WMG / Black Adam (2022)

Go To

     Pre-Release
The Justice Society are the main antagonists of the movie.
  • As Hero Antagonists against Black Adam’s Unscrupulous anti-hero protagonist.
    • Defied; the Society and Adam initially clash, but the main threat is Sabbac, and the Society come to a truce with Adam.

Black Adam and Hawkman met in the past
  • Tying in with Hawkman being the reincarnation of the Egyptian prince Khufu. Since Adam has it in for the ruling class, this could make their enmity a lot stronger.

There will be some flashbacks of Black Adam’s backstory
Since he used to be one champion that was chosen by the Council of Wizards before the events of Shazam, we will likely be given flashbacks of his backstory of him as a champion.

Villains that might appear in Black Adam
Since Black Adam is going to be the main titular Villain Protagonist of the film, they are likely some possibilities of any of the villains appearing in the film.
  • Mr. Mind
  • The Frost King
  • Four Horsemen Of Apokolips
  • Granny Goodness
  • Felix Faust
  • Vandal Savage
  • Seven Deadly Enemies Of Man
  • Eclipso

Superman will appear in Black Adam
  • Well, since Superman is one of Black Adam’s enemies, that would make more sense for him to likely appear in the film, given that he did make a cameo at the end of SHAZAM! (2019).
    • Confirmed; he appears in the stinger

The Stinger will tie into either Shazam: Fury of the Gods or Shazam 3

Adrianna is Hawkgirl.
Hawkman is in the movie so it would make sense for her to be there. They're founding members of the Justice Societyof America and they were both connected to Adam in the past in the comics. Would also pave the way for Vandal Savage to be in the movie as well.

Bruno Mannheim will be the film's Big Bad.
One of the actors stated that Intergang (The organization the Bruno leads in the comics), along with Peacemaker (2022) stating that Intergang has taken over Kahndaq, it is likely that he will be one of the film's main antagonists.

The JSA has more members who are merely busy elsewhere.
  • There is speculation an upcoming Hourman movie may tie in with this project, and with all the recognition that Stargirl (2020) is getting, name-dropping Courtney and S.T.R.I.P.E. has potential.
    • Adding onto this, Hawkgirl was originally planned to appear, but there were problems behind the scenes that prevented it. Maybe Hawkman could mention that he has a wife/lover with the same powers as him after learning of Adam's wife.

Dr. Fate's wife will be seen or mentioned to add a domestic element to his character.
  • Pierce Brosnan feels like an actor who could do a lot with that.

Someone will tell Adam his costume makes him look like a wrestler.

King Kull will appear in the past
  • The trailer shows Teth-Adam being wounded by a half-naked barbarian wearing a horned helmet.

SABBAC won't be Ishmael
  • It will be Amon Tomaz. The red shirt with the 5-pointed star is some pretty on-the-nose foreshadowing, which is in line with the kids from SHAZAM all wearing their signature colours. Also, turning into a supervillain neatly clicks with his character arc in the comics.
    • The SDCC trailer features Adam telling someone his powers aren't a blessing but a curse, coupled with shots of Amon running for his life and Adrianna with tears in her eyes. Put those all togehter and it seems like Amon isn't going to settle for being a helpless bystander.
  • Jossed. Ishmael is SABBAC in this film.

Black Adam will see Amon like a son.
  • Drawn to him since he still feels the loss of his son and it helps that Amon’s mother is Black Adam’s wife in the comics.

The Atom will either appear or be mentioned
Both he and Albert Rothstein will be subject to Adaptational Sexuality and either be and have been in a relationship.

  • Jossed on that last one. He's Albert's uncle.
  • Confirmed actually as he was the previous one.

Actor Allusions for Dr. Fate
Because you can't bring in Pierce Brosnan and NOT have a gag about his most famous role.
  • When saving someone Black Adam was about to kill, he'll say that person will have to Die Another Day.
  • He'll be convinced that Black Adam will eventually attempt universal conquest — because The World Is Not Enough for men as power-mad and ambitious as him.
  • He'll warn his fellow heroes about how ruthless Adam is, saying that if he has A View to a Kill, he'll take it.
  • Either someone will refer to him as a Spectre due to his magic powers, or he'll use that word for someone else.
  • He'll reprimand Adam for his use of excessive force, saying that noble goals don't give heroes a Licence to Kill.
  • When using his magic to heal a critically injured ally, he'll say "This is No Time to Die."
  • He'll say something about someone having The Living Daylights scared out of them.
  • He'll compare witnessing the destruction Adam will bring to watching the Sky Fall.
  • He'll refer to an electricity-based attack as a Thunder Ball.
  • If he witnesses something he thought was impossible, he'll acknowledge that he was wrong and swear to Never Say Never Again.
  • An admirer will tell him that, when it comes to being a hero, nobody does it better.
  • Black Adam will defend his pro-killing stance and tell Dr. Fate that he'll just have to Live and Let Die.

While his name isn't among the Demon Lords and Archdevils who empower SABBAC, he's still Hell's head honcho. Granted, a Lucifer Morningstar has already been introduced in a live-action DC adaptation in 2022.
  • Jossed.

Black Adam will reveal that his rampage isnt actually about revenge...
... IT'S ABOUT DRIVE, IT'S ABOUT POWER, WE STAY HUNGRY WE DEVOUR, PUT IN THE WORK, PUT IN THE HOURS AND TAKE WHAT'S OURS!

