- Jossed - The PC is simply a late-starting student.
In the State of Play trailer it's stated that the Player Character will be solving ancient puzzles supposedly created by Merlin and can control ancient magic no one else (apparently) can; given their late start as a wizard it can be assumed they were most likely Muggle-born and/or orphaned before they knew they were a wizard, so no one knows that they are a descendant of Merlin until later in the game (or it's being concealed from them.) The Dark Wizards are either led by a descendant or Morgana Le Fay or following her example, setting them up to clash with the player regardless of the player's moral stance in the game.
- The protagonist's backstory is never alluded to other than them being a late bloomer who didn't develop their magical ability until they were a fifth-year. Merlin is only mentioned as being a long-ago student of Hogwarts who created many Trials for his fellow wizards. The leader of the Dark Wizards is actually a descendant of a Greater-Scope Hero among a few whose enchanted portraits help the protagonist. The last name of the Greater-Scope Villain, Isidora Morganach, evokes Morgan le Fay, however.
With Avada Kedavra already confirmed in the trailer the Player will see Cruciatus and Imperius in action and gain the option to use them in combat and dialogue. The Cruciatus can both stun and damage opponents in battle and "convince" uncooperative characters in speech checks, while the Imperius can temporarily turn someone to your side in a fight or "program" someone to perform actions for you later on. Besides the risk of turning Dark there's also the chance that the Curses might not work if you try them on strong-willed individuals and using them too much will result in a Bad Ending.
- Jossed - The Curses never come up in dialogue and don't affect the ending. Enemies sometimes comment on the usage of them, and if the game is modded to allow using spells within Hogwarts, if they are used in front of a professor, they will have unique dialogue.
- Jossed - the game simply goes for a Last-Second Ending Choice, House Cup results and/or proficiency in the Dark Arts notwithstanding.
Yes, this can all be written off as, "Well, we didn't want players to start off as pre-teens with first-year spells, we wanted the players to fill in the blanks for themselves, and we needed an excuse for exposition (and also it's just a video game)," and it also doesn't explain why the other Ancient Magic users we know also started as fifth-years, not to mention how the PC can read and write; but it would explain the option to start play with a huge facial scar, and the basic familiarity with common enchanted objects and simple wand-work beyond "Professor Fig caught you up on the basics": They've seen it, they've just never used it.
- I mean, come on, a Wizarding World game like this set between Tournaments? They're bound to bend the canon a bit to justify it.
- Jossed - Avalanche have confirmed there are no plans for DLC.
- Not completely Jossed. There was another dev who tweeted with that article saying that they were looking to get the releases out to the last gen and Switch versions of the game (to get the game out to everyone). 'No current plans for DLC' probably means 'we are looking to iron out the bugs and get all releases out for everyone before we start working on a DLC'. It's way too soon to be announcing a DLC at this time, it hasn't been even a month yet (as of writing this). Check back after July after the Switch version releases before we say any hard 'no's.
knowing that in less than thirty years the Gaunt family is reduced to only three members it would only make Sense for Marvolo and ominis to be siblings. Ominis not been interested in the dark arts might also played a role in Marvolo not allowing his children to attend hogwarts as he might belive that it corrupted his brother away from their pure blooded supremacy beliefs.
