The Dog's name is Diogenes
The company which owns the rights to Footrot Flats (which I presume was founded by and is owned by Murray Ball, the cartoonist) is Diogenes Designs. "Diogenes" contains "Dog" within the first 4 letters, and it sounds like something Aunt Dolly would name a dog, and The Dog would object to. The Dog is named after a member of British Royalty