     Post-Release
The Seven Sins were involved in Adam's fall from grace
  • In SHAZAM! (2019) the Wizard said that Black Adam was corrupted by the Seven Deadly Sins and then turned on his people, but the film only states that Adam attacked the palace after his son was killed after transferring his powers to his father. However, it's possible that there was a greater time gap between the death of Adam's son and the attack on the palace, which could allow for Adam to confront and release the Sins before he was imprisoned by the wizards.

Hawkman originally was a JSA member in a previous lifetime
  • While the movie doesn't mention Hawkman's Reincarnation ability, Word of God says that it very much exists in this continuity as well. So perhaps, when Carter is referring to his history with the JSA, he's referring to things that happened in his previous life? It would make sense chronologically. We don't know exactly when the JSA was founded or when its heyday was, relative to the present. But Al Pratt, the original Atom Smasher, is in his seventies (according to the tie-in comics) so we're potentially looking at the JSA having been around 30-40 years ago, if not further back. Dr. Fate too is a man who appears to in his seventies (but is in fact well over a century old). In stark contrast, Hawkman seems to be in his thirties or forties at most (the actor, Aldis Hodge, is currently 36). Given the seeming age gap, it does make sense that Hawkman was a member of the team 30-40 (or even 50) years ago in his previous life. He died at some point, and was reincarnated and his current incarnation is now reforming the team.

Potential past members of the JSA in this continuity
  • We know that Hawkman, Dr. Fate and the original Atom-Smasher were members of the JSA during their heyday (whenever it was). Other heroes who could possibly have been part of the team include:
    • Green Lantern Alan Scott - The Green Lantern Corps already exists in this universe and even fought a battle on earth once millennia ago. So it's not impossible that some of their energy could have been left behind in the Starheart meteor that would eventually be the source for Alan's lantern and ring. Given that the Starheart keeps Alan young, he too could be Really 700 Years Old like Dr. Fate and have been a member of the JSA decades ago, as well as potentially return to the new present-day iteration.
    • Dr. Mid-Nite - One of the more low-key JSA members, so he could easily have existed in the past, potentially paving the way for his successor to join the present-day team.
    • Hourman - Another member with a fairly 'realistic' power set that wouldn't draw *too* much attention. Rex Tyler could have been the original, with Rick potentially taking over the mantle for the present-day.
    • Starman - Its not impossible that there could be a whole legacy of Starmen in this continuity (possibly setting the stage for Stargirl to join in the present).
    • Black Canary Dinah Drake - We know that Dinah Laurel Lance's mother was the previous Black Canary and operated as a vigilante in Gotham. If some iteration of the JSA was around in the 90's, it's possible she was a member. Which again, paves the way for her daughter to join the team in the present, as in the comics.
    • Wildcat - Ted Grant's a fairly 'realistic' character who could easily have existed as Wildcat without drawing too much attention. It's possible he worked with the original Black Canary, and trained Batman, as in the comics.
    • Wonder Woman - Diana has secretly been active as Wonder Woman since the First World War, so it's not impossible she worked with the JSA at some point. It's not as though she explicitly states that the League was the first team she worked with in Man's World.
    • Batman - A bit of a stretch, but Batman has also been around a while in this continuity, so if the JSA was active in the 90's, it's possible he worked with them - maybe as part of his training (especially if Wildcat was his mentor). In the tie-in comics, Al Pratt mentions that he didn't really know Batman, which suggests that he might have been acquainted with him, or at least wasn't a complete stranger to him.

The Helmet of Fate will find a new wearer in the future
With the unfortunate demise of Kent Nelson, the helmet vanished from Hawkman's hands because it was going off to find a new host to become the new Doctor Fate. That host will turn out to be Khalid Nassour, who could either get his own spin-off series like Peacemaker did, or appear in a Black Adam sequel or a Justice Society film.
  • There was actually a post-credits scene implying someone would've become the new Doctor Fate, but it was cut from the film. In additon, many people like Johnson and Brosnan stated that we may not have seen the last of Kent Nelson.

The reason Dr. Fate was first called "Kent".
It was done with the intention to bait viewers into thinking Superman would be working with the Justice Society during the movie.

     Sequel Theories
Adrianna becomes Isis in the sequel
  • Adrianna being able to awaken Adam has to be more than just a random woman doing it. Her talk of her pendant being a family heirloom from ancient times is also clearly a setup for the sequel when Adrianna will unlock the power of Isis (who may be called differently) to become a champion and Adam's Love Interest.

Black Adam will make a cameo in the stinger of Shazam: Fury of The Gods
He'll meet with Shazam/Billy on having a talk with him and be invited like how it happened with Superman.

Possible Villains of Black Adam Sequel
Since a sequel is currently in the works of developement, there are likely possibilites of who will be in Black Adam.

  • Doctor Sivana
  • Mr. Mind

    • Since the Shazam movie ended with a potential team up between the two villains, they'll try to steal eternium, prompting Billy to go to Kahndaq and meet Black Adam. As Adam is no stranger to kids gaining adult forms, he'll quickly realize Shazam is a kid without needing to witness a transformation.

The sequel will be a crossover with Masters of the Universe.
After losing control over Kahndaq, Intergang will make a portal to Eternia to look for another source of eternium. Or Skeletor could learn there's eternium on Earth. As an allusion to a crossover, the heroic warriors might suspect Batman of being a Horde member. The Stinger will feature Hordak.

Black Adam will return in Shazam 3
Since he wasn’t given a chance to appear in the second film of Shazam: Fury of The Gods, it is highly likely that he’ll return in Shazam 3 as a new companion/ally to The New Champions.
