Escape a haunted guesthouse, as paranormal events and spirits hunt you!

Werthit is a 2022 Survival Horror game by Dave Microwaves Games.

Mr. Werth lost a bet, and is required to spend the night in the old Hide residence, a Japanese Guesthouse with a very bleak history. It's soon apparent it's infested with various hostile spooks, and even the house itself is out to get Mr. Werth! Forgoing the bet, he decides to bail.

  • Ambiguously Evil: Exactly how the Host orders the family is never shown, and while Omi's diary suggests it's somewhat of a Demonic Possession on otherwise good people, Goro has dialogue in the Bad Ending suggesting he is conscious of what he is doing, and refers to the Host as though the latter is his boss or leader.
  • Apocalyptic Log: Omi's diary can be found in the house, revealing how a failed ritual of hers is what lead to the unleashing of all the monsters.
  • Battleaxe Nurse: Miwa wears a nurse's cap and gown, and also hunts Mr. Werth on sight.
  • Cosmetic Award: Unlocking an ending will cause one of the family to appear in the background of the title screen. They don't do anything.
  • Faux Affably Evil: The Host is surprisingly cordial, writing Mr. Werth friendly letters and being forgiving of him attempting to escape the house. He also sends Goro to hunt down Mr. Werth and kills the latter at the end of the night should he succeed.
  • Golden Ending: The Good Ending serves as one, with Mr. Werth managing to both escape and free all the victims from the house and the Host, possibly including the family themselves.
  • Justified Extra Lives: Mr. Werth has several chances to escape, because he's an early riser who recovers from being knocked out quickly, and the ritual takes several hours for the family to complete.
  • Harder Than Hard: Beating any of the three standard difficulties unlocks Nightmare difficulty, in which Goro never leaves and the house is repainted in dark, ashen colour as though burned, reducing visibility.
  • Haunted House: The game takes place in the old Hide residence, a Japanese guesthouse swarming with phantoms.
  • Hollywood Fire: A line of thick fire blocks the foyer of the home. Strangely, it never spreads, and Mr. Werth is incapable of running through or jumping over despite it being a thin line.
  • Human Jack-O-Lantern: Goro uses his own severed head as one, which gives off an ominous purple glow.
  • Living Shadow: Numerous shadow people can be seen throughout the house, implied to be former victims of the family.
  • Losing Your Head: Goro's head is detached, but he's fine and even uses it as a lantern.
  • Multiple Endings: There are three endings to the game:
    • Normal Ending, unlocked by escaping the house - Mr. Werth escapes and runs off.
    • Good Ending, unlocked by cleansing the ritual room and then escaping the house - Mr. Werth escapes and runs off, while the spirits in the house are freed to move on.
    • Bad Ending, unlocked by getting caught too many times - Mr. Werth is caught and sacrificed to the Host by the family.
  • No Full Name Given: The player character is repeatedly called "Mr. Werth", but his first name is never stated.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Omi tried to perform a ritual to telepathically communicate with her boyfriend. Her diary reveals on its last page that the ritual went horribly wrong, not only failing but also summoning something, with the player never learning exactly what the first monster was or what it did.
  • Poltergeist: The Host's possession extends even to the house itself, with things regularly falling over or breaking when Mr. Werth passes them. Rarely, a larger object like a shelf or pillar will even fall on Mr. Werth and temporarily stun him.
  • Schmuck Bait: The end of Omi's diary, left in plain sight, has a note from the Host at the end of it scolding Mr. Werth for reading a personal journal without permission.
  • The Unfought: Despite being the Big Bad, the Host is never encountered or even seen.
  • Unseen Evil: The Host is the one controlling the house, leaving Mr. Werth letters, and commanding the family. Despite his nature as the Big Bad, he's never seen.
