An inversion of the standard game formula.

Wife Quest is a Retraux-style platform game developed and published by Pippin Games and released on September 20, 2021 for Steam and Nintendo Switch.

The main objective of the game is simple: You're Mia, and you must rescue your husband Fernando who's been snatched in his sleep by Morganna the dark elf. During your quest you'll run into Morganna's companions, the Monster Girls, who want nothing more than to keep Fernando captive.

Needs Wiki Magic.

Wife Quest provides examples of the following tropes:

  • A-Cup Angst: One of the things that really bugs Mia is that the bosses like to rub it in that they're much curvier than her.
  • Achievement System: Visible in the Extras menu of the Start Screen.
  • Action Girl: Mia plays the role of the hero in the game.
  • Animesque: Pippin Games is a Brazilian developer specialized in making games imitating the style of cute Japanese anime and games.
  • Backtracking: An absolute necessity if you want to collect everything, since you'll need abilities gained from defeating bosses in later levels.
  • The Battle Didn't Count: It's possible to defeat Morganna at the end of the Grasslands (and there's even an achievement for it), but she'll still blast Mia into unconsciousness and run off with Fernando anyway.
  • Blush Sticker: Ymir is the only major character to have it.
  • Boss Rush: Before the final confrontation with Morganna at the end of her castle, Mia has to beat all the bosses again. The game is saved every time you defeat one. After beating Morganna you have to fight them all at once including her, thankfully they have a quite short lifebar this time.
  • Character Customization: Mia can get new skins and new outfits in Magic Mode.
  • Character Tics: Mia tends to tug at her twintails whenever she's angry and has her hands free.
  • Chick Magnet: All of the Monster Girls want Fernando and them trying to pick him up is practically a daily occurrence. Despite all that, he remains wholly faithful to Mia.
  • Concept Art Gallery: Basically full portraits of the characters instead of sprites, Gotten mainly through each of Ymir's three challenges for each stage, being to collect everything in it, complete under a certain time, and to kill all enemies.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Most of the game's bosses, namely Morganna and her Monster Girls, are conventionally attractive women. They all have Pointy Ears.
  • Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: The only penalty for dying is getting sent back to the start of the screen or the most-recent checkpoint, complete with full heal.
  • Distressed Dude: Fernando is kidnapped by one monster girl after another, and Mia is on a quest to save him.
  • Fiery Salamander: Sily, the Salamander is a reptilian monster girl who lives in the Hellcano.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: As you can see in the page image, the game title is spelled with Japanese characters on the title screen, to give an impression of it being a Japanese production. There are no other instances of it.
  • Heart Container: Purchased from Ymir's shop.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: That's Mia's weapon.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The first fight against Morganna at the end of the Grasslands is effectively unwinnable outside of playing in Magic Mode or having godlike dodging skills to avoid all of her blasts. The game expects the player to lose as there's an achievement for it.
  • Improbably Female Cast: Fernando is the only male character in the entire game.
  • The Joys of Torturing Mooks: After defeating Monster Girls, Mia can perform a finisher to "punish" them. The finisher animations are treated as collectibles. There are achievements for doing it to every enemy in the game.
  • Lethal Lava Land: The Hellcano. It's full of lava pits Mia has to avoid, and some of the enemies will fling drops of lava at her.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: The magic shield that Mia finds near the end of Area 1 protects her from damage and reflects Monster Girl attacks and projectiles back at them, provided she still has mana.
  • Missed Him by That Much: By the time Mia defeats a boss, Fernando has already been taken away by another Monster Girl.
  • Ms. Fanservice: The Monster Girls have a rather 'generous' design, especially with large busts.
  • Newbie Immunity: You are generally expected to lose the first fight against Morganna at the end of the first stage, the Grasslands, unless you have excellent dodging skills or are playing in Magic Mode, as you will earn an achievement if you lose and the game continues as normal.
  • New Game Plus: Beating the game unlocks Magic Mode, where you have access to all abilities from the beginning and an unlimited amount of mana. Useful for completing Ymir's challenges.
  • Nice Guy: Fernando doesn't want anyone getting hurt and repeatedly politely declines all of the Monster Girls' advances. The problem for him is none of them are willing to take "No" for an answer.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: As if Mia doesn't have enough to get angry about, none of the Monster Girls have any problem with invading Fernando's personal space.
  • Not Quite Flight: Mia gets wings (that she rips off Tania's back) that let her glide.
  • Oni: Red is a giant female Oni who is also a drunkard and is also one of the monster girls who test Mia's patience.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: The only one we see, Ymir, appears to be human-height, at least.
  • Our Elves Are Different: Only one elf type is seen, and they fire three arrows in rapid succession before needing to rest.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: They appear to be a One-Gender Race of female Winged Humanoids that can perform magic, and the queen can regrow her wings. Probably. They also come in different wing styles. The artbook depicts the two types of regular fairies. One with wings like four flower petals and antenna, and the two bat wings type with horns and a spade tail.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: As Ymir informs Mia, the Deep Caves has Were-bats. The Artbook just calls them "Bats" though. Still Cute Monster Girls.
  • Pig Man: The orc girls seen in the intro and in some of the levels are a Little Bit Beastly version of this.
  • Potty Emergency: While Mia is invading Morganna's castle during the final area, Fernando is hopelessly lost within trying to find a bathroom.
  • Plant Person: The Mandrake Cute Monster Girls, with grass growing from their head and possibly also a red or purple flower.
  • Playing with Fire: Red the Drunk Oni has an attack where she spits a fireball. Given that she's a heavy drinker, it's clearly supposed to be a Booze Flamethrower.
  • Product Placement: Some framed pictures in Morganna's castle have Pippin Games' logo on them.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: When Mia isn't beating the crap out of any of the Monster Girls hitting on Fernando, the two of them are very lovey-dovey with each other.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Frozen Plains, an ice-themed world with platforms you can slide on.
  • Snake People: The Lamiae, horned human woman top, snake tail bottom. The bustier purple-haired ones, in comparison to the flat-chested, green-haired ones, are also more durable by one Hit Point and don't suffer Knock Back. We assume it's the extra cushioning...
  • Stalker Shrine: Morganna's entire castle is one to Fernando as there are nude statues of him in nearly every hallway.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Fria is a masochist of the highest degree and eagerly anticipates the punishment that Mia prepares to dish out against her after defeating her. This also applies during her boss fight as she her attacks can be interrupted so she can enjoy the pain that Mia's sword is dishing out against her.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers: After defeating a boss, Mia will take something that belongs to them so she can use it herself.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Wife, in this case. Mia brutally dispatches Monster Girls to rescue her husband.
  • Winter Royal Lady: Fria appears to be this at first but soon reveals herself as a shameless pervert and masochistic weirdo. During the end credits she even flashes Fernando, with her nipples covered by snowflakes!
  • World of Buxom: Every boss and about half of the enemies have a quite sizable bust that is often seen bouncing.
