• Self-Adaptation: The feature film Footrot Flats: The Dog's Tale was directed by the strip's creator, Murray Ball. He also co-wrote the screenplay.
• Tribute to Fido: Horse was based on a real cat who hung around the author's farm.
• Write Who You Know: Cooch was also apparently based on two people Murray Ball knew.
