Danny Archer had HIV. note
Danny's motive for finding the blood diamond is so that he could possibly pay for his treatment (maybe even find a cure). Evidence to support this:
- Near the beginning, Danny is approached by a prostitute who says "No HIV" and Danny responds "Yeah, I've heard that before".
- It could be the reason that Danny keeps his romantic distance from Maddy.
- Also, after he had been shot, he hesitated to have Solomon carry him, because he would come in contact with his blood.
